Now playing in mono, recorded in 1954 (A) & 1953 (B) - 1956 compilation. : I’m a big Mary Lou fan and I wanted this one for its cover art as well as its one step closer to owning all of her recorded work. Side A is taken from a 1954 album only released in France on Vogue. In 1976, the entire album was finally reissued in the US. I’m holding on to that copy, until I can find a copy of the original. As for the music - it’s a lovely quartet mainly highlighting Don Byas and Mary Lou. It’s kind of a transition of early bop & post-swing with a super chill vibe. The second side is all big band with Clayton being backed by a French big band. You can see in my last pic that someone wrote “Paris - Oct 20, 21 1953 (See Basie book for personnel). I wonder what book this was??
