Zuuli (2021) - Weekend Review 👨👩👧👧 1-6 Players 👶 8 Years + ⏳️ 15 Minutes Designed by : @unfringedthings **** Zoo's are great aren't they, well the good ethical ones are anyway, in Zuuli we are building our own Zoos, filling them with a Noah's Ark full of animals, making sure that they have adequate enclosures in which they can live and of course being kept away from anything that could eat them, what more could an animal want. Using a standard pick and pass mechanic players take a hand of cards, choose one then pass the remaining cards to the next player, this happens until all cards are selected, then develop your park, making sure every animal is happy and uneaten, do this for 3 rounds, count up the scores and the most points wins, huzzah! **** Zuuli is just a delightful little game, a real joy to play, it's beautiful with art that just pops and is bright and just joyous. It's easy to to teach as well with just a quick overview of what each card does and needs being enough to get going. But underneath the cutesy art is a pretty cut throat strategic game, hate drafting is rife, or at least it is in my household, hell if I see you can score an additional lion, you bet your backside I'm drafting it given half a chance. This is a game that will live in my collection forever, it's deceptively deep yet approachable for newer players and with it being a smaller box it's ideal to throw in a bag for days out, but beware you will need a bit of table space to build out your zoo. Its also on BGA, so go give it a try, I'm always up for a turn based game if you are looking for friends on there. Mike picked up a copy of Zuuli from @unfringedthings at @aireconuk last weekend and we knew we had to get this to the table. Really fun card drafting and set collection game with super cute artwork. Definitely more fierce than it looks when competing for the enclosures to make sure you do not have any animal cards left out. Really like the way you can amend your wildlife park in years 2 and 3 creating more choices to try and max out scores. What would you play for a birthday treat? With the majority of the board games still in packing boxes due to an issue with a floor we managed to find some very fun family weight games to have a games day for my birthday. First up was Creature Comforts from @kidstablebg - I really enjoy this one it’s got lots of strategy and each play so far we have found a different combination of cards that mean we are following a different path. This game my husband was collecting tons of groups of resources and I was constructing the higher point cards. In the end there was only a few points in it. A game that’s easy to learn but always thinky and fun to play. Next up Zuuli from @unfringedthings - I just love this one. It starts off pretty relaxed and then as it progresses you have the wonderful push and pull of really wanting the animals that will score you the most points but also needing the enclosures to be able to place them. I find myself trying to mind read the other players hoping that card I really wanted but didn’t take will come back round to me. Finally I introduce the great brain burning Boop from @smirkanddagger to my husband. I love how you introduce this game to someone and it has a crazy theme of pushing cats around on a bed. The rules are super simple and the person looks at you like really that’s a game! Then you play it and it clicks and the little grey cells start working and their eyes light up and they realise it’s so good. It hurts my brain and makes me smile. 줄라이를 하다가 생각난 서식지들 비교리뷰 둘 다 무척 쉽고 짧은 플레이타임을 가져 급 생각나서 꺼내보았다. 주머니에서 타일을 꺼내는 백빌딩이냐 카드로 진행되는 게임이냐 정도 차이가 있지만 둘 다 3년동안 땅 조건에 맞추어 동물을 모아 나만의 동물원을 만든다는 공통점이 있다. 1. 서식지들(habibats) 예쁘다! 디럭스미플과 함께라면 대만족! 각 동물이 하나씩밖에 없는게 특징이다. 다운타임동안 내 동물 미플 찾다보면 시간 금방간다 차를 움직여 타일을 얻고 해당 타일로 내 공원을 꾸민다. 이 때 조건을 만족한 동물들이 내 점수가 된다. 매 년 10번의 플레이를 하고 연간 목표를 이루기위해 달려야하는데 진짜 너무 빨리 시간이 가버린다 ㅜㅜ 후반으로 갈수록 얻은 동물을 점수화하기 어려워지고 잠깐 방심하면 버려지는 동물이 생겨버리는 게임 2. 줄라이(zuuli) 이것도 디럭스로 나오면 참 좋겠지 싶다. 동물이 지형에 딸려있는 서식지들과 달리 지형카드와 동물카드가 나뉘어 있다. 지형에도 크기가 있고 초식과 육식이 있어 각 조건에 맞게 동물들을 이동해야하는데 매 년 이 과정을 반복하며 많은 점수를 뽑기위해 고민하게 된다. 기초 서식지에 새로운 특성을 주거나 크기를 늘려주는 등의 효과를 가진 향상카드까지 최대한 활용하여 점수를 뽑아내는 게임. 드래프트를 통해 상대방의 전략을 예측해보는 재미도 있다 낄낄 캘리코는 하다보면 스트레스가 좀 있는데 이 둘은 큰 스트레스 없이 즐길 수 있는 게임이라 참 좋은 것 같다. 비슷한 게임으로는 라이프오브아마조니아가 그렇게 재밌다던데.. 과연 한국정발을 할 것인가...ㅜㅜ #부부보드게임 #줄라이보드게임 #서식지들 #zuuli #habitatsboardgame

Since getting Zuuli, we've played it a number of times, but I haven't posted the plays owing to a lack of time. If like me, you didn't get an opportunity to play it, then you should go onto BoardGameArena to quickly learn how to play it and whether it is a game for you. My wife was immediately taken with it after a couple of plays on BGA. In the game, different animals need different habitats, and over the three rounds, you can rearrange the animals in the enclosures. This has already been added to the selection of games that we take with us when we go out and about. When we had a spare 15 minutes I suggested playing Zuuli since it was easy to set up and play. This time around, I had a fairly reasonable first round, but my wife had a couple of points advantage, but I wasn't unduly worried. The second round she extended her lead and I thought it might be a bit challenging to make the points up. Then in the final round, she totally trounced me to record a new personal best. She finished on 104 points, the first time recording a score over 100. What have you played this week? Wow another week has gone by and it’s time for #sundaystats🔮 with @spaghettiandmeeples This felt like a crazy busy week with it being the last one of the summer holidays but I have played so many games! So much fun. My kids chose a few games for our 10x10 challenge this year. We had a check in this week with resulted in plays of Outfoxed, The Muddles and a renewed enthusiasm for the mad Quirky Circuits. Me and the hubby played Brazil Imperial (review copy) again. Still really enjoying it even though I was beaten this time. Solo I played my 10th quest of Descent legends of the Dark and my first play of Raiders and Scythia. Both will hopefully be back to the table soon. On BGA I am enjoying Can’t Stop despite being absolutely awful at knowing when to stop. Also really enjoyed Zuuli where you are drafting cards to place into your zoo. A fun puzzle. Then I played 61 Autumn Leaves for the first time and it’s a really fun very simple roll and write. Finally I was lucky to try Hadrians Wall currently in Alpha. This game is so fun but I am not good at it. It's #firstimpressionsfriday🎲 time again, as created by @kay_plays_games and we were playing Zuuli. I know I am a bit late to this after all the buzz and rave reviews last year, but we didn't have any opportunities to play it previously and I was unsure if it would go down well enough. This has recently been added to BoardGameArena which meant that we could get a proper feel for the game without buying it first (no one local to us that we know has it). There have been plenty of recommendations for this and it is an ideal size to take places. After a couple of plays on BGA my wife was suitably enamoured by it to the extent that she would play the game on her phone last thing at night. She then gave the go ahead to get a physical copy of the game. Compared to another card drafting game, the cards clearly state what their requirements are as different animals need different habitats, plus in playing over the three rounds, you can rearrange the animals in the enclosures. The animals all have a particular trait such as friendly or fierce, and only fierce animals can occupy an enclosure with other fierce animals of the same type unless you have a specific card to mitigate this. The designers have clearly given a lot of thought about which animals to include. I hope that they will accept suggestions for future animals. The iconography and the artwork really make the game and I expect the red panda is likely to be one of the favourite animals. We've played quite a few games since it plays so easily with both family and friends.
