Introducing Danielle DiCorcia, an early childhood education major who is also in the 4+1 master of special education program. Throughout her time here at Framingham State she has learned the importance of being a responsive teacher since each student has different abilities. Danielle is currently working as a preschool teacher at Boston Children's Hospital but in the future she sees herself working in a public school. Danielle’s advice to fellow Education Department Students is, “to be that memorable teacher you had or wish you had when you were younger. I truly believe that most students have a favorite teacher or a teacher they remember from their early years of school. Showing up for my students even when I'm not feeling my best. 😓 I woke up with a terrible headache that day but knew my class would be eagerly waiting for me. Teaching isn't just about the content, it's also about being present and reliable for those who are learning. There's so much students can't see about the personal struggles educators face. Late nights grading, preparing materials, handling administrative tasks on top of our own lives. But we show up with smiles on our faces, ready to support their growth and discovery. They don’t get distracted by other students or things they need to do. The Unsung Strength of Educators in Trying Times The past three years have tested us in countless ways, stretching our resilience and revealing the true mettle of various professionals. Today, I want to shed light on the mental toll it has taken on educators by sharing a snippet from my journey. During the height of the pandemic, I was sick with COVID while caring for two family members battling the virus. Despite the physical exhaustion and emotional upheaval, I opened my laptop every day, committed to imparting knowledge and comforting my students through their own challenges. Imagine the weight of managing lessons while juggling the anxieties of personal health and the well-being of loved ones. This story is familiar to many teachers who grappled with the twin responsibilities of educating young minds and managing their mental and physical health. As we move forward, let's take a moment to recognise the extraordinary efforts of our educators. The virtual or physical classroom has often been a sanctuary for many, but the individuals leading it are not invincible. They, too, need support, understanding, and avenues to address their mental health.
