Oh crap! It’s the thing that was in the thing from the thing! 😃 Amidst the ocean of four wheeled missles disguised as “street cars” at Texas Motorplex this last weekend, it was nice to catch a glimpse of this somewhat underrated movie car icon. Leon’s canary yellow R33 GT-R a.k.a “Big Bird” from the original Fast and Furious is instantly recognizable by those in the know, which is especially surprising given the little over 2 minutes of screen time the car actually had. Though it’s run was short(much like the driver’s character in the movies), it certainly left a lasting impression. It may play second fiddle to the Supra, Charger and Eclipse, but I would certainly put it over the (no brake caliper)Jetta and that hideous blue Maxima. We all know the one. However, it seems like this example might be a replica, given everything I can find on the internet suggests the original car was a Motorex import that ended up getting crushed due to the final owner’s sketchy issues with documentation for the car. I never got to speak with any of the @motive_video guys about how this car came into their possession, but given their insane history with GT-Rs down under, i’m sure there’s quite the story there. Ford Torino Starsky & Hutch (1975) The Starsky & Hutch Ford Torino is probably the car I played with the most as a child. I keep the Corgi Juniors version, but it is very “played” (see it in the last photo). Although the one from my childhood has a lot of value for me , I wanted to buy one in better condition and this is it. Starsky and Hutch's car was an icon of the 70s. That legendary red 1975 Ford Torino with the white stripe on the sides became, thanks to the television series, one of the most famous cars in history. The actors who played the 2 police officers have been forgotten, but their car has not. The writers of the series were clear that Starsky's car had to play an important role. A hook for his followers. For this reason, like the actors, a casting was carried out to choose the appropriate model through which many vehicles passed. The Ford Torino was chosen to be part of the "cast" of the series. It was painted in the colors we already know and equipped with larger tires, luxurious 15-inch aluminum wheels and larger air inlets. Not only was it a success for the series, but Ford got a real publicity boost and lots of sales. In those years everyone wanted to drive Starsky and Hutch's car, that's why I would say that it is the car I played with the most in my childhood!!! The Ford Torino was manufactured between 1968 and 1976 with engines that offered power between 302 and 427 HP. The model that appears in the series starring in spectacular chases through the streets of Bay City is the one from 1975, with 6.6 liters and 400 HP. Needless to say, after the filming of each episode the car ended up with a few bumps and scratches. Before definitively ending its production, Ford launched a limited edition of 1,000 units in 1976 under the name "Gran Torino Starsky & Hutch", authentic collector's pieces, very difficult to find. A few of these commemorative models were searched throughout the country and acquired by the producers of the film "Starsky and Hutch" (2004), starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in a comedy style, in which a small tribute is paid to the Ford Torino at the end of the tape.
