✨ ARTIST SPOTLIGHT ✨ Today we highlight a ceramic artist in Gutman Gallery Shop, Troy Bungart of @troybungart! Troy Bungart loves his life and the pottery he makes is infused with delight. He is known for his functional pottery adorned with rabbits and turtles as well as other distinctive sculptural animals and natural elements. Troy has lived most of his life in rural Southwest Michigan except for the years he was studying for his BFA at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky University. He frequently travels to visit kiln firings and to teach workshops. Troy chose to concentrate in the field of ceramic art because functional pottery is accessible to everyone. He feels art shouldn't only be locked in a museum. ✨ ARTIST SPOTLIGHT ✨ Today we highlight another artist in Gutman Gallery Shop, Alexis Montana of @the.butterfly.effect_! Alexis says, "I was born and raised in Michigan. I began creating at a young age and took every art class offered in school. Once I graduated, I became a licensed cosmetologist. Although I loved doing hair, I felt like I wasn’t able to be as creative as I wanted to be. That’s when I decided to mess around with some clay. What started as a creative outlet, quickly turned into much more and is now my full time job! I love making unique jewelry and don’t see myself ever stopping. My jewelry is mainly made from polymer clay, but I also use resin, crystals, wire and dried florals to create my pieces. I love mixing materials and experimenting. Today was day 1 for the Paint Ann Arbor 200 event, and I set up across the road from one of the town's funky iconic businesses, the Beer Depot. Conditions were a bit challenging. It was 34 degrees and breezy when I started, and it spit snow off and on all morning. I had to take a break by noon to go thaw out my fingers.
