National Plant a Flower Day - so why is that important? The Super Kids vs the Green Monster story is a great way to get the conversation started about the importance of plants to our Earth. This series focuses on environmental awareness and eco-footprints. It was part of the Kindness Kangaroo Project so I worked with a classroom of kids to get their ideas about how to help keep the Earth green, the importance of plants and what we can teach the green monster to make him more environmentally aware. Their ideas were used to inspire the story and their drawings provided the illustrations to finish the book! The cover was drawn by 10 year-old Norah. While on our hike yesterday guys.. we… we saw a monster. It was pretty scary. Y’all be careful while hiking! Stop littering y’all! We only have one planet. One single place to call home. As Humpty continued his rampage, he began to realize that his actions were not solving anything. SO Humpty Decided to have conversation with the mayor and taking strict actions to make a law for green felling shows his commitment to ensuring that the forest remains protected. By using peaceful means and communication, he was able to create a lasting solution that benefited both humans and animals alike. So, he went to the leaders of the human settlement and spoke to them. He explained the importance of the forest and how their actions were harming the ecosystem. They listened to him and promised to stop the destruction. Humpty then took it a step further and worked with the mayor to create a law for green felling, ensuring that the forest would remain protected for years to come. With that, Humpty's anger subsided, and he returned to his cave, happy that he had made a difference. From that day on, the forest was protected, and the animals and humans coexisted peacefully. Humpty had learned that violence was not the answer and that communication was key to finding a solution. On Friday, the 13th of May 2022, the administration of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Nsukka, the Rotaract club of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Plogging Nigeria, UNN embarked on a tree planting project within the school community. A total of 92 trees were planted, 47 Ornamental Palm trees and 45 masquerade trees. Each person was encouraged to plant and name their tree in order to encourage them check on theirs and be involved in the long haul. In attendance was Prof. Godswill Chukwunonso (Dept. of Plant science and Biotechnology), Mr. Laz Okeke (SSA to the Vice Chancellor), Mr. Paul Oranu (ICT Director) amongst other notable personalities. #keeptheearthgreen #supportingtheenvironment #peopleofaction
