The walls of @unionmarketdc are a canvas for many artists, including DC native @artgillumo. You'll find his signature artwork all over the area, some in plain sight, others hidden. A formerly blank stretch of space near Fifth and Neal Streets NE has been turned into a mini street gallery where you'll find a vibrant collection of his artwork. But beyond the walls of @noma.bid, his art has a deeper meaning. Inspired by his grandfather, who was blind, it has a braille-like quality that can be "visualized" by those in the community who blind or visually impaired. Music legend Stevie Wonder is a fan and collector of his work, as are comedian Kat Williams, and other celebrities. The serene classical Thomas Jefferson Memorial National Memorial honors the third president’s ideals of beauty, science, learning, culture, and liberty. Jefferson truly was a Renaissance man. He was fluent in six languages: Latin, Greek, French, Spanish, Italian, and Anglo-Saxon. He spent much time studying the natural sciences, ethnology, archaeology, agriculture, and meteorology. Jefferson was also a gifted architect, America’s first, according to some scholars. As American minister to France, he developed a love for the beauties of Classical architecture, as evidenced by two of his famous creations, Monticello and the University of Virginia. He almost single-handedly introduced the Neoclassical style to this country.
