Jessie Chaney — “The series ‘Memory of a Space’ captures the balance between absence and presence, in environments that once held significant meaning, and where an energetic resonance can still be felt. This series encapsulates the effect of the passage of time, questioning the nature of the energy that remains.” (Dutch ⤵️) • At Unseen, @FabrikProjectsGallery presented a solo presentation by Jessie Chaney (US). Her series “Memory of a Space" brings into focus numerous forlorn and overlooked sites the artist has encountered in her travels. These abandoned spaces are remnants of progress and change, empty buildings which provide evidence of previous inhabitants. The images tell stories through what has been left behind. If her photographs convey an air of nostalgia, it is not intended to be facile. "Memory of a Space" draws attention to the rapid changes in modern life, while celebrating small mementos of civilization. Chaney began this body of work in earnest before 2020. Since then, the series has assumed an additional gravitas because of how the world has changed since then. Focusing on the impact of societal change, Chaney's abandoned spaces now might be seen as possible safe havens for the future. 🤔Has there been a time that you doubt everything you do, regardless the positive feedback you might get? 🌝Well, the period I was painting Déesse (Goddess) and most of the paintings in the series called "Flow" I was constantly doubting myself. I was never happy with how each painting was turning out. 👀You won't believe this! But at some point I was so frustrated that I took my canvas to the backyard and took the high pressure hose to it. 💡as layers peeled, I felt lighter and fell in loved with the way things were turning out. I don't do that process as much these days, but know that it's always an option.😅 Déesse (Goddess), 24X48" mixed media on canvas
🎇When I finished painting this, I felt the lights were dancing and I was just floating and dancing with them. That is why I titled it "Lights Dancing."⠀ You just have to see it in person to feel the energy and see the lights shimmering, radiating from the canvas. ⠀ ☀️This painting brightens any room--Where would you see this painting hung?⠀ ⠀

Beginning a new painting is always the most exciting time for me. It's like universe is the limit--I'm open to be surprised, intrigued and blown away with what would come through on the canvas.
As memory fades, agitation and anxiety sets in—The only thing that calms his mind is art/colouring. We’ll soon move into using paint—You never know he might be more recognized for his art than I am 😍

😍I’m so intrigued with the process of crystal formations on my canvases. The formation is so out of my control—it depends on how humid or dry the air is—if there is a fan on or I have the window open. I love being surprised by the beauty of the crystals. They’re like snowflakes, each unique than the next. Zoom in if you can, to see more detail. By the way, this painting is Red Sun and is from the Indigo Dreaming Series.
💟 A touch of colour can transform any space. I usually work on square canvases. But with this painting I wanted to focus more on creating space. Red Sun is another painting from the Indigo Dreaming series.
