(21 May 2024) Lunch with a really nice view at Jektefartsmuseet! I had a dish which was very traditional to the exact Bodø & Kjerringøy area where we were visiting, called Møsbrømlefse (a paper-thin hard crêpe filled with marmelade, so think: dessert for lunch 💃🏽). Thanks to travelling with local hosts I was recommended to try this; otherwise, I never would have known! You know I’m a sucker for eating local 🙌🏽 My dish was delicious but not easy to photograph, so thankfully my new friend and fellow Greenlandic committee member Niklas let me photograph his lunch, røkt laks surdejsvaffel 🤪 A savory sourdough waffle filled with smoked salmon, caviar and onion. I’ve seen a handful of them both in southern Norway and now northern Norway. This Jektefartsmuseet was built quite literally around the partially-original partially-renovated standing ship “Anna Karoline” from 1876 to honour the coastal trade of fish and other products up and down the coastline from northern Norway to Bergen. Makes me think how we have something SO utterly unique and precious as inuit mummies, even still with visible skin markings (what most westernised cultures call #tattoos”), from Uunartoq Island in South Greenland and yet it’s a monstrous continuous heated debate of whether or not they can be brought home 🤯 True, we don’t have the right preservation facilities right now to house them, but why not think one cm outside the box and say hey, here’s an idea, let’s CREATE a museum facility specifically for them!! (21 May 2024) Norwegian salmon in the making down there 👀 Each ring holds about 200.000 salmon, so that’s a cool 2,4 million fish you’re looking at in those 12 rings combined, which is just one fish farm out of who knows how many all throughout Norway 😱 Fun fact, they use lumpfish (i.e. something we in Greenland think of as a springtime delicacy, especially the roe) as a “servant” cleaner fish to eat the bacteria or pests or whatever off of the salmon 🥵 And for every 100 salmon there’s 15 lumpfish. So there’s also 360.000 lumpfish down there being used to service the farmed fish, instead of being eaten for the delicacy they themselves are 🥹🥹 All I can think of is allll that caviar right now in the season where we didn’t get so much here in South Greenland due to incredible amounts of Sikorsuit sea ice that didn’t give our fishermen much chance to get out in the fjord. Curly/Wavy Hair Story!! Who else feels the same? You need a haircut, you go to your favorite hairdresser.. You have found him after extensive research.. He does what he does best.. He understands your needs, cuts the way you want, keeps the length exactly what you mention.. he sets it beautifully, you thank him profusely because you feel lucky to have him.. You come home and can't stop looking at the mirror, can't stop caressing your hair because obviously you got what you paid the premium charges for, take pictures in different angles which you plan to use for quite some time.. And the next day, Or whenever, you wash your hair.. You know what's going to happen, still you have to take a bath, you have to shampoo, hoping it would look as beautiful as freshly set, although you know that's not going to happen.. You come out of the bath, dry your hair and immediately hate your hairdresser.. Why? Because it doesn't look what you thought it would when you explained to him what you needed.. And for the next few days you keep cursing him, hating him more from the bottom of your heart and even contemplating going to another hairdresser and getting it right.. You are ready to pay the extra money but don't act on it only because you don't want to stress your bank account, you can pay again but common, you are not that rich.. In a week's time your hair starts setting into its own character, starts looking like what you wanted all along.. You stop hating the hairdresser.. In the next few days when your curls start behaving the way you want them to, you in fact realize why you keep going back to the same person over and over again.. You start realizing again why his price is what it is, you start appreciating his expertise.. And you promise to yourself to go back to him even if you move somewhere else.. Next we toured a cistern built in the 5th Century made to collect water. The engineering has withstood many earthquakes and only had some minor restorations done over the years. Busy Saturday. Started with @grit60pines . Then zumba with @yudychocolate. Celebrated with @xiomaravargas23 for her baby shower. Got to see my girl @3brendas. Miss her so much. Got home to a house full of crazy family fun. We were singing songs from Bad Bunny and other amazing Latin singers to Miley Cirus and Justin Beiber. We laughed and had a great pool party. I did it. 🍾🍾🍾 More than 6 months ago, my journey began in Melbourne, and now I’m in Cairns at the other end of the east coast, struggling to find the right words. More than a month of road tripping with the guys, 3 months as an au pair, 2 months as a demi au pair, and in the meantime working as a waitress, cleaner, barista, and bartender, just to finally be able to chase my dreams again in the end. My whole life has completely changed within half a year, and at the moment, I’m not entirely sure which parts were good or less good. But in the end, all the beautiful memories count, and that I saw it through to the end, right? Last week, I even checked off a big item on my list of dreams, which was ‚to be happy,‘ and I’m 100% sure that the highs and lows of the past months played a part in it and it wasn’t just about completing my diving certification at the Great Barrier Reef! Things I have learned in the past months and now know for the future are the following: 1. No matter how well I get along with Person X at home, it doesn’t mean that Person X and I are made to travel together, and that’s totally okay. It doesn’t mean the end of our friendship! 2. To avoid becoming an asshole boss, I want to work in a low-paying job for at least 1, 2, or 3 months every few years to stay grounded! (Can someone explain to me when people forget where they came from and start treating their employees badly?!?!?!) 3. I will never clean for other people again! Everyone can clean up their own mess :-) 4. Not everyone who smiles in my face has good intentions! 5. I will stop focusing on the negative and look at the wonderful people who dry my tears, listen to me, and bring a smile to my face. 6. The greatest punishment is kindness; only in this way do I leave a lasting impression. ⬇️ continued in the comments! ⬇️

Flying into Greece the jet lag started to settle in so yesterday was a mix of getting to our Airbnb, getting some amazing Greek food, and getting some sleep. Woke up late today and had a wonderful breakfast and started with a tour of the Acropolis Museum. One of my favorite things was seeing how they transformed marble to look like flowing crepe material in a dress (see last pic) also toured some ruins. Greece is a mixture of old and new. #GirlOnTheGo
