☘️ Do you know the tale of St. Brigid's Day? 🕈 Today marks St. Brigid's Day, one of Ireland's three national saints. She has held a place in Irish homes for centuries, as a tradition, on the 1st of February, St. Brigid's crosses would be made from rushes, barley straw, and occasionally twigs. The tradition originally began when St. Brigid visited the bedside of a dying man. In Irish homes centuries ago, rushes were often used to cover the floor. While she talked to him about Christianity, she began weaving the rushes in the form of a cross. The man who had held no faith before, converted to Christianity before he parted. From this time on, St Brigid's crosses were made and often hung above doorways, as a sign of good fortune. They were also believed to protect the building from fire. St. Brigid was from Kildare, where a fragment of her remains was recently returned. Following her death, she was buried in her native Kildare, however, legend has it that Irish knights transported her skull to Portugal where it was held as a shrine in a church in Luminar. Her body was also reburied alongside St. Patrick in Down Cathedral under a large rock close to the entrance of the cathedral. Fator Brasil: Primeiro é importante ressaltar que Loups-Garoux foi escrito pelo famoso Marc Platt, conhecido pela sua marca registrada de complexidade em seus roteiros, entregando conceitos, tramas confusas, complexas e alusões no sub texto as vezes chamadas de enigmáticas como é o caso de “Ghost Light” arco do 7° Doutor. Enfim, não posso afirmar quem foi o verdadeiro responsável pelo o estudo e coleta de informações da localização do enredo que no caso, é o Brasil claro – Independente disso devo dizer que foram cometidas inúmeras gafes bem patéticas que entregam uma desinformação e uma clara falta de conhecimento do país bem patética, como por exemplo: o áudio dizer que a cidade do Rio de Janeiro fica no estado do AMAZONAS e também que uma parte da Floresta Amazônica se encontra em território carioca. Além disso os brasileiros falam portunhol, possuem nomes comuns espanhóis como “Ileana”, “Rosa”, “Anton”, “Victor” e quando falam em Inglês tem um fortíssimo sotaque espanhol. Claro que não podia faltar o Carnaval no áudio que por sinal é até bem representado, o único deslize está na forma como retrata as pessoas presentes na festa como sujeitos que só repetem a palavra “Samba! Samba!” ou formam frases com “Samba!”. Enredo: Como disse anteriormente mais acima, Marc Platt é conhecido pelas suas tramas complexas e confusas geralmente escondendo alusões e interpretações por trás delas ou nos seus elementos presentes em suas histórias. BIG FINISH REVIEW NOTA: 5/10 – REGULAR! • Phantasmagora (Main Range) – 5° Doctor . . Phantasmagora é a segunda Main Range produzida pela BIG FINISH escrita por Mark Gatiss, conhecido por ter um gosto bem peculiar em suas histórias geralmente flertando com um humor pastelão. O Áudio sofre de dois grandes problemas, o primeiro e talvez mais notável está em seu enredo podendo intitula-lo com a expressão “água com açúcar”. Não há nada de instigante, diferenciado e muito menos ousado – E o segundo problema é a péssima falta de organização em sua estrutura inicial, a parte 1 descreve perfeitamente esse equivoco com vários personagens, situações e elementos sendo apresentados em um curto período de tempo facilmente causando confusão em seu ouvinte. Peter Davison empenha bem o papel de 5° Doutor mesmo em alguns momentos parecendo estar voltando a se adaptar ao seu personagem, Mark Strickson manda muito bem na performance porem seu personagem fica longe de ser notável, a não ser pelas burradas que comete perto do fim. A última parte do áudio é a mais lucida e medonha, ela coloca as coisas nos trilhos e conclui bem a aventura – O medonho fica por parte do vilão Valentine, basicamente um tirano perturbado que escapou de sua execução e busca vingança usando os jogos de cartas para identificar pessoas de mentes brilhantes, ele as sequestra para tortura-las antes de usar a consciência delas para consertar sua nave que foi danificada ao cair na Terra. O medonho e bizarro é que o meio de tortura de Valentine é remover toda a pele de suas vítimas, deixando o que ele chama de Casca...eeerr que horror, credo 🤮...Sem dizer que Valentine tem um casarão com várias pessoas nesse estado gritando de dor, de fato é perturbador ouvir esses trechos. 📍 When travelling to Doolin, some visitors may pass by The Geosite of Carron Polje and Turlough. The Turlogh or disappearing lake is the most obvious part of the Polje. After significant rainfall the bottom of the valley fills with water to form a lake. The only outlet to drain the water is through a small natural karst fissure in the limestone at the southern margin of the lake. This can get blocked by mud or other debris and drains slowly. If there is no significant rainfall the water will drain and the lake will disappear only to fill again after more rain. During dry periods the lake floor is grazed by cattle! Sights from the grounds of the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life located in Turlough village. The last 2 images are of the Turlough Abbey and Round Tower on a hillside surrounded by a graveyard. The Turlough Abbey is an ancient monastery believed to have been founded in 441 AD by Saint Patrick. The Round Tower was added in the 9th century.
Resurrection of the Daleks (2019) Eric Saward — A favourite of mine, probably more than received-fan-wisdom would have it. I didn’t enjoy as much as the other Saward adaptations, which have surprised throughout this read through the range. His style works well to introduce and deepen the world of the story, really fleshing out the Vipod Mor. Like Revelation, this modern novelisation has a different tone, Saward is more expressive and loose, deviating from the plot to give asides and changing up the typesetting at time. All this combines for an engaging read. At its core this really is a nasty story, with a lot of nasty violence. The plot is very unforgiving to its characters, with many meeting with untimely ends which paints the whole idea of conflict and war as futile. This is heightened by the way in which Saward lets us in to the character’s worlds, the novel is littered with varied and interesting people who develop beyond their on screen versions. When each is eventually killed we feel their unfulfillment closely. It really justifies Tegan’s departure and feeling that her travels aren’t fun anymore, but we get an interesting and slightly surprising epilogue of Tegan, newly empowered, setting off on new adventures. The Dalek’s intriguingly have a touch of humanity about them, with names and ranks and a degree of bitterness towards one another, the defears of the Movellan Wars seem to have stretched these Daleks to desperation, hence seeking out their creator. The plot gets itself tangled slightly, the thread of the Doctor-duplicate infiltrating Gallifrey goes nowhere and seems totally disjointed from the Davros-virus line.
