Mate. This place took my breath away. Looking at the size of this WOW 🤯🤯 This was located at the southern tip of Egypt, literally next to Sudan. Why was this built? The twin temples were built to serve as a lasting monument to Ramses II (which was a known womaniser at his time) and his queen Nefertari, and commemorate his victory at the Battle of Kadesh. He also built a temple for the love of his life - Queen Nefertari, which I’ll show later post. Le grand Temple d'Abou Simbel ! 🇪🇬☀️ C'est la toute première visite que l'on a fait en Egypte et juste waouh ! 😍 Ce temple fut construit par Ramsès II au 13ème siècle, en l'honneur des dieux égyptiens et de la bataille de Qadesh. Autrement dit, cette beauté à plus de 700 ans ! C'est fou ! 🤯 Et fait surprenant sur ce temple : il fut entièrement déplacé, pierre par pierre, de quelques kilomètres dans les années 1960, afin de le préserver de la montée des eaux. C'est incroyable non ?!? Forcément, il s'agit d'un lieu très touristique d'Egypte. Pour notre part, on l'a visité un mercredi, à l'ouverture, au levé du soleil, à 7h du matin. Il y avait pas mal de touristes présents qui venaient assister à ce spectacle. Et il faut savoir qu'autour de mars, l'alignement du soleil fait que les rayons entrent jusqu'au fond du temple et viennent éclairer les 4 statues des dieux égyptiens qui s'y trouvent. Honnêtement, si on est un peu patient, au bout d'1 heure, la plupart des touristes repartent et on se retrouve seul dans ce lieux incroyable, à profiter et à en prendre plein les yeux ! Si jamais, pour que vous ayez une vue d'ensemble, nos amis de @unmonde2reves, qui étaient également en Egypte il n'y a pas longtemps on fait le choix de visiter le temple plutôt sur la fin de journée. Beaucoup moins de touristes et une lumière très belle sur la façade extérieure du temple aussi. On pense qu'il n'y a pas réellement de mauvais choix, le tout c'est d'y aller et de ne surtout pas passer à côté de ce lieux époustouflant ! #abusimbel #Egypte #egypt #Aswan #photography #Ramses

De ideale manier om de tempels in de Nijlvallei te bezoeken is via een Nijlcruise! Daar staan veel bekende tempels, zoals de beroemde tempels van Luxor, Karnak, Edfu, Esna, Philae, Kom Ombo en de enorme graftempel van koningin Hatsjepsoet. ⛵️ De farao liet de tempels bouwen met een hoofdrol voor religieuze rituelen. Voor de meeste Egyptenaren was de plaatselijke god in de tempel van hun woonplaats het belangrijkste opperwezen, maar zo nodig konden zij ook hulp inroepen van andere goden. Hier konden ze ´in contact treden´ met de goden en deze vereren. 🪐 De tempels van Abu Simbel zijn misschien de speciaalste. De tempels werden gebouwd in opdracht van de grootste farao aller tijden: Ramses II. Hij liet de tempels uit een berg hakken om zichzelf, de moedergod Hathor en zijn vrouw Nefertari te eren. Bezoekers van de tempel zullen onder de indruk zijn van de grootsheid van de tempel, wat ook precies zijn bedoeling moet geweest zijn. 🫅 In de jaren ´60 werden de tempels in stukken gezaagd en verplaatst! 🏗 Door de aanleg van de Aswandam dreigden de tempels namelijk onder water te lopen. Op een heuvel die 65 meter hoger ligt dan de plek waar de tempels werden ontdekt, zijn ze weer opgebouwd. 🧺 Sunday Bucket List ❓ Where's the next place on your bucket list? 👧 From the age of about 7 or 8 I became obsessed with ancient Egypt. As I prepared to turn 30 (a little lifetime ago) I got made the huge decision to treat myself to a visit to Egypt. 🎉 Spoiler Alert... it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I had an amazing 7 day cruise down the Nile taking in 12 temples. The cruise itself allowed me to sit and watch the banks of the Nile go past. 🚤 I learned 'La Shukran' which means no thank you in Arabic, this helped a lot with the hawkers. And this wasn't a perfect trip, I had days where I had a bad stomach, we broke down in a mini bus in the middle of the dessert, but ultimately what I remember from this trip is the awe and excitement of being somewhere I'd always dreamed of. This isn't necessarily an advert for Egypt (although I'd go back in an instant), more an advert to do that trip you have always wanted, to ask for holiday money for birthdays and Christmases, to make it happen any way you can. Uffff hoy fue un día súper especial. El Templo de Abu Simbel es IMPRESIONANTE. Su fachada imponente con Ramses II de más de 20 metros, el templo de Nefertari y Hathor igual de bello. Pero nada se compara con el interior, lleno de imágenes y jeroglíficos bien conservados, contando una historia que no entiendo pero puedo interpretar a medias y denotan poder, devoción, liderazgo y a la vez humildad. En medio del paseo es como que me llego todo, al poder tocar esas paredes contadoras de historias antiguas. No recuerdo haberme emocionado así de mucho últimamente. No era consciente de lo mucho mucho que iba a significar. Pero lo sentí y agradezco poder disfrutar de esto 🥰 Gracias Ramses por ser como fuiste a pesar de todo, y querer ostentar poder, haciendo estos templos en el sur. Temple of Queen Neferteri The most loved wife of King Ramses II, who was a very influential pharaoh and responsible for many iconic temples, obelisks, etc. This is located in Abu Simbel about 4 hours away from Aswan. I took public transportation and only paid 100 Egyptian pound which is about $2USD The organized trips only allowed folks to stay in the temple for 1.5 hours and back to Aswan which was a 4 hour ride. I thought that was ridiculous and decided to just go on my own. I stayed for 3 hours.
