Amazing beauty of universe ✨️ . . Black holes are among the most mysterious cosmic objects, much studied but not fully understood. These objects aren't really holes. They're huge concentrations of matter packed into very tiny spaces. A black hole is so dense that gravity just beneath its surface, the event horizon, is strong enough that nothing - not even light - can escape. The event horizon isn't a surface like Earth's or even the Sun's. It's a boundary that contains all the matter that makes up the black hole. There is much we don't know about black holes, like what matter looks like inside their event horizons. However, there is a lot that scientists do know about black holes. The Big Bear Pair, NGC 3718 and NGC 3729, is a fascinating pair of galaxies located in the constellation Ursa Major. NGC 3718 is particularly notable for its warped appearance, often described as having a twisted or S-shaped morphology. This unusual shape is likely the result of gravitational interactions with its neighbor, NGC 3729, and perhaps other nearby galaxies. NGC 3718 is classified as a peculiar galaxy due to its distorted spiral arms and a warped central disk. The galaxy also features a prominent dust lane that cuts across its nucleus, adding to its dramatic visual appearance. Observations suggest that this galaxy might be in the process of accreting material from its surroundings, which contributes to its irregular structure. NGC 3729, on the other hand, is a smaller barred spiral galaxy. It too shows signs of tidal interaction with NGC 3718, although it maintains a more coherent spiral structure compared to NGC 3718. These galaxies are popular targets for amateur astronomers because of their distinct characteristics and relatively bright magnitude. They are best viewed through a moderate to large telescope, which can reveal the intricate details of their interactions and individual features.

Regulus Star & Dwarf Galaxy Leo I FriendsofNASA.org | High-res image: https://lnkd.in/gepdkRVs In northern hemisphere spring, bright star Regulus is easy to spot above the eastern horizon. The alpha star of the constellation Leo, Regulus is the spiky star centered in this telescopic field of view. A mere 79 light-years distant, Regulus is a hot, rapidly spinning star that is known to be part of a multiple star system. Not quite lost in the glare, the fuzzy patch just below Regulus is diffuse starlight from small galaxy Leo I. Leo I is a dwarf spheroidal galaxy, a member of the Local Group of galaxies dominated by our Milky Way Galaxy and the Andromeda Galaxy (M31). About 800 thousand light-years away, Leo I is thought to be the most distant of the known small satellite galaxies orbiting the Milky Way. But dwarf galaxy Leo I has shown evidence of a supermassive black hole at its center, comparable in mass to the black hole at the center of the Milky Way. A Spiral Galaxy with a Strange Center. What's happening at the center of spiral galaxy M106? A swirling disk of stars and gas, M106's appearance is dominated by blue spiral arms and red dust lanes near the nucleus, as shown in the featured image. The core of M106 glows brightly in radio waves and X-rays where twin jets have been found running the length of the galaxy. An unusual central glow makes M106 one of the closest examples of the Seyfert class of galaxies, where vast amounts of glowing gas are thought to be falling into a central massive black hole. M106, also designated NGC 4258, is a relatively close 23.5 million light years away, spans 60 thousand light years across, and can be seen with a small telescope towards the constellation of the Hunting Dogs (Canes Venatici). Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA) has captured this unusual view of the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293), a planetary nebula located 700 light-years away. The coloured picture was created from images taken through Y, J and K infrared filters. While bringing to light a rich background of stars and galaxies, the telescope's infrared vision also reveals strands of cold nebular gas that are mostly obscured in visible images of the Helix. Jul. 13, 1995: Space Shuttle Discovery's STS-70 mission launched on July 13, 1995 from Kennedy Space Center. STS-70 was the last of seven shuttle missions to carry a Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS), a tool used by NASA and other government agencies to communicate with other satellites, balloons, aircraft, and the ISS. STS-70 deployed TDRS-G about six hours after its launch. During the remainder of the mission, the five crew members completed several experiments, including testing the effect of microgravity on physiological processes in plants, insects, and invertebrate animals. STS-70 marked the first shuttle mission controlled from the new mission control center room at Johnson Space Center, and was the first flight of the Block 1 orbiter main engine. STS-70 finished its mission on July 22, 1995, landing back at the Kennedy Space Center . #nasa #astronomy #astrophotography #space #history #science #universe #moon #spacex #astrophysics #sky #telescope #planets #stars #rocket #apollo #apollo50 #galaxy #alien #astronauts #milkyway #explore #esa #elonmusk #iss #shuttle #mars #aerospace #hubble #starlink

Comet C/2021 A1 C/2021 A1 (Leonard) was a long period comet that was discovered by G. J. Leonard at the Mount Lemmon Observatory on 3 January 2021 (a year before perihelion) when the comet was 5 AU (750 million km) from the Sun. It had a retrograde orbit. The nucleus was about 1 km (0.6 mi) across. It came within 4 million km (2.5 million mi) of Venus, the closest-known cometary approach to Venus. The Milky way is a cute little name for this vast void we’re all stuck in. It gets its name from a Greek myth about the goddess Hera who sprayed milk across the sky. Anywho, the spontaneous discharge of hundreds of billions of stars from her bosom seems totally plausible to me. It’s ironic that most of us are lactose intolerant though.

🌙 The Dark Side of the Moon: Have you ever heard of the "dark side of the Moon"? Contrary to popular belief, it's not a dark and gloomy place, but simply the side of the Moon that we don't see from Earth. This phenomenon occurs because the Moon is "tidally locked" in synchronous rotation with Earth, so it always shows the same face to us. But there's so much more to discover beyond the "dark side"! 🚀 Scattata con telescopio Celestron C14 EDGE HD with 2700mm focal reducer f/7 + ZWO Asi 071 Color #nebula #sky #photographyislife #space #universe #stars #telescope #nebulosa #cielo #telescopio #universo #stelle #spacelovers #costellazioni #celestron #c14 #moon #moonlight #luna
