I went to the trail late morning while it was still below freezing. There were a few icy spots going up the first big hill. It warmed up while I was out there and things started to melt and thaw. Going back down the big hill there is no way I would have stayed on my feet without my @high_stream_gear trekking pole. Where there was no snow the once frozen ground was now slippery mud. Several times both feet were just sliding and I held on to the pole for dear life. Ha! I was getting a bit discouraged out on the trail today. I had checked the forecast and it said 90% chance of snow. In my mind I had the picture of a hike with huge, gently falling snowflakes. Well, I kept hiking but it wasn’t snowing. And part of the trail was icy and dicey. And everything was brown. Ugh! I needed an attitude check. I really was grateful to be out in the fresh air; a brief escape from the walls of my house. I recalled the beautiful wildflowers (and weeds) that I enjoy in the summer. They don’t bloom without the winter dormant season. So I kept hiking...and it started snowing. A few weeks ago I posted about not running anymore. Well, last night I ran. I headed to the trail with my heart hurting. I stood at the bottom of one of the hills and thought, “I can cry or I can run.” I chose to run. Earlier I had gotten some news that one of Martilee’s Rett sisters was not doing well and the doctors weren’t giving the family much hope. So, last night I ran for Haley. The last update came late last night when they had stabilized her enough to transfer her several hours away to the children’s hospital. Please pray for her. Life as a special needs mama is stressful. I constantly have anxiety over my daughter’s health. I have mom guilt - thinking that I never do enough to help her. If she doesn’t sleep, I don’t sleep. If she sleeps, I wake up in a panic wondering why I haven’t heard her for hours. It’s tough. // It’s good for me to get out on the trail. Trudging up a steep hill, I focus on the strength it will take me to get to the top. It hurts but I know it will be worth it. Oh, it’s always so worth it. I find peace up there.
