P L A Y T I M E What do you do with your newborn for playtime? I'm running out of ideas!! Freya is having lots of good length wake windows now. She's started enjoying tummy time and has really started smiling when we interact with her. She's still loving visual stimulation and is very happy looking in a mirror! It's such a relief to know that my baby can hear me 🥹 she's started gurgling and cooing, too, which are really good signs that she's picking up those really early "speech sounds". Our team are very hopeful, thanks to early intervention, that she will follow a fairly normal curve - development wise - and start speaking at the same time as her peers. Travis Manion serving in the USMC as a Lieutenant was killed in action in Iraq on April 29 2007 by a sniper. Lt. Manion who wanted to go back on deployment said send him so another Marine didn’t have to go and experience all this death. Lt. Manion and his men came under fire and several were struck. Lt. Manion and another Marine selfishly placing themselves in the line of fire to rescue the down soldiers ended up being shot and killed by enemy sniper. Lt. Manion was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star w/ valor and a Purple Heart. Lt. Travis Manion is buried in Arlington Cemetery. Thank you Lord for guys like Travis who sacrificed themselves so others may live. Thank you Lord for the military who have allowed us to live in an amazing country with all the freedoms. Der Eine sagt, dass er Gefahr mit Lebensgefahr gleichsetzt, während der Andere sagt, dass die Gefahr für ihn schon mit einer peinlichen Situation, in der man für einen Trottel gehalten werden könnte gleichzusetzen ist. Today is National BSL Day! Today we celebrate the recognition of British Sign Language as a Language in the UK. On this day in 2022, the British Government passed a legislative act to protect #BSL as an indigenous language in the United Kingdom. This had been a long process for everyone involved in the #deafcommunityuk a 19-year-long campaign to finally recognise the rights of #deafpeople and their language. Now we are seeing the introduction of BSL GCSE's in schools, which will provide the next generation a language which will be used more frequently than other languages we learned in school. Frankly, I was burnt out from a childhood of interpreting for them. Today is Deaf Parents Day and boy if I could take one thing back from my teenage years…that would be it. They didn’t deserve that. Adiva ramah sekali, bahkan dia mengoreksi abjad Bisindo yang aku praktikkan. Ternyata ada beberapa isyarat huruf yang kurang sesuai dengan Bisindo yang dipakai di Jakarta. Terimakasih banyak ya adiva. Sebenarnya saat sampai di galeri aku sedikit gugup karena belum bisa bahasa isyarat. Padahal aku sangat ingin berkomunikasi dengan seniman tuli di sana. 🦻🏻It’s been a year since I had my surgery for my cochlear implant. Here’s some little facts/stories about this journey. . - sounds aren’t how they were before. Voices are different, music is different too. . It takes lots of therapy to learn how to hear again. I still have one hour per week to help my brain recognize sounds. . - if there’s a loud annoying sound I can just take my implant off! 😂 . - If you touch the area of my implant, you can feel there’s something underneath my skin. . - I’m still not completely confortable having to tell people I’m deaf. . - hearing doesn’t hurt but sometimes having the implant pushing on my ear hurts a bit. . - I can hear and understand someone better if there’s no music or sounds around us. . - i have a little mic that is connected to my implant to understand people better. . - I can connect my implant to my iPad. It’s like an air pod but it’s in my head! That’s pretty cool. . - I can hear my cats meowing, cars passing, birds singing, the wind, my breathing, a door closing and so much more! There’s stuff I forgot made sounds actually.
