Last week we reached a beautiful milestone in the story of “Anna Tova and the 200!” We have set up some alternative livelihoods for the Ildepen Women’s group that we helped form with Anna Tova and at a community meeting held at the Tree Nursery we sat down with the leaders and it’s most of its members to discuss coexistence between wildlife and people and development ideas the women have as well as economic empowerment. And behind the table was food for 135 women but our CEO @itspetermoll put it very clearly: “this food is not a donation, this food is a story of success of your work in this nursery, your leaders used some of the money made from the nursery to buy all you members food” This alone is the success of Anna Tovas story and we are so proud of her standing up many months ago and saying “we women are oppressed and we know we can do more! When you empower us, the money shall reach the home!” These milestones keep us going as young leaders trying to make a difference for people and nature ❤️🙏🐘💯 #Olchani #TreesForPeople #PeopleAndNature #ImprovedLivelihoods #PoweredByConservation #DignityProjects #AdoptAPark #Ildepen #AnnaTova #Amboseli #Livelihoods

Last week our field officer Elijah Baffour Gyamfi (left) visited AKWASI Owusu, a cocoa farmer from Daban, in the Ashanti Bekwai region of Ghana 🇬🇭 Over the course of two hours, Elijah toured Mr Owusu’s 4.3-acre farm to perform an assessment and support him with individualised coaching. The visit showed several areas for improvement: 🪚 The farm should be pruned 🗑 Diseased cocoa pods should be removed and disposed of appropriately 🐓 Fertiliser should be applied  🌳 Cocoa and shade tree seedlings should be planted.  All the activities come together to form an individualised Farm Development Plan which shows what needs to be done, and where and when to undertake each activity. Mr Owusu is very keen to follow his plan, and in the coming months, Elijah will conduct follow-up visits to help and support him. These visits are part of our extensive ‘Cocoaching’ activities across all our cocoa-origin countries. Individualised coaching is designed to help our farmers achieve higher yields through good agricultural practices. #sustainability #cocoa #coaching #improvedlivelihoods #cocoaching #goodagriculturalpractices #farmers #increasedproductivity

Delivering plastic to Eco Brixs gets Prossy, a Resource Recovery Agent in Kisubi, 40,000 UGX every week. Along with cleaning clothes for her neighbors, she does this for extra money. In addition to starting the market, Eco Brix was able to acquire her a recipe book and weighing scale. Prossy has expanded her plastic trading business as an entrepreneur by purchasing plastic from others. #greenjobs #financialfreedom #financialindependence #improvedlivelihoods #InvestInWomen #WomenInclusion #plasticwasteforcash #AccelerateProgress #IWD2024 #IWD       #IWD24

The Story of Nankinyi and the classroom under a tree continues. Nankinyi stood in the gap and we stood with her. As we launched the two founding classrooms with cheers and celebrations from the community and the loudest being the mothers, there was a deep sense of appreciation and more so a wave of hope spreading like wildfire through out the community that saw a simple launch turn into a testimony and breakthroughs for Nankinyi, her community and the future generations. The schools founding two classrooms were launched in memory of our CEOs Grandmother (Cucu) Nancy Gacheke Moll; but during the launch and festivities the community declared the school should be named after her and in these declarations a senior Chief stood up to present the community with a letter confirming the land is for a school and going further in committing to get the title deed and that SUSO and the community should hold each others hands and develop the entire school to their hearts desires 🥹🙏🙌 #YearOfTheRoots #Loolepo #Education #school #imbirikani #Amboseli #Ikoroshoni #WomenLeaders #communityDevelopment #PrimarySchool #ECDE #DignityProjects #improvedlivelihoods #poweredByConservation

ENHANCE LIVELIHOODS For many families in Masaka Ugandan recycling plastic garbage is a game Changer. Our collectors are hand - to- mouth workers. Food is not on their tables on days when they choose not to collect plastic waste. Thanks to Our fast pay concept and good buying plastic garbage rates, our collectors are now returning home grinning broadly. The Story of Nankinyi and the classroom under the tree. At one of our community meetings where we listen to our coexistence champions in different areas surrounding amboseli national park in the aim of promoting coexistence between people and wildlife by dignifying the communities, giving them respect and empowerment they deserve and in turn they protect wildlife, we met a women leader from Ikoroshoni, namelock called Nankinyi. She stood up and told us about her women group, how they cook at a school and how they have a cooking business (cooking at events and community functions), one of the other community leaders called Luka also stood up to tell us about the said school. We later came to understand that the school is under a tree with a couple of benches, and that this school wasn’t just a makeshift but was demarcated by the Imbirikani Group Ranch where they set aside 5 acres for a school. Nankinyi stood firm for the future of this school, especially because the land has the blessing of the group ranch and is well planned for; we saw the strength in Nankinyi and the conviction to see more done and the passion and will power to stand in the gap, so we asked ourselves, who are we not to stand along side her. Stay tuned for the journey that unfolded. #DignityProjects #ImprovedLivelihoods #School #classroomUnderATree #inkoroshoni #Namelock #Imbirikani #amboseli #education #learning #dignityforcommunities #protectionForWildlife
