Backpacking b-roll // campsites through the years. Three from California and one from Virginia ⛺️ each spot has its own little quirks that need to be accounted for! 1. Minaret Lake - here we wanted a spot that had easy access to the water while being shielded from the wind, soft enough ground to put in tent stakes, and far from the other person or two also camping around the lake. The last thing you want is to get up in the night to pee and stumble into someone else’s camp! 2. Cole Mountain - aptly nicknamed Cold Mountain, here we wanted a spot with light enough snow cover that we could sweep it mostly clear, and far enough from the edge of the ridge that no one would fall down it if we stumbled getting in or out of the tent. 3. The Graveyard Lakes - we thought we had found our spot and had put our packs down to go exploring a little further...and we discovered this spot, which turned out to be even nicer than the first. 4. Lightning Mountain - when I came upon this meadow, I wondered if it might be too swampy or buggy to make a good camp, but after inspecting it all I decided it would work. This was the campsite where I stepped in mud at the edge of the stream and filled my whole shoe, but that was mostly just due to human error 😂 The tent shown in all of these is the MSR Hubba Hubba, which I’ve had for many years, but I could also do a campsite post with my Nemo Hornet since I’ve used that a lot too!
