A couple more images of this gorgeous bird that we had the privilege to see. Last year we saw a documentary on Netflix that described and studied Australia’s ocean current. One of the episodes was on the Daintree rainforest and they shared a beautiful clip on the life and behaviour of this mysterious bird; how its purpose is highly essential for the rainforest’s ecosystem and why their relationship is so fragile… We were so intrigued with that particular episode, that we decided to visit the forest and try our luck in spotting this wonderful bird. It started with a rumble. A roar in the distance. Deep in the Daintree the water flows swiftly, tumbling sleeping stones from their beds. Like Alice through the looking glass I was lost in a world, strange and alluring. It is now but a beautiful memory. Or was it a dream? This painting is my perspective of the ancient landscape in Far North Queensland at Mossman Gorge. I spent a day walking through the Daintree, observing the light, breathing in the smell of the rainforest and listening to the sounds of the water rushing through the gorge. Painted in my studio from memory, I layered and scraped the oil paint waiting for the scene to reveal itself. Placing fragments of memory on the canvas until the marks tumbled together and a re- imagined landscape floated to the surface. It is lovely to see this artwork featured on the catalogue of the Emerging Artists Award CPG Exhibition. The Daintree Rainforest was our next stop. We drove there from a Cairns. Took the car ferry across the Daintree River (see video)Usually it is only a couple hour drive, but with all the construction it took more like 3 hours. The roads were just recently opened back up and you can still only go so far before the roads are still blocked. The cyclone that hit the area did and incredible amount of damage to the area. While in the Daintree Rainforest we were lucky enough to spot a few things. 1. The highly endangered Southern cassowary. What a wonderful creature to be able to see in the wild. He was just walking around. We got photos and videos of him as well. 2. We saw a golden orb weaver. He was about 10-12” wide. Very neat to see. It wouldn’t have been if I had walked into him accidentally I can guarantee that. Then I would have freaked out. I surely can’t imagine spotting one of those in my house 😳. 3. Lots of different types of crabs around ponds and water. 4. Cape Tribulation. Where the reef meets the rainforest. A very neat place. This is as far as you can currently go into the rainforest at this time. 5. We also stopped at Mossman Gorge. Mossman Gorge, Australia 🇦🇺 Nous avons construit notre voyage en fonction des rencontres. Après avoir terminé notre tour de bateau, nous rencontrons un jeune français venu pour créer un reportage sur la région de Daintree. À travers la discussion, il nous convint (cela n’a pas été difficile ☺️) d’aller faire un tour à Mossman Gorge. Ni une ni deux, nous y voilà, prêts à randonner dans cette majestueuse forêt. Cela a été notre 1Ere grande bouffée d’air du voyage (pour nous qui venons de Singapour…) Tu peux soit faire la randonnée par toi même, soit la faire avec un guide. On a choisi d’y aller entre nous mais nous avons pris le bus qui nous a approcher du point de départ. Un conseil, prend le bus, bien plus rapide et surtout la marche à pieds jusqu’au point de départ, n’a aucun intérêt. Nous avons du randonnée pendant environ 2 heures, une randonnée réputée pour son pont suspendu, mais tu pourras observer de belles gorges, une randonnée dans la forêt tropicale la@plus ancienne du monde (environ 130 millions d’années) et surtout rencontrer de belles bêtes comme des araignées gigantesques (beurk) qui ont la taille de la paume de ma main 🕷️ ! Last week I guided a school group up to the Daintree Rainforest as part of their ‘Eco systems at risk’ geography field studies; we visited Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, stayed where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef, ran some pretty heated group debates, saw crocodiles, ate good food, played coconut bowling on the beach, learnt new facts.. but the real highlight was being able to be part of the longer term JCU rainforest research project, and the opportunity to see the rainforest canopy from a totally new perspective! 😍🏗️ The research crane is specifically for @jamescookuniversity students and research groups to study the rainforest canopy. I didn’t know it existed until a few weeks before hand, and I felt super lucky to have been able to see the rainforest from a totally new perspective 🦅 🙏🏽 🌴 I’ve guided some really cool group itineraries over the last few years here in Cairns 🚌 But these two days were up there with some of my favourites! ~ Daintree rainforest + Mossman gorge ~ 🌿 in de ochtend straalde de zon enorm dus wandelde we even naar het strand waar Amir mooie beelden met de drone maakte. Dit is de enige plek ter wereld waar 2 UNESCO gebieden naast elkaar liggen; Daintree rainforest en het Great barrier reef De kids genoten ervan om even samen te spelen met de kinderen van @travellikeabosch Maar als snel sloeg het weer om en moesten we weer schuilen voor de regen 🌧 🌱 we reden toen direct door naar Mossman gorge en maakten er een hele mooie wandeling van iets meer dan 4km in totaal. Onderweg begon het heel hard te regenen en het grappige was dat we voor 1x de jassen in de auto hadden laten liggen, althans toch die van ons. Die van de kinderen had ik gelukkig wel mee 😅 we wandelden naar het water, over de brug, door kleine kreekjes, door het regenwoud. Zeker de moeite waard om een stop te maken. 🌊 we maakten nog een korte stop aan Palm cove om de mooie stranden daar te zien, maar het weer dacht er anders over 🙄 #dag120 #roadtripaustralia #daintreerainforest #mossmangorge #reizenmetkinderen
