❗ The price for a single prescription item in England has risen from £9.65 to £9.90 as of today. We don't think the prescriptions system is fair - prescriptions are free if you live in Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland but if you live in England then you have to pay (unless you are exempt). 👀 Not only that, but chronic kidney disease (CKD) is not on the exemptions list, and the list has not been reviewed or changed in over 60 years. 🩸 Kidney transplant patients are to get blood matched for white blood cells, with the intention of reducing kidney transplant rejection. Click the link in our bio to read more about this news on our website. 📣 The announcement comes as the wait for kidney transplants is at a ten-year high, with 5,870 people in the UK on the waiting list at the end of March. If the pilot proves successful and a national matching programme is rolled out, it could cut the time people spend on the waiting list. 🗨️ Fiona Loud, Policy Director at Kidney Care UK, said: “Receiving a transplant and then maintaining one for as long as possible is so important for people with kidney failure. Waiting for a transplant is incredibly hard and those with greater antibody sensitisation can wait even longer. Organ rejection is a huge concern for people who have had a transplant, and this pilot will give them the hope of longevity."

❗The government have announced a spring booster Covid-19 vaccine will be offered to the following groups later in April 2024: ▶️ adults aged 75 years and over ▶️ residents in a care home for older adults ▶️ individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed 📩 Eligible people will be sent an invitation to book a booster, with details on how they can get the vaccine. It’s been a wonderful birthday today. We had lunch at Sugars BBQ in Chattanooga, hung out with Buc-ee in Calhoun, GA, had dinner at Corazón in Marietta and all the other fun stuff. 44 years. I’ve learned a lot in the last few months. Those that love you will show you and tell you. They’ll show up for you no matter what. Hugs are best given and received. Everyone is super special and important and we don’t all come from a cookie cutter of society standards. Health isn’t guaranteed from one moment to the next. Do the things you want to do now, physically and otherwise, so you don’t have to look back and say, “I wish I would have...” Don’t be so bothered by the opinions, true or false, of others…the ones who love you will love you no matter what, skinny, fat, short, tall, red, yellow, blue, green, smart, ditzy, it doesn’t matter. Take in every moment and cherish it. Another day with the same circumstances may never come again. Family is Family and there are people who will walk into your life and be family you never knew you needed. I don’t know much about how this world works but I know it’s not always fair and that means you’re going to get screwed sometimes. Don’t let that define you, my screwed up past has been my identity for far too long, I’d given control to those who did the screwing when I should have made a Screwdriver and said “Cheers!” with a flock of birds. It’s time to embrace the fun, my favorite color (right now), family, friends and take each day as it comes. Much love to everyone who’s loved and supported me. Imagine having just weeks, days or hours to process the news that you will be reliant on dialysis to stay alive. That you will need to spend four hours at a time, three times a week attached to machines and that you could feel wiped out after each session. It could impact your ability to work, socialise, enjoy family life. Our recent survey showed ‘crashlanding’ is the worst way to begin dialysis treatment, which is why we’re calling for more investment in earlier detection so we can intervene earlier and prevent more peoples’ kidneys failing. In time, these cells form a mass called a tumor. Cancer begins when something triggers a change in the cells, and they divide out of control.” “A cancerous or malignant tumor can spread to other tissues and vital organs. When this happens, it’s called metastasis.” WHO IT AFFECTS: It’s most common in people between the ages of 65 and 74. Men are twice as likely as women to develop the disease. PRIMARY CAUSES: The exact cause of kidney cancer is not known, but here are some risk factors that may increase your chances: — Smoking — High Blood Pressure — Family History — Obesity — Gene Changes (mutations) — Long-term Dialysis Treatment MANAGEMENT AND TREATMENT: The treatment depends on the stage and grade of the tumor, as well as the person’s age and overall health. Options include: — Surgery — Ablation (Sometimes, heat and cold can destroy cancer cells) — Radiation Therapy — Targeted Drug Therapy — Immunotherapy IS IT CURABLE?: “Like most cancers, kidney cancer is most treatable when found in its early stages. Like many people who answered our recent survey, Richard Curry was diagnosed too late to benefit from treatments or support to slow down the progression of his kidney disease, despite living with high blood pressure for three years before his diagnosis. Richard Curry, from Gateshead, was told that his high blood pressure was probably down to his weight but after three years of trying to manage this, he was finally diagnosed with kidney disease. And worse news was to come, it was already at stage five, he was in kidney failure. Dialysis started almost immediately for Richard, 50, who was then a construction worker, leaving him with virtually no time to prepare. Not only did Richard lose his ability to work, his entire life was flipped upside down. He felt alone and isolated as nobody explained to him what his diagnosis meant. “I just thought ‘kidney transplant, diseases and dying,’” he remembers. “That's it. That’s what I thought until somebody actually sat down and told me what was going to happen. I didn’t know anything about kidneys or kidney disease. I was terrified at the time and all I thought was I’m going to die.” After a good conversation with his nurse, he felt more comfortable with his diagnosis and the treatment plan ahead of him, with the final goal of a transplant.
