@thewhitehillspub 🍴 Impromptu Sunday lunch at the Whitehills today. Walked in without booking and luckily managed to get a table. They offer beef, chicken, gammon and pork options with all the trimmings. I had the chicken and Rob went for the gammon. Portions were really generous as you can see. We got extra roasties and wowww👀 they were lush.. proper crispy and not just the token 1-2 extra either! Honestly couldn't fault it, all for a very reasonable price. So glad this place is back open and serving food. Crowned the best takeaway fish and chips in the country🥇. The huge portion of cod was coated in a thin layer of well seasoned batter that was very well fried - nice and crunchy! The fish was thick and succulent and tasted very fresh. Another plus point is that they only use sustainably caught fish! 🐟🐟 The chips were thick cut, perfectly seasoned and really to my liking! Slightly crispy on the outside ◡̈ . Great friendly crew at the shack definitely made the experience even better 🙃 We left with happy bellies!

Open and refurbed since December, if you like a village/country pub that's giving elevated, gastropub vibes then this is absolutely the place for you! The decor is lush for one..... Secondly, the food is baaaaanging 🙌🏻 All local produce (Big up Gower Butchers) lovingly cooked by owner Ryan and his team, we ordered the following - 🍤 Prawns wrapped in a katsu curried batter, served with curried mayo and seaweed salt 🐮 Saucy Cow pie - an award winning slow cooked steak and ale pie with confit carrots and parsnips. I swapped out mash for triple cooked chips (mash is the food of the devil) 🐮 Sirloin steak with bone marrow butter, triple cooked chips, mushroom, tomato and onion rings 🍲 Nasi Goreng with roasted vegetables (vegan and off Le Specials board) 🍰 Sticky toffee pudding, triple chocolate brownie, chantilly cream and Crème anglaise (all gluten frickin free mind!!) And all were stand out dishes..... In fact, it was impossible to pick a favourite! It was wonderful to see a menu that so easily caters for my vegan and gluten free King's and Queen's, and with dishes that are just as, if not more delicious than their meaty/gluteny (made up word for sure) counterparts..... Out-fricken-standing 🙌🏻 We enjoyed our meal so much, that my fellow diner felt over come with blogginess and wanted to say a few of their owns words.... And I quote .... 📍Ji Chicken Shop, Bristol (Locations across UK too) This is a popular spot among both Asians and locals in the UK! They are known for their well-seasoned Taiwanese styled fried chicken. And it’s halal!! You can choose from a wide range of chicken parts - the skin, breast, thigh gizzard and even popcorn chicken! Of course, we had the chicken breast and the thigh. ✨ The batter is crispy without being too oily with the meat remaining juicy and moist. You can also choose the seasoning you prefer. The fries were also coated in a moreish plum seasoning and we enjoyed that a lot! Now, the bubble tea. We have a weakness for brown sugar flavoured drinks and love how we could customise our drinks. We changed our milk tea to soy milk and swapped the pearls for a pudding topping instead. It tasted much lighter and the pudding added a nice mellow vanilla flavour. The Truffled Cheese Doughnuts promised indulgence with Parmesan, mozzarella, and truffle-infused oil, yet fell short on filling, resembling more of a petite croquette. Nevertheless, the flavors were on point, with the truffle oil lending a decadent aroma. Moving on to the Pan-Roasted Lamb Rump, the dish boasted a symphony of flavors, with chive mashed potatoes offering a creamy, buttery accompaniment to the beautifully flavored red wine sauce. However, the slightly cold and overcooked lamb rump was a disappointment, detracting from an otherwise well-balanced dish. Sautéed green beans and chargrilled vegetables added a refreshing crunch and depth of flavor. The Signature House Soda, a Lychee & Mint concoction, provided a refreshing respite from the rich dishes. Lightly sweet and delightfully addictive, it served as the perfect palate cleanser. (Just make sure to stir it before you start sipping). Unfortunately, the dining experience was marred by exceedingly slow service, stretching our visit to almost three hours. It seemed to be an understaffed day and was the first time I’ve experienced this, so this is truly something I won’t hold against them as they did the best they could.
