So….yesterday I moseyed out to the FIRST Blk Barn event in Georgetown, a makers market hosted by @allblkmadeevents and this time, I was just a consumer rather than a vendor‼️ And, let me just tell you first that @tacobossaustin put they foot in their everything loaded nachos ‼️ (That’s not a typo—that’s the VOICE those nachos had me in‼️😋😋😋 Look—I went to sit in my car to eat those yummies in private‼️😂 They skimped on nothing, ya hear me?‼️ You see that cheese on my face and décolletage?‼️ 😋😋 These cheesy flavorful nachos had all the meats, and ALL the meats were seasoned just right‼️🔥 Carnitas, beef and chicken‼️ A teen in the late 80s and early 90s has me hooked on the big earrings; however, at this point in my life, I can only do big if they are lightweight. And, I am happy to have found at the Blk Barn event, the pictured earrings that meet my lightweight expectations‼️ Only thing is, I didn’t get the young man’s business information, so maybe y’all can help me with that and I can shout him out. He wore African tribal gauges in his own ears, if that helps. A couple of years ago, I wrote a poem entitled “Yoga in the Park,” which is on page 283 of my new book, “Silence of My Inceptive Self,” after an experience doing yoga in an Austin park with black women. My experience last Saturday with black women surrounding me on the library walls, the beautiful portraits @letakphotography captured for her groundbreaking exhibit, “Black Girls Don’t Wear Red Lipstick” and with black women around me—their very essence and presence providing safety and support and comfort and connection—doing yoga lead by a black woman and skincare session also lead by a black woman was a vibe. I love all people, but y’all, there’s something about seeing your people, my people, doing things that just does something to the spirit, my spirit, especially when there have been so many concerted efforts to diminish the things that my people have done. If you can, check out the exhibit this weekend before it closes. Remember that Leta is the first black woman to exhibit there. Check out @allureyogaaustin Allure Yoga—that yoga flow was flowin’. Colman Domingo was great as Bayard Rustin in “Rustin.” I was last year years old when I learned of Rustin. There’s a bitter sweetness to that. And also a notion of it’s never too late to learn new things, along with seek the truth. I hope Mr. Domingo wins big for this role. I love this quote from Rustin, whose story resulted in legacy and legendary results. No matter what the history books say, we are legendary, our story runs deeper wider brighter and broader than landing of the shores of this country and chains. Happy birthday, Rev. I know that most creative people have are creative souls. They are creative in multiple ways and need a creative outlet in order to breathe. In addition to my writing, I crochet hats. I have a piano that I would like to get back to use to learning how to play the piano well. I have enjoyed dabbling and decorating cakes. I am far from any good at that, but it’s fun! This weekend I was being a good writer by listening to writers discuss their craft. I was also being a writer by being good reader who snagged a few new books to get into! This is my inspiration for the logo of my company Smittyville LLC which published my new book, Silence of My Inceptive Self. My daddy (pictured) was career Air Force and passed of colon cancer in his 40s, shortly after he retired from the Air Force. His birthday is next week, so I will be posting again to honor him. I don’t ever want to forget his sacrifice to our country and for my family. My logo allows me to feel as though he’s with me on my author journey, which as far as I can remember, began on my back porch of our house on Clark Air Force Base, Philippines.
