The #cherryblossoms🌸 were out in force on my street, so I wore my #vintagemillinery #flowerhat to match them. Pinned a tiny bud vase filled with faux blossoms onto my #midcentury #vintageknitset — a three-piece ensemble in varying shades of #celerygreen (the fading on the jacket makes it more of a yellow in places, like the very tender heart of the celery)… to run my errands, I carried a tote printed with #floralpatterns and wore flat shoes with a pink print. My #vintagegloves are #festooned with little crochet dangles, and I wore my #vintagesunglasses from @kays_korner_cookstreetvillage because they have wee pearl and #pinkrhinestones flowers on the #cateyeframes ! Every week, putting these outfits together is like assembling a wearable collage. I take delight in coordinating the elements into an ensemble that I feel suits the season and whatever my spirit yearns for. Lots of smiles greeted me as I made my way from the grocery store to the coffee shop and wherever I needed to go. Being splendid is a wonderful way to add connection into life… everyone seems to appreciate the extra effort we make when we wear things that offer a bridge to a stranger a chance to comment or compliment us. Decided to dress like a pink-blossomed tree in flower 🌸 for my Tuesday rounds. Wool Butte knit #boucle #pinksuit from @houseofsavoyvic and I’ll post the original ad for the same one in “sail white”— assuming mine is what they called “raspberry punch” in 1964. I took the jacket in on the seams to be more fitted through the waist, and reblocked the skirt to force it below the knee. I definitely prefer styles from the late #1950s to early #1960s when the skirts were longer… so I often alter the hemlines myself to get that effect. Wore my pink straw #vintagemillinery festooned with #silkflowers — I really should have documented the restoration. It needed a lot of steaming and floofing, but I thought it was perfect for a sunny day with bright blue skies and clouds of #cherryblossoms everywhere… definitely had a lot of pleasant connections with people at the grocery store and all around town as I ran my errands. I love referencing historic images of what women wore in the #1950s and early #1960s — when I found this #pinksuit @houseofsavoyvic last year, I figured it was a little later into the 60s… turns out it’s 1964, to be exact. Documented here in “sail white,” my suit is what the ad called “raspberry punch.” Since I wasn’t a fan of the original buttons, I switched out for lucite moon glow in pink. Since I didn’t love the boxy jacket, I tailored it to have a narrower waist. And since the skirt had been hemmed and still would have been above the knee when I let it out, I washed and reblocked it to force it below the knee. So yes, it’s the same Butte Knit suit from 1964, but I remade it a bit to look more like maybe 1958. Wore pink moonglow #vintagejewelry and #pinkgloves and of course a #vintagehat festooned with #silkflowers … like so many spring hats were in late #50sfashion … I included a few more pink suits and spring styles as reference from this era.
