Big thanks to Purdue university for putting on a killer race weekend!(4/6-7) Sat and Sunday had its ups and downs. Thomas won the cat 4/5 crit, coming in overall 4th in the c field. One of our guys crashed and broke his collarbone, we hope he heals up quick! On Sunday 3 mavs teammates won the TTT in the b category : Ben, Will, LJ . My last fight camp I was in preparation to fight for the number #1 Welterweight spot in Australia. Unfortunately close to the end of the camp I sustained a bad shoulder injury. After the injury I got extremely sick & found out I had a terrible stomach parasite which may have attributed to the injury and kept me on the side lines for close to two years. From all negative situations there are positives that come from it & in this case a silver lining. The time away gave me the opportunity to start @wanderer_promotions a boxing promotion company hosting grassroots fight nights. The goal is to help young fighters develop & chase their dreams. I am very proud of how far it has come in such a small amount of time. Last night we hosted another successful event with some great fights! I am very grateful for all those who participate in the shows whether it’s the fighters & gyms, the officials, my team that helps organise it & of course the supporters. It couldn’t happen with out you guys! So THANK YOU! When I got into coaching I asked myself this question: what can I bring to the table that isn’t already out there? My lessons from the Arena that is Professional Cycling. That’s what I bring. Plenty of coaches understand the science and the “theory” behind training, but the ability to apply it to the real world, to learn what makes an athlete tick mentally and physically and to build a training plan accordingly is where the magic lies. Every situation, emotion, or challenge that my athletes encounter I have lived through thanks to my time in sport. Money can buy a lot of things but it cannot buy the experiences I had as one of the top cyclists in the world, and now I get to share all I learned with athletes under the Talansky Performance Group banner as well as with the Tower 26 Triathlon community. The lessons I learned were not in a classroom, they were out on the roads of the Tour de France and the Vuelta Espana (or in the case of this photo a frigid edition of Paris Nice) and those lessons cemented my belief that the mental side of training is at least as important as the physical. While it’s a given with all my athletes that the physical work will get done, I work 1-1 with each of them to make sure they have the mental tools to succeed on race day as well. The Detroit Mavericks have signed Benjamin Bae from Ann Arbor, MI. Since starting cycling in 2020, the South Korean has continued onwards and is still improving. His lightweight profile makes him a deadly climber and puncher. Racing mostly road, he is dipping his toes in other disciplines such as gravel and cyclocross. His plan is to continue growing stronger to become the lightweight monster.
