I often relate to the sky element, but as I’m getting older I’m starting to look toward the earth element. I seem to gravitate towards uncertainty, change, and a bit of chaos in my life. I’m trying to change that. All and all, my colors are starting to be grounded, and I’m starting to become rooted. That is happiness to me.

“I want her to see how I feel.” - Brennan - This is Brennan. Brennan also has ADHD and was diagnosed as a young adult. I met Brennan through a friend, and he immediately agreed when I asked him if he was interested to be a part of this project. I had only met Brennan once before we had the actual shoot. Yet, we left as friends, knowing the other person can relate, they get you without having to explain, someone who embraces your different brain and behaviors, who you can laugh with about your ADHD quirks. Before our actual shoot that evening, we had a great conversation; talking about his life, his past and present. We connected! It feels so comforting to connect with someone who gets you without having to explain things that we ourselves sometimes can’t put into words. I believe that this type of deep connection can give us comfort and strength to continue on our own healing journey. When I told him that I was going to give him a print of the final image, he told me that he was going to give it to his mom. “It’s just part of my being.” - Susie - This is Susie. Susie is in her 60s and was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. I met her through a friend of mine, but had only seen her briefly twice before I actually got to photograph her. As part of each shoot, I sit down with my models and ask them about their ADHD. Susie spoke very openly and told me how her mom, who was a psychiatric nurse, was very supportive of her throughout her life. Her mom noticed early on that Susie was neurodivergent and got her the help she needed. Susie said that her mom never made her feel like the odd bird, like she was different. During our entire conversation Susie was so cheerful and happy. What stood out to me was how she doesn’t really perceive her ADHD as something negative. This is Helen. Helen has ADHD and was diagnosed as an adult, like me. I met Helen in the ADDCA life coaching program we took together in 2022. Being on the 8+ months journey together to become a certified life coach provided a strong foundation for our friendship. Helen lives in San Francisco, yet, we managed to meet up in person two years after we initially met in our first class zoom call. In between, we had many zoom calls, coaching each other, giving each other advice about our certification, asking questions, being there for each other… In fact, I remember one time in particular, when I called Helen, feeling beside myself because my emotions were totally out of balance (emotional dysregulation), feeling completely overwhelmed with a tough situation I was dealing with. I knew my amygdala had been hijacked (look it up… it’s a thing!), but I didn’t know how to find my way back. Calling her was the right thing to do. She knew and understood without me having to explain too much, without judgement she helped me work my way out of the emotional downward spiral to engage the logical part of my brain again. It’s moments like these that not only make a great coach, but a great friend. Chinatown, Singapore. (Part 1) Please scroll horizontally. A few days back, my brother told me my photos can be taken on a smart phone. I think it might be one of the best criticisms I have received because it made me think a lot on how to shoot in ways that phones cannot. Those words have pushed me much closer to developing my own style. I tried my new way of seeing tonight and took a few shots. I know how to improve on this, and I will.

This is my son Eric. 💛💚🩵🧡 Eric has ADHD, just like me. Eric wasn’t diagnosed until his early 20s. I myself was diagnosed only a couple of years ago. I often ask myself how much less critical and more understanding I could have been, if only I had known earlier. Yet here we are, and I couldn’t be more proud of the man Eric has become. He has grown into a wonderful young man who is funny, curious, smart, loyal and loving. For my project ‘May I Have Your Attention” I photograph adults with ADHD. Naturally I asked if he wanted to be a part of it and he agreed. When asked about his struggles he wanted to depict in the image, he chose feelings such as suffocating, confidence, laughter, and disappointment. Suffocating - because of overwhelm; getting the wind knocked out of him. Confidence - the desire to be triumphant at the end of a task. Laughter - because sometimes things feel so bad that all he can do is laugh. Disappointment - in himself or others when he doesn’t finish something. I am grateful that he agreed to be a part of my project. Welcome to my IG page, featuring portraits from my ongoing fine art project photographing adults with ADHD! 💖 This is Beatriz, my friend and first model I photographed for the series. Beatriz was kind enough to let me experiment with the lighting techniques and ideas I had in mind to create these dynamic portraits. I knew I wanted to create layers, but didn’t want to use photoshop to achieve the look. And the best way to figure things out is to actually try them, rather than thinking it through - over and over again! 😵💫 It took us about 5 hours total that evening in late December of 2023. At first I wanted to make sure she would be able to get some headshots and other portraits from the shoot, as a Thank You! After that, we REALLY got creative and ultimately this beauty came to be. Thank you again Beatriz! It meant the world to me that you allowed yourself to be vulnerable and trust me with this process! 📸 For my photographer friends who are wondering how this image was created… It’s all done with multiple exposures IN camera, no layering in Photoshop. There are several reasons for that which I will get more into later. You can also check out my website where I explain it as well.
