💙 DB7 💙 Code named NPX, the DB7 was styled by Ian Callum and engineered in conjunction the TWR group. Aston Martin revealed the car at the Geneva Motorshow in 1993, with production starting in 1994 at a new factory in Bloxham, near Banbury in Oxfordshire. Over 7000 were produced making it one of the most successful Astons ever built and to this day is credited with carrying the brand through a rough patch in time. 🇬🇧 The Aston Martin Lagonda is a full-size luxury four-door saloon manufactured between 1974 and 1990. A total of 645 were produced. The name was derived from the Lagonda marque that Aston Martin had purchased in 1947. There are two distinct generations, the original, the short lived 1974 design based on a lengthened Aston Martin V8, and the entirely redesigned, wedge-shaped Series 2 model introduced in 1976. After the production of only seven Series 1 cars, the Lagonda was designed from the ground up in 1976 by William Towns as an extreme interpretation of the classic 1970s "folded paper" style. It was an unconventional design practice for the company. With famous contemporaries like the Lamborghini Countach, Lotus Esprit, and DMC DeLorean, the Lagonda is frequently named among the most striking wedge-shaped designs. The Lagonda combined striking styling with a premium leather interior and (for the day), advanced instrumentation. Coupled to a Chrysler three-speed "TorqueFlite" automatic transmission, its four-cam carbureted V8 provided poor fuel economy, impacted little by the change to fuel injection in the Series 3. The hand-built Lagonda was amongst the most expensive luxury saloons in the world. The only other production cars to approach its price were the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit/Silver Spur and the Bentley Mulsanne. The Lagonda was the first production car to use a digital instrument panel. The development cost for the electronics alone on the Lagonda came to four times as much as the budget for the whole car. 🇬🇧 The Aston Martin DB2/4 is a grand tourer produced by Aston Martin from 1953 until 1957. It was available as a 2+2 hatchback saloon, drophead coupé (DHC) and 2-seat fixed-head coupé. The DB2/4 was based on the DB2, which it replaced. Changes included a single-piece windscreen, larger bumpers, and repositioned headlights. The Lagonda straight-6 engine, designated the VB6E, was initially the same dual overhead cam straight-6 designed by W. O. Bentley and used in the Vantage version of the DB2. Displacement was 2.6 L (2,580 cc), giving 125 hp (93 kW). In September 1953 the hatchback saloon received a 140 hp (104 kW) 2.9 L (2,922 cc) VB6J variant, folllowed by the Drophead in April 1954. Maximum speed was raised to 120 mph (193 km/h). The DB2/4 Mk II model, introduced in 1955, offered an optional large-valve, high compression (8.6:1) 165 hp (123 kW) engine. Other changes included small tailfins, bubble-type tail lights as on the Morris Minor, and added chrome. The bonnet horizontal split line was also changed from door sill height to a line carried backwards from the top of the front wheel arch. A 2-seat Fixed Head Coupé (FHC) was new, in addition to the continued Drophead. Three Mark II chassis were sent to Carrozzeria Touring in Italy to be bodied as Spider models. Touring would later help Aston with the Superleggera design of the DB4. One significant behind-the-scenes change for the Mark II was the relocation of coachbuilding responsibilities from Mulliner's of Feltham to Tickford's works in Newport Pagnell. A new study, led by scientists at @cimas_rosenstiel and #aoml found that the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) abyssal (deep sea) limb in the North Atlantic has weakened over the past two decades contributing to sea level rise in the region. The #amoc consists of two strong overturning cells (or limbs), an upper cell and an abyssal cell (deep sea) that sits underneath. The deep sea limb of the AMOC redistributes heat and carbon as it carries Antarctic Bottom Water (coldest, densest water in the ocean) from the Southern Ocean towards the northern hemisphere. Using mooring observations and hydrographic data from multiple sources in the North Atlantic Ocean, the study found that during 2000-2020, the Antarctic Bottom Water northward transport at 16°N weakened by about 12% which caused weakening of the abyssal AMOC cell and, hence, sea level rise in the region.
