Since prior to us moving in, the small paddock next to our house has always been overgrown and unused 🕸🕷 We have always thought it would make a great calf paddock as it’s reasonably small, has secure 10 wire fencing along the road and boundary, and netting along the side of our house. So mondays mission is clearing it out! Lincoln will take any excuse to go on his digger! 🚜 So watch this space, hopefully by calving we will have a new purpose built calf paddock!

We cut out butterflies from tissue paper & stuck them together with a paper clip in between, then tied thread to the paper clip & attached it to the table! Gio then used the magnet to help it float! The Science A magnet is like a super strong, invisible helper that attracts certain things or pushes them away. Imagine, it has two ends: one end is North Pole and the other is South Pole. Magnets work when you put two different poles together, i.e. North Pole and South Pole they attract. R I S I N G W A T E R We continued to celebrate British Science Week, by doing another experiment, this was called ’Rising Water’! We placed some coloured water in our tray & put a candle in the middle. We then lit the candle & placed a glass bottle over the top of the candle. After we observed what happened! The Science: The flame extinguished while under the glass because it used up all of the oxygen as it burnt. While burning, the candle heats up the air inside the glass. As the air heats up, it increases the air pressure inside the glass (compared to outside the glass). When the candle goes out, the air inside the glass cools down and the air pressure inside the glass lowers. In order to balance the air pressure between the inside and outside of the glass, air wants to get inside the glass (where the air pressure is lower). As it tries to push air into the glass, it pushes the water inside (since water is covering the opening of the glass). W A T E R R E F R A C T I O N To celebrate British Science Week, we explored different simple experiments, this experiment was ‘Water Refraction’! I drew & coloured a rainbow which I placed in a sandwich bag, then I outlined the rainbow on the bag! After we slowly lowered the bag into the water and watched the colours disappear! The Science: Refraction happens when light changes direction or bends when it moves from one material to another. Light travelling through air changes direction when it hits water.
