It’s been 2 months now… 2 months ago I decided to use this oil…my nemesis oil!🤣 We had & YES you read that right, a love-hate relationship.💔 Yes you can heal from grief & loss. It’s a process that you’ll work thru the rest of your life. But it can be easier. To my friends that struggle to use an oil because of the way it makes you feel, there is hope. Joy oil used to make me ANGRY & I mean a real 🦀!🤣 (just ask Todd ) he’ll tell ya. But I’ve applied this oil everyday for 2 months now, on the inside of my wrists. What I’ve noticed is that I’m NOT nearly as emotional as I was…(hello thank you grief), I’m NOT angry & yes I know shocking!😮 All I can say is that I do NOT love this floral bottle of joy…but it’s helping me to heal. Reflecting on April and proud of myself that I am continuing to monitor my year in pixels. April on the whole has been a good month. In some ways quieter because of the school easter hols continuing after the bank holidays. That didn't mean a break from Guiding, as we have had a number of meetings each week planning the term and events. 💜 Lot more days feeling motivated. I know this is where I have been able to focus on something enjoyable or felt in control. I also have a clear plan of action for a number of things. 💜 There are some days where I was feeling tired. I think this is due to a lot going on in my head. 💜 Good things to happen this month was undertaking my MHFA Refresher course. 💜 Whilst I work from home majority of the time, I get a big boost by being around people. Grateful for the networking I do, especially those in person. 💜 There is a couple of days in yellow, unfortunately I had a cold, think I caught it from visiting the RNLI the Thursday before with guides. I will admit that sometimes I don’t always remember to do this each day, thankfully it is only a day or 2 that I miss, so I can easily recall my feelings. Anyone else doing a year in pixels? I’d love to see how your year is going so far.

✨ Let me level with you... Leaving the safe net isn't easy. The comfort of the known is way too tempting, even when it's not healthy for us. I get it, we'd rather "handle" that, than stepping into the unknown, because it would mean letting go of the little control that we think we have. Can you see how all that is a mind game run by fear? Can you see how we ourselves put our blinders on because we'd rather not face reality and change whatever we can to better ourselves? 🫣 For me, it was a sort of lesser evil to endure in jobs that didn't fulfill me. Don't get me wrong, I was good at them and that also helped me heal self-esteem issues I had. And I am now more confident because I took those steps. 💪 However, the feeling that the situation had run its course and that I had learned what I had to and it was time to move on kept buzzing in my ears... 🐝 So after reincorporating after a month of leave, I could not unsee it any longer: It was time to let that go. And let me tell you... The moment I handled my resignation letter I was enveloped by such a peaceful feeling... 🧘‍♂️ Turning around and staring into an ocean of possibilities, and being more than ready to take the plunge... So time to take a deep breath... And... 🏄

What are the emotions you notice feeling the most? If you had to choose 5 to 8 emotions that you most commonly feel in your day to day life what would they be? Before you reflect I’m going to lay down one rule - You aren’t allowed to choose happy, mad or sad. Why? - because often we use those as a catch all for more granular emotions underneath, and understanding the granularity of your emotions is truly important to understand where you are at and what you need. Take a look at the feelings wheel image below that might give you some ideas. Feel free to add others if you can’t find the emotions on there (there are many more). Here are mine 😍LOVE 🤔SELF DOUBT 🤩INSPIRED 🙏GRATEFUL 🤝CONNECTED 🥰APPRECIATED 😳WORRIED 😌CONTENTMENT It took me some deep reflection to really come up with these. Sometimes we need to check in on the emotional climate of our lives to appreciate where we are at, how far we’ve come and / or get intentional about how we want to feel in the future. I also reflected on other emotions I’d like to feel more of like: joyful, spontaneous, daring and attentive ….and also considered actions I can take to cultivate those. This reflection exercise reminds me of how much influence I actually have over my emotional weather pattern and also potentially prepares me for stormy seasons that may lay ahead. An emotional climate check in is a great boost to keep you aware of where you are at, how far you’ve come, what shifts you may want to make and what you need to resource yourself with to be prepared for the weather ahead. Do you release anger or hold on to it? Let’s talk about this. Let’s imagine a pile up - a mountain of stuff that you are suppressing inside of you that you keep hidden. People attack you and things keep happening, but you are nice. You are a people pleaser. You stay quiet. You don’t want conflict. You don’t want to fight, so this keeps piling up. Then, like a mountain, the volcano erupts and it is great when it does because you finally let it all out. You don’t have to do it in front of the people, but you do have to release it. You do have to vocalize it. Writing is great, but the physical release of it all is a healing process. It is fantastic if you have a safe space where you can just release it. It is like “poof” - you cleaned out all the stuck energy that has been built up over the years. It is like you had a workout. All of it is below the surface. Don’t be afraid of anger. Let it out. Sadness and “just surviving” is the lowest energy. Anger and expressing it is the second level. It is the level of action. It is movement energy. It moves it from mental to actually physical. You release the energy through your throat chakra, which is where your emotional needs are stuck and it is attached to the heart. You are not a bad person if you have pent up anger/frustration, but keeping it in is making you sick. Find a healthy outlet and express it. Say I am going to take it all out and by 6pm I am done. All our emotions need to be expressed. There are no good or bad ones. They are just emotions. My grandma had told me that when I was 4-6 years old I’d go around saying “Ana does it on her own”. Anything that needed to be done I didn’t need help. And my family thought it was so cute how I was so independent. But what I was, was that the adverse childhood experiences had left me betrayed, let down, abandoned. I still to this day, struggle with trust. And this is why i make a big deal out of things and overthink when I do end up trusting, because it’s so fragile for me. Trusting somebody actually unbalances me. And then my nervous system gets dysregulated, and i’m in hyper arousal, and it just turns into a big somatic mess. I have no problem sharing this because I want you to understand that I don’t preach from a pedastal and that even with all my professional knowledge and abundant personal growth, some things still take work for me. I too am in the trenches as some spots are still very sensitive. And that’s okay. As long as I keep on trying. You’re not alone. Hand in hand 🤝 we got this. Growing up in a family that refused to deal with uncomfortable truths and swept everything wrong under the rug set me on a mission early on to feel and face everything they wouldn’t. I became hell-bent on diving into the pain I’d collected from childhood, because it seemed like the way through. If I could get earnest and honest and real about the anger, the grief, the fear, about ALL the feelings that had gone unacknowledged, if I could fully FEEL it, it could heal it…right? What I didn’t understand—nor did anyone I sought help from for years and years—was that continuing to mine the depths of my trauma while having virtually no capacity in my highly dysregulated nervous system to truly *hold* all the pain coursing through me wasn’t healing anything. I could ENDURE the experience of feeling panic and terror and inconsolable sadness for hours on end, but I was literally just looping through dysregulated states over and over to exhaustion; I didn’t have the safety and containment necessary for any of it to transform. It wasn’t until I started understanding my nervous system’s need for real, embodied regulation and safety that change slowly began to happen. We don’t have to be anywhere NEAR perfectly “regulated” in order to feel our pain in a productive way, but we absolutely need to have ENOUGH of a physiological foothold in autonomic safety for some degree of processing and integration of trauma to occur. The slow, steady work of building safety in our body and nervous system over time is what makes this possible, and that’s what I’m teaching in Embodied Resource. Want the details? The “Cowardly Lion” wanted so much to be brave and to ask the wizard for courage…courage so he could be the lion he was always told he should be. He was embarrassed of his fear. He hid behind his tail when tearing up. He believed he should be different than he was. He was raised to believe he was the “cowardly lion” and internalized that judgement of himself. He had been told his whole life that he was different..not “lion-y” enough. He had spent his life hiding his fear and vulnerable emotions to fit in to what was expected of a lion. When The Wizard of Oz told the “cowardly” lion that he already had courage inside of him, the lion was shocked. This conflicted with everything he had been taught about himself. What he didn’t realize, and couldn’t see, is that he was already brave, in a way that other lions weren’t. He was a lion who stood up for what he believed in, pursued his dreams even when it seemed impossible, protecting others from danger even in the face of his own fear. He was able to form connections - which couldn’t happen if he was a typical lion; he was able to feel love - which couldn’t happen if he was a typical lion. He was able to ask for what he needed, even when embarrassed to do so. Men have been taught to hide their fear, hide their tears, be strong and model this to their sons. These expectations are passed down and are now starting to be challenged. Challenged by brave dudes - like this guy. This guy is changing the world by his example and courage. In childhood, we all possess innate sensitivity, but adults frequently dismiss our emotions, leading us to gradually disconnect from our sensitivity. Moreover, societal norms encourage maintaining a facade of unwavering strength, disregarding those who battle depression in private. In a world where emotional suppression is prevalent, sensitivity is truly a gift. It indicates a profound connection with oneself and one’s body, a rarity in societal pressures. Therefore, it’s crucial to honor our sensitivity, our capacity to feel and empathize. I was humbled this week by the incredible duality of life.  I was in the middle of being on a high after just receiving the drafts of the Scrumptiousness Journal for the 7 Days of Scrumptiousness Experience next week.  Feeling excited and filled up, admiring the beauty of the work!  As I was in the midst of feeling into all of this, I received news that someone I knew had committed suicide.  A person who had been in some of my containers before, and created some AI images for me.  At first my mind tried to rationalise it, yet a bit later my body began to shake and my voice trembled as I spoke to my mentor. Overcome with the emotional shock and grief. So many atrocities are happening in the world and yet there are such deep moments of delicious connection. The duality of being in all these states at the same time was so beautiful to experience.  To me, this is what SCRUMPTIOUSNESS is.  It is having access to feeling it ALL.  Having complete access to all of you.  The grief, the excitement, the sorrow, the joy. Do you talk to your emotions..? It might seem a bit odd, but acknowledging your emotions and then getting curious about them is a really helpful tool! When you feel a certain way ask yourself why do I feel this way right now? What is actually making me angry/upset/overwhelmed? When you dig deep and get to the root of the cause, you can create change! Top tip: the cause will always come back to you. For example 👉🏻 being angry at other drivers on your way to pick the kids up from school. That anger could be coming from the fact that you set off later than you anticipated or you didn’t account for the traffic. The root cause of your anger is at yourself for being late and not being more prepared with your time management. When other people in your life, like your kids, or maybe your partner, are being a certain type of way and you’re not sure what’s going on. Ask the question.. what are you feeling right now? Depending on the age of your child, they might not be able to answer or may not be able to explain their emotion. And that’s where it’s up to you to ask the questions.. what could be causing them to feel out of sorts or what might seem like ‘misbehaving’? Are they hungry? Are they tired? Are they teething? Are they feeling a new emotion that they don’t know how to cope with? Are they lacking understanding as to why they need to leave the park? When we have an understanding of our emotions we can move forward positively and when we try to connect to the emotions of those around us on a deeper level, it can help us gain perspective and become more understanding. 🩷
