Temple of Queen Neferteri The most loved wife of King Ramses II, who was a very influential pharaoh and responsible for many iconic temples, obelisks, etc. This is located in Abu Simbel about 4 hours away from Aswan. I took public transportation and only paid 100 Egyptian pound which is about $2USD The organized trips only allowed folks to stay in the temple for 1.5 hours and back to Aswan which was a 4 hour ride. I thought that was ridiculous and decided to just go on my own. I stayed for 3 hours. Recently, I watched the latest documentary on Frida Kahlo, and I must say, it’s my favorite one thus far. In honor of the documentary, here are some pictures from my 2020 visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum, La Casa Azul, and the first time I traveled to Mexico City. Mexico City wasn’t on my bucket list and I remember the lack of interest I had in visiting, but wanting to explore the house and neighborhood Frida grew up in. During that visit, I fell in love with Mexico City, returned, and ended up living there for some time. Be open, flexible, and curious! PS: In Picture #5, there is a frog-shaped urn. Apparently, it is where Frida’s ashes are. 📍Golden Sands Beach, Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire. 🗓 August 2019 Post in honour of my dog Hector today. He's not had a great time this past month and has to have an operation on his knee. Here is a throwback to him enjoying one of his favourite beaches. I wish he could run around like that now 😕. My cousin kindly let us rent her caravan on the nearby Haven site. The beach is in walking distance. Hector was in his element! I always say, that with being a chihuahua, he's a desert dog. He hates the water but loves the sand 🏜😁. I went swimming through this cenote-fed cave. ✨ Can you see the light at the back of the cave? That's where I went snorkelling! And it was one of my most magical moments in Mexico. The cave ceiling was adorned with hundreds of stalactites with cute little bats nestled between them - swipe to see a video of the bats flying around the entrance. Don't worry - they were friendly. (Creepy but cute is an aspirational vibe tbh. 🦇✨) While it was dark in sections and just moderately narrow, it was never scary. In fact, this unique cenote cave experience could only be described as relaxing. I’ve spent the past week in Skagway waiting for my ferry. I wasn’t planning on having this much time here but it was more than enough for me to explore and rest before my season starts next week. Lassen and I spent our days hiking some of the lower elevation trails (since the higher ones have ice that isn’t dog friendly), and I got the down time I needed to study some naturalist info for work, and recharge after almost a month of travel. The thing about this week was: I made it, but also our journey isn’t done yet. Today, we get on the ferry to Juneau and complete the last leg of this grand adventure. Take me out to the ball game! Go Tigers! I enjoy baseball but I LOVE spring training. It just hits different especially if you’re coming straight from a Midwest late winter to early spring in Florida. If you enjoy a more laid back game environment with reasonable ticket prices, spring training might be for you. It’s especially great for kiddos who aren’t quite ready for the hustle and bustle of a major league stadium yet but know enough to say they want to go to a game. Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland where the Tigers play has a giant berm in the outfield where you can sit and take in the game while letting the kids run around and enjoy the experience in an age appropriate way. Female travel in Türkiye. Let’s talk about it. To be completely honest, I was concerned. I had heard from other women that Türkiye was tough for solo female travellers. And after I had such a rough time in Morocco in 2019, I was hesitant to go on my own. That’s a big part of why I choose this destination to explore with @intrepidtravel . However, my assumptions could not have been more wrong. In my nearly 3 weeks here I haven’t been harassed or cat-called once. I’ve never felt unsafe. The most annoying thing is the carpet sellers but even then, the cheesiest line was asking if he could be Charlie since I was an angel. Not only do I feel safe, respected, and welcome here but I actually feel like the locals are looking out for me as a solo female traveller. Case in point: last week in Antalya I got up early to explore the old town with my camera. I stood outside Hadrian’s gate and was approached by a homeless man wanting cigarettes. Before I even had the chance to say no, I heard Turkish men yelling across the street. He quickly threw his hands up and backed away. I may not understand Turkish, but it was clear the other men told him to leave me alone. Nobody has ever stuck up for me like that anywhere. So ladies, if you are thinking of Türkiye as a travel destination but worried about harassment- don’t be. As always, use common sense. But, in my experience, you will be surprised- in the best way- at how you are treated here.
