My subject was a woman who owned a convenience store in front of a local market. During our conversation, I noticed her strong attachment to her convenience store, which she referred to as her fortress. This unique insight sparked my creativity, leading me to design a model inspired by the shell of a “Muimuy.” These creatures use their shell for protection and also bury themselves underground to shield themselves from danger. Documentation - post 1 /graduation project 2023 Hejaz Railway - Amman Station, Jordan From the main point that contributed the formation of the city of Amman to the most neglected historical place, despite the heritage, architectural and urban importance of the region. The Hejaz Railway was constructed by the Ottomans at the request of Sultan Abdul Hamid II during the period between 1900 and 1908 to serve Muslim pilgrims on their pilgrimage to Islamic holy sites in the Arabian Peninsula. The project revived the dream of Islamic unity at a time when the major European countries were planning to break the nation and fragment its unity. The project of the twentieth century and the dream of the nation was the main line linking Damascus to Medina on a straight line. The Hejaz Railway in Jordan, specifically the main station in Amman, was neglected due to political and historical decisions between the Ottomans and the Hashemites, despite its great role in shaping the city and working to bring together the different cultures in the surrounding region and improving the economic situation when it was established. The station was an important factor in craft, mechanical and carpentry workshops, and was an economic, social and urban factor for the region. This masterplan for a new speculative “Utility City” covering the expanse of Newham was created from a combination of computer models and Photoshop. Key areas were cut out with masks and highlighted with textures. Some others utilised outlines, drop shadows and opaque colouring to highlight further zones. The plan was created in many organised layers and groups so that I could strip it back and create a series of phasing diagrams to show its development. The spectrum of the visually impaired can be subdivided, and this space is for people of all spectrums. They perceive and experience buildings, starting with their tactile senses, and the accumulated experiences are expressed on the walls and facades of buildings, and the units on the walls are displayed all over the world to form a worldwide community. The journey of the visitors begins when they arrive at the site, black sand beach Reynisfjara, and are overwhelmed by the natural scenery, the sound of the waves, and the various smells of the sea. The vertical Retreat tower facing the Black sand beach shines as a lighthouse, constantly changing as users accumulate experiences. The light of Facade changes its shape through a mechanism in which users' experiences and traces are converted into data. Starting partly underground, the spa redefines the relationship of visitors to the site's nature by bringing in panoramic views of the Icelandic wilderness as a backdrop. The golden sandstone of ‘Mansfield’ in warm Autumn light standing on High Street, which was once an ancient sea. Hundreds of millions of years ago the area currently known as the Hunter Valley was covered by a large sea in the form of a gulf. Two massive sandstone urns which once sat on top of the building were dislodged by the Newcastle earthquake in 1989 and now sit in the grounds of the property. Designed by George Allen Mansfield, the official Commercial Banking Company architect, and completed in 1888, this building is an example of Victorian Classical architecture, with the style based on the Italian Renaissance period. #mymaitland #sandstone #architecturestudentwork

Featured Student Work from Fall 2023 Studio: ARCH 100C Heterogeneous Construction Instructor: Aaron Forrest, Yasmin Vobis, Brett Schneider (RISD) Studio Description: “This studio explored the latent potential of heterogeneous construction as a radical catalyst for sustainability and cultural inclusion in contemporary architectural production. Working from early research into mixed-material construction found in early industrial and global vernacular architecture, students investigated the possibilities for both performance and expression of these new types of construction at the scale of both the element and the building as a whole. In the first half of the semester, students designed experimental building element prototypes (walls, columns, floors, and roofs) that made use of multiple materials—typically generic, recycled, reused, and found—performing in complement. The students worked in small teams to design and build the elements at 1:1. In the second half of the semester, students designed a mid-sized building that deployed the prototype building elements at scale in an urban context. Scaling up, students speculated on the impact of heterogeneous construction techniques on the structure, space, and social impact that only the building can embody. GESTURED ELEVATIONS Workshop (Fall 2023) Led by: @sahil.p.shah @tamu_aias Description: The workshop by A&M’s AIAS chapter aimed to create compositions using various sections and photographs, organized through two parameters. The first exercise involved creating elevational compositions using two examples: a facade and window photograph, and Pompidou’s elevational section, exploring their relationship at different scales. The second exercise added references like Denari’s 1987 Prototype Regeneration Section, using a construction detail for gesture organization, open to interpretation. The final iteration deliberately tied together facade, construction section, and building section elevations, using Pompidou’s center staircase, blending brick and metal materials out of their original scale.
