This is the new, 2024 version, large feeding pod for leaf cutter ants! We've been using the previous version of this for the last 18 months for our colony, but it was too large to ship safely. It has now been redesigned to be flat pack! It's huge at 480mm x 390mm x 300mm and features three areas to add your oil or escape fluid to meaning you can even leave the secure, screwed lids off if you like and have a natural vine going into the pod for an extra 'wow' factor. You can use this not only with our other leaf cutter pods, but your own setups. It has 4x 32mm OD acrylic tube entrances which feature nice ramps for the colony to use. Any entrances you're not using can be blocked off or add mesh inserts into for even more airflow. It also sits perfectly next to our new 2024, flat pack Quad Heating box! I am in awe and happy to introduce to you the latest addition to my collection of live queen ants - the gorgeous species that goes by the name of Myrmecia brevinoda (Forel, 1910) all the way from Australia. As Myrmecia is one of my favourite ants, for this image, I decided to do something different and change my usual reflective suface and replace it with a more mat one. more imagers at www.eddimage.com The Myrmecia brevinoda, a species of bull ant, is native to Australia. This species is predominantly found in the eastern Australian states of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and the Australian Capital Territory. Interestingly, their presence in Queensland is limited to the eastern areas. In terms of physical characteristics, the Myrmecia brevinoda is one of the largest types of bull ants in Australia and in the world. Worker ants of this species can measure up to 3.7 cm (1.5 in) in total length, while queens can exceed 4.0 cm (1.6 in) in length. They typically grow to be 24-30 mm for queens and 17-26 mm for workers. Most of their bodies are dark red, with the exception of the bulbous parts of their abdomens being black. When it comes to their social structure, Myrmecia brevinoda can form colonies with one or more queens and can have up to several hundred workers. Their diet consists of food insects, fruits, and syrup. A large nest of Myrmecia brevinoda in north Queensland contained 2576 workers and 1 queen. Other small ants, termites and various insect larvae were also found in uninhabited parts of the mound. This species was first described in 1910. The great morphological diversity among ants, such as the Myrmecia brevinoda, is one of the reasons they are so successful. In the heart of a scorching summer day, a tiny ant embarked on a perilous journey in search of water. The relentless sun had dried up every trace of moisture, leaving the world barren and parched. Undeterred by the daunting task, the ant scurried across the arid landscape, led by an insatiable thirst. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the ant stumbled upon this mud water bowl, for the ant it felt like it was an oasis amidst the desert. Well here we are , my camponotus fedtschenkoi queen passed away. A day before she passed her head got stuck in the cotton next to the water. Another guy had this heppen to hes camponotus japonicus queen and i heard from him that it is some kind of zombie parasite most likely, which makes the ant try to get to water and get stuck in the cotton.
