La presse internationale relève le courage et le dévouement de cette souveraine-infirmière qui, dès la guerre des Balkans, en 1913, s’était investie dans les soins aux victimes du choléra. Lors de la conférence de la paix en 1919, la reine, ambassadrice et négociatrice respectée, est reçue par Clemenceau puis à L’Elysée, où elle reçoit les honneurs militaires, et enfin à l’Académie de France où elle est accueillie par le peintre François Flameng et le philosophe Henri Bergson. Rachel Corrie è stata un'attivista statunitense uccisa schiacciata da un bulldozer mentre compiva un’azione di resistenza pacifica opponendosi alla distruzione di abitazioni palestinesi da parte del governo israeliano. Con l’International Solidarity Movement era a Rafah, nella striscia di Gaza, per documentare i soprusi e partecipare attivamente alla resistenza nei confronti dell’esercito israeliano, durante l’Intifada di Al Aqsa. Era il 16 marzo 2003 e Rachel Corrie era salita su un mucchio di detriti per provare a fermare l'abbattimento della casa di un medico, aveva un giubbotto rosso catarifrangente e impugnava un megafono, ma l'uomo che guidava il mezzo ha sostenuto di non averla vista, l'ha travolta ed è passato sul suo corpo per ben due volte. Il conducente è stato subito scagionato e l'omicidio derubricato come un incidente non intenzionale dovuto all’incauto comportamento dei manifestanti. La grande umanità e impegno di Rachel Corrie che, a soli 23 anni, ha perso la vita per sostenere la causa palestinese, non devono mai essere dimenticati. Avrebbe potuto voltarsi dall'altra parte, ma non l'ha fatto e il suo impegno le è costato la sua giovane vita.
