If you have about 30-40 filler game time to waste, Cat in the Box is a good game to fill the time. It's a game that adds interesting twists to the traditional trick-taking (Bridge would be the OG game) genre. In each round, each player would put out a card to try to win the set. The twists? 1. The cards aren't coloured by default, so players would self-determine the colour suit each cycle - one could thus lie there's no more cards of the winning colour but you risk getting caught on your lie if you trigger a "paradox" 2. each number of the four colours can only be called out once (there are markers to indicate what has already been called out) so one may not have the right cards towards the end of the round for the remaining numbers/colours to be called 2. There's a prediction bit on how many sets each player would win for that round and if you predict correctly, you get bonus points for the longest 'chain' of cards you played. Overview: Space Lions is a hand management lane battling game for 2-5 players, with elements of skirmish and bluffing. In the game, each player will pick a faction to play as well as one special leader for their faction (which will allow that card to be a super charged version of that character). Factions have variable player powers making each faction play slightly differently with the end goal being to win the most battles to the left or right of you or in the center of the area where all factions may fight. Pros: -Typical lane battlers I have played only allow for two players at a time, however, Space Lion offers a five player experience. -Player only play 4 cards per round, and then will not receive those cards back to play until the a later round, as they go into a cool down period. This allows for interesting hand management choices. - Discarding cards for special powers can offer some serious benefits, but can be risky allowing for interesting decision space. - The game can be pretty quick as long as no one gets AP. Cons: - I found the rule book to be a little hard to follow (this could have been a me thing, but I was confused originally as to when to take the cards back into my hand); luckily there are some great online rules explanations provided by the publisher. - We found the Lion faction to feel a bit overpowered due to the fact they can get cards back between rounds which is one of the major parts of the game. - Due to the fact that the lead player picks the battle order, there can be turns were it feels like you did nothing at all; which if it happens over and over can feel super frustrating. Overall verdict: My recommendation would be to try before you buy on this one. I know there are plenty of people who this game will be right up their ally, for example people who enjoy punching card games such as BattleCon or Exceed. Keep, Cull, or Classroom Library: This one will not stay in our collection, but I already have the perfect home for it. Voidfall (@mindclash_games) has pretty much everything that you could wish for in a game- certainly everything I look for in a game. Deep strategy, hundreds of paths to take, a game that will reward the time invested in thinking about your turns, but will also try to foil your plans and make you weigh up the short term tactics versus your long term strategy. It looks visually stunning on the table (the galactic box, anyway) with multilayered boards, sculpted miniatures and beautiful artwork. Various technology cards, or scoring agenda cards, will mix up every game you play, and modify how you will tackle the enemy. And, of course, it can be played solo. Another Monday and another meet for Southampton on Board at @boardinthecity. Played a few games tonight in the social deduction theme. First were two games of Feed the Kraken. In both game I was a sailor and in both games I got thrown overboard and ended on losing team. First game pirates won getting to pirate island. Second game the cult leader recruited twice and managed to get thrown over in the final chance. My losing streak continues. The second game was Deception: Murder in Hong Kong. In first game was an investigator and we got murderer but they found the witness and we lost. The second game I was forensic scientist. Some of the cards I drew for clues weren’t helpful. I tried to get the investigators looking in right direction but they failed to find the murder with right method and evidence. Taking a look at the setup for Age of Rome from @teetotumgamestudios Players seek to become Rome’s new emperor by building up provinces and balancing war, politics, trade and religion. There is an area control element that plays out on the board that rotates “lazy Susan-style.” It doesn’t look terribly complex and I’m excited to jump in. Just getting a look at the components at this point. I had to get a glimpse at Age of Rome since I’m pretty excited about the publisher’s next Kickstarter called Restart and it was great to see the quality they bring to the table. Restart is a time travel adventure where players work to fix various problems in the world. As we know with time travel, every action has a reaction and Restart seems to breed unexpected circumstances. First Rat —————————— First Rat is a set collection race game where players are rat-astrounauts (Ratrounauts) that try to build a ship and get to the cheese moon. —————————— Each turn players advance their rats 1-3 spaces on the path to the finish line. On the way they collect ingredients to build parts of the rocket, release more rats from their lair and purchase things like comic books, soda cans or bottle caps. They use those things to advance on various tracks that give the players various victory points. We played a really fun doubleheader yesterday. The always great Foundations of Rome and the new Skyrise! I’ll be honest, I didn’t know too much about Skyrise going in other than it had an auction mechanism. At first, I thought it was ok but as we played it got increasingly more interesting! Each building has a number value that you’re using to bid in hopes to construct that building. There are end Era scoring cards, along with personal objectives (I wish those were more varied) favor tokens, and neighborhood tokens that help steer you towards what you want to bid. Everything stems from that auction. Knowing how high to bid to secure a location is tense as you look around and compare what numbers your opponents have remaining. Theres also an interesting catch up mechanism. Everyone will have an opportunity to build all of their buildings and if you’re the last person, there’s no one to oppose you, so you can kinda maximize those final turns. Scores were pretty close! I won with 133 and then it went 130 for 2nd and 124 for 3rd. Si jamais, les romans « Le Paris des merveille » de Pierre Pevel sont géniaux. • Outre le thème, les mécaniques offres de bonnes idées. En fonction de la carte tirée au début de chaque tour, le joueur actif décide des actions disponibles pendant la manche. Il va falloir être réactif et bien réfléchir. En plus de poser son ouvrier, on lui attribue une somme d’argent, afin de remporter la majorité sur une colonne qui offrira un bonus en fin de manche. • Des personnalités sont disponibles sur le plateau sous forme de rivière. Soit nous les acquérons mais il faudra les payer en fin de parties ou nous utilisons leurs pouvoirs immédiatement. • Jouant d’illustres ingénieurs, nous avons la possibilité de fabriquer des oeuvres et de faire varier le cours du marché lors de leurs ventes en fonction du nombre d’œuvres en possession. C’est ingénieux et inédit. • Le but principal est quand même de construire nos 6 maisons qui coûtent de plus en plus cher mais les matériaux requis sont déterminés par un cadran que chaque joueur fait tourner à la fin de son tour. • C’est un jeu très beau, riche en mécaniques et plutôt fluide. Práve vyšiel ďalší Milostný dopis, tentokrát taký, ku ktorému to parádne sadne. Ide totiž o: ➡️ Milostný dopis Bridgertonovi od @blackfire.cz 💬 Už pár týždňov doma s deťmi valíme koťátkovskú verziu Mocichtivý mazlíci, ale Bridgertonovci sú proste Bridgertonovci (dámy určite chápu 🤷♀️ ). 💬 A tak od tejto verzie čakám herné partie hlavne s kamoškami, pri ktorých sa do jednotlivých rolí viac vcítime. Niežeby to ale u Milostného dopisu bolo nejak nutné. 💬 Hra je v zásade skoro identická tej najnovšej verzii klasického Milostného dopisu. Nájdete tu staré známe čísla aj ich efekty. Nechýba číslo 0, ktoré bola špiónka, tu je to Daphne, ani číslo 6, pomocou ktorého si doberiete dve karty, jednu si necháte a zvyšnú dáte naspodok balíčka. 💬 Jedinou úplnou novinkou je karta bez čísla, označená symbolom kráľovskej koruny. A na nej nikto iný než kráľovná Šarlota. Tento efekt vám umožní vyradiť hráča, alebo aj hráčov s najnižšou hodnotou na ruke. Efekt parádny, takže ju rozhodne chcete vždy zahrať. Nechať si ju na ruke do konca hry by bol čistý nezmysel (nemá totiž žiadne číslo a prehrala by každý súboj). 💬 Tak toľko pre tých, čo hru Milostný dopis poznajú. A pre tých ostatných, rýchle predstavenie: 💬 Ide o extrémne rýchlu (a občas aj návykovú) hru, ktorú si zahráte s deťmi, aj s dospelákmi ako úžasný filler. A nezapadne ani ako party hra k nejakému pivu, či vínu. 💬 Pravidlá vysvetlíte za pár sekúnd, pretože na ruke máte vždy jednu kartu. Keď ste na ťahu jednu kartu si doberiete a potom jednu z týchto kariet vyložíte. Tým spustíte jej efekt o ktorých je celá hra. 💬 Vašou úlohou je zostať v hre čo najdlhšie a ideálne aj s nejakým vysokým číslom, ak by došlo na záverečné porovnávanie hodnôt. Lenže tie efekty, ako ich zahrať, kedy a na koho, to je celé kúzlo tejto jednoduchej hry s pár kartami. Ak Milostný dopis nepoznáte, rozhodne nejaký vyskúšajte. We had a lot of fun with Stonespine Archetects. Our first play dungeons had like no paths to connect to the entrances or the exits, BUT WE CRUSHED OUR BLUEPRINTS. The draft and pass mechanic reminded us of Its A Wonderful World, and anything in the Roll Player world feels like home. Another play of Flamecraft! . I've played Flamecraft only four times so I can't call myself a veteran in any means, though. I'm not sure how much replayability stands or at least I don't get the feeling that I want to play it repeatedly in a short amount of time. . But I still enjoy this game as it is. SPIELDOCH 24 Dortmund 🎲 Dieses Jahr konnten wir die Messe leider nur am Freitag besuchen, was aber bei der Größe auch ausreichend war 🤗 Glücklicherweise war die Halle nicht überfüllt, sodass man entspannt durch die Gänge flanieren und stressfrei Gespräche mit allerlei Menschen führen konnte. Besondere Highlights zu Neuankündigungen waren dieses Jahr weniger zu finden. Was aber definitiv brandneu in die Tasche wandern musste war die Alpin-Erweiterung zu Mischwald!! 😍 Wir nutzen die Messe vor allem sehr gerne, um mit Bekannten und Freunden von Verlagen & Socialmedia und anderen Brettspielwahnsinnigen zu reden und mit diesen natürlich auch zu spielen. Glücklicherweise läuft man sich auf gröseren Brettspielevents immer wieder über die Füße 🥰 Nebenbei haben wir uns auch das ein oder andere Spiel zeigen lassen. Besonders interessant waren hier Quartz von @till5am_games, Chronofall von @ornamentgames und Monsters on the Moon vom @spieldasverlag. Leider sind kooperative Spiel ja nicht wirklich was für uns, daher können wir Chronofall nur allen Koop-Fans ans Herz legen!! 🙏🏻 Weiterhin hat uns @ornamentgames ihr zukünftiges Projekt Eternitium gezeigt. Ein Deckbuilder mit tollen Illustrationen. Das wird eher etwas für uns 😊 Zum Abschluss des Tages durften wir mit den überragenden @dicedudes_suchtproblem Flügelschlag spielen. Für uns die allererste Partie 🙈 #besserspätalsnie Tolles Spiel, angenehmer Wohlfühlfaktor mit sehr wenig Interaktion. Super für harmoniebedürftige Runden. Am Wochenende kam auch zum ersten Mal #harmonies auf den Tisch, das es nicht ganz so lange auf den Pile geschafft hat. Dies ist schönes Naturspiel in dem wir Lebensräume in bestimmten Formen versuchen zu erschaffen. Jeder Lebensraum hat unterschiedliche Anforderungen und jedes Tier unterschiedliche Lebensräume. Ich finde das Spiel wirklich gut gelungen und das Artwork ist einfach toll. Durch die unterschiedlichen Tiere versucht jeder seinen Plan anders zu bepuzzeln. Ich empfinde das Spiel als eine Mischung aus Tiny Towns, Reef und Cascadia. Und auch wenn Tiny Towns hier ausgezogen, so finde ich dieses Spiel sehr gelungen und es darf auf jeden Fall bleiben. Meinem Mann gefiel es leider nicht so gut und er würde Cascadia vorziehen. Einziger negativer Punkt, die Karten sind leider verbogen und müssen nochmal gerade gebogen werden, damit sie überhaupt aufliegen. Ist das bei Euch auch so. ¡Hellooo! Le estoy cogiendo gustito a que aparezca mi cara por aquí. Os cuento…tengo un reto con Reich, por el cual si tengo más MG que ella durante 10 publicaciones seguidas me va a regalar uno de los siguientes juegos, así que ayudadme un poquito y reventad el botoncito de corazón. Dicho esto y, una vez enseñados los 10 jugos favoritos de mi colección, aquí tenéis mi TOP 5 de la ludoteca de la Reichi :) Top 5 - #DuneImperium: mi top 1 a 3 a más jugadores. Un inicio muy dirigido que si todo el mundo respeta lleva a batallas increíbles a final de turno. Me parece un euro para un grupo de 3-4 personas perfecto: interacción junto con construcción de mazos. Deseando que me llegue el “Dune Imperium: Uprising” para añadirlo a mi ludoteca. Top 4 - #Revive: qué manera usar la campaña como excusa para repetir y volver a jugar un juego que nos ha flipado durante 7 partidas ¡y qué partidas! El haber añadido nuevas reglas en cada una, te hace sentir que controlas el 100% del juego. En conclusión: una pasada. Top 3 - #LasRuinasPerdidasDeArnak: uno de mis primeros recuerdos de sentarme a jugar un eurogame, junto con Agrícola. Creo que es el juego que me ayudó a entender cómo funcionan este tipo de juegos. Mini Crimes Serie 1 ~ Grandi indagini in scatole mini La serie 1 delle Mini Crimes conta sei casi investigativi, tutte storie diverse con temi differenti (tranne che ci scappa sempre il morto…) e che non hanno bisogno di essere giocate in sequenza, potete scegliere quella che più vi ispira. Dato che ci piacciono i giochi investigativi abbiamo comprato subito il bundle ma si possono acquistare anche singolarmente. All’interno della mini scatola troviamo una carta più grande che è la scena del crimine e le carte indizio. È un gioco dove è necessario saper cogliere tutti i dettagli, anche quelli più piccoli, e studiare bene l’immagine ci potrebbe dare molti suggerimenti. Nessuno dei casi ci è sembrato impossibile da risolvere e raramente ci hanno messo in difficoltà ma tutti si sono rivelati una bella sfida. Alcuni casi li abbiamo giocati in quattro ed è stato divertente vedere come ognuno contribuiva con le proprie congetture o faceva notare cose di cui gli altri non si erano accorti. Ciò che ci piace delle Mini Crimes è la compattezza che permette di portarle ovunque ma anche l’idea di regalarle ad altri per sfidare a fare meglio di noi. Ci sono piaciute tanto da spingerci a comprare anche tutta le Serie 2. ▪️Fallout: The Board Game▪️ Is a survival exploration game for 1-4 players based on the Fallout video games. Players are in the nuclear wasteland trying to gather up enough influence before the other players and in game factions. This is accomplished by exploring, gathering equipment, killing monsters and fulfilling quests. If players aren’t careful though the NPC factions could beat all the players. This game is not cooperative but players can collectively lose. We’ve had this game for a while and had not tried it. After watching the Fallout TV show, we decided to give it a shot. We have conflicting feelings about it because there is some pretty cool stuff going on making it very thematic to the video games, but also making it meandering and long at times. The combat can be random. The alignment with factions is odd how you can still lose if they finish the track. That being said, it’s just fun to explore and turn over new encounter cards. Even with its flaws, I think we will be returning to the wasteland soon. There is a cooperative mode that we really want to try as well. ◽️Fallout shelter◽️ is a lesser known Fallout board game based around a mobile version of the video games. Players all control a floor of a Fallout shelter trying to make theirs better the fastest. Players accomplish this through worker placement actions with some interesting twists on the mechanic. All is not cozy in the Fallout shelter though because monsters and raiders can clog up spots and cause everyone problems but also offer rewards. So players have to balance how much they expand while also not letting too many baddies over run their spots and slow their progress down.
