No trail, waterfall or mountain photos this time. I was fortunate to attend a BTC event this week with about 250 others, sharing a table with some wonderful folks from the Caledon Hills and Toronto BT Clubs. It was great to catch-up with the BTC staff attending, Michael, Marsha, Gloria, Allison (credit for the event logistics!), Adam, Brian, Brooke, and Antoin! (sorry if I missed anyone) The keynote presentations focused on the nearby 200+ acre Riverside Woods Nature Reserve purchase this year. It was five years in the making with a membership donor appeal this spring. The presentations included the ecological plans underway. When I first heard about this in the spring, I checked the map, drew the new route (north and south of Hockley Road) on Google Earth and found our Hockley Valley loop hike will be longer and solidly in the 30+ km range (nice!) and off one of the roads. More interesting, the map included another future route which included Cannings Falls. One of the many falls I’ve been interested in, this had been private property until 2020, although still not accessible. There are some internet photos – both legit and unfortunately some from trespassers. BTW - 2 more months to get a little tax break this year: https://brucetrail.org/ways-to-give 1 – Bruce Trail Conservancy CEO Michael McDonald presenting me with a Birch Tree print from Alicia Bint (@aliciasinfinity). Michael generously spent a little time with me after the event to chat about the trails, the helpful BTC staff, generous volunteers, and photos – it was a mutual pep talk! 2 – The fall scenery was gorgeous. For a while now, I’ve been envisioning my artwork on fabric for other people to create beautiful things with :) I painted this flora and fauna pattern for my newest calendar design, but always had fabric in mind for it! While doing some research online for custom fabric, I found a lovely Canadian (yay!) company called @prairieloveknits and have loved all the creativity they’ve been sharing! They sell all different types of fabric by the yard, as well as supplies and notions! I’ve been a busy bee, finishing up my calendar and preparing for holiday shows, so I haven’t yet ordered fabric from them, but I’m very excited to!!! I wanted to share this design because I thought it might be a perfect fit for their customers, and it fits the theme of an artist call they have put out for florals or woodland animals! I hope you (and they) love it!!! I missed October 1st! Oops! Well, at least it's Monday today, so here's a new illustration for the start of your week :) It's harvest season! All of your hard work has paid off, and you can collect your bounty! Here's a little close up of painting my new bunny's eye - lots of layers, it's all in the details! This bunny is part of the pattern I created for my September illustration, but there are lots of little elements that make up this piece... Should I make this a print on its own? I've struggled with patterns in the past because my work is very detailed, and often when you shrink it down and make it into a pattern it looks like there is too much going on. Hoping I found the right balance for this one, although it's still on the detailed side ;) I think I'm going to get some fabric samples and see what it looks like in person! Happy August!!! The first of the month means a new illustration for me, and this was quite an involved one! As you may know, I'm a gardening, tea, AND antique lover, so it was only fitting for me to paint a dreamy, over-the-top garden tea party scene! Sweets, sandwiches, tea (hot and iced), and all of the antique tableware - with a bounty of flowers to top it off! I couldn't resist buying this beautiful Iris this morning at the garden centre! I looked at several similar reference photos when I painted these irises that I used on this perfect spring time wedding invitation :) My painting is a little more on the purple side, but I hear that's what mine could look like at some point as well (thanks @quillandoak!). I love the mix of mauve (in the centre of the bloom), cream and this blush, cafe colour... It's just so pretty, I had to take it home! #pamandjimforever

Happy August! The first of the month means a new illustration for me :) What would a small town be without a cute place to get ice cream?! I debated on a shoppe or parlour, but a truck just felt right! My fiction town now has an ice cream truck called "The Cruisin' Creamery" and a homemade popsicle cart! I purposely left off the speaker, because we all know that music will drive you bonkers... this truck is more of a permanent fixture and is very well known to the townspeople ;) To be honest, I think this has been my favourite month to paint so far this year! The colours make me so happy, and the thought of chocolate fudge brownie ice cream has me craving a delicious waffle cone :) If you've been following along this year, you may know that these monthly pieces will make up a calendar for next year! It's the first of July! That means, a new painting for my fictional town and Happy Canada Day! I knew my little town (that will make up next year's wall calendar) HAD to include a flower-themed building, so why not a beautiful and cute victorian greenhouse?! I've had so many of these on my Pinterest board of dreamy garden content, I just knew I'd paint one someday! It was hard to choose between a flower stand/cart, a cute shop, or a greenhouse, but I'm happy with my decision! Painting the windows was a little daunting at the start, but I hope I captured the essence of a dreamy, glass building full of greenery and floral goodness! I'm still feeling all of the purple flowers in my garden, so I thought I would share this tri-folding invitation that features lilacs and poppies! It's March!!! That means, it's time for a new small town illustration :) If you know me at all, you'll know that I've been an avid thrift hunter and antique lover for many years... most of my life, actually! My Mom and Gram always had antiques scattered around as part of their home decor, and I have many of my Gram's pieces in my home now. Of course, an antique shop HAD to be part of this fictional town I'm creating ;) FUN QUESTION// What's your best thrift or vintage score?! I think mine is my antique folding wood table. It's so beautiful and practical, I use it all the time and absolutely love it. I've had a lot of wonderful thrift and vintage scores though, so it's hard to choose. It's such a fun hobby! Note: I'm often asked about art prints when I release my monthly illustrations, so I'll be putting them up in my shop as I go! Here's the still image of my new design, Greenery Sprigs! I painted these the other day and I'm so in love with this simple and elegant design! I may have squealed when I got the samples in ;) As you can see in my feed, I've never been one for plain white or minimal design, but I feel like this suite is a great balance of detail with the watercolour paintings and minimal white backs with simplistic text. Just finished my seed starting schedule. I went through all my seeds & picked out all the one I want to grow this year. Veggies & flowers! I started with my last frost date which I easily got from The Old Farmers Almanac website. Which for me is May 28th. That's the date I plan to plant out all my seedling 🤞 I then counted backwards on a calendar & wrote the date & how many weeks till that plant out date. For example 1 week out from May 28th would be May 21st. I wrote down all the weeks & dates as far back as 12 weeks which is March 5th for me. I then went through all my seeds packs & grouped them together depending on how many weeks before my last frost date they are supposed to be sowed. Now I know exactly what date I will sow each seed. Now to figure out it how many seeds to plant of each variety 😅 Do you have a seed starting schedule? Or do you just wing it? Let me know! Happy February! In case you're fairly new here, I paint a piece for the beginning of each month that I will use for next year's calendar design! I wasn't ready for January 1st, but I now am ready to share the theme and artwork with you... SMALL TOWN CHARM :) I decided to celebrate and imagine all the charm that comes with small towns, small businesses, beautiful architecture and antique goodness - so much of what I love!!! I'm so excited to present this new concept to you, and hope you will look forward to a new building or landmark every month this year! The first piece was a Hardware Store, that you may have seen a couple of weeks ago ;) And the second is a bakery! Freshly baked bread, pastries, cookies... oh my! And a vintage delivery van filled with baguettes and loaves - yes, please! I had a lot of fun with this, and can smell the delicious scent in my imagination... now I want to bake some bread! The scent of freshly cut wood has always felt nostalgic, and takes me back to going to the hardware store with my Dad as a kid! I don't know how often we actually went, but for some reason every time I walk into a hardware store it feels familiar :) Perhaps it's because he was (and is) always working on something in the basement... cutting wood, metal, pipes or fixing something! He's the epitome of a handyman, and for that reason (of course) I will dedicate this painting to him!!! Emerald Green is Etsy's colour of the year - what do we think?! I love a deep green, so I will certainly skew more to the darker tones of emerald, but I'm here for it! Personally, I'm not big on trends per se, but I do like to keep up on them and share the ones I enjoy! I won't jump on trends that don't feel like myself, so I was happy to hear about this one! For weddings specifically, I think a deep emerald green is such a luxurious color, and can be pulled into lots of aspects; stationery, bridesmaid gowns, tableware, and of course greenery floral accents. I already have a few wedding stationery designs that feature emerald, or I can adjust colors to fit that in. This design pictured is a great example, and you can swipe to see other colours I've used for it.
