Take your time and design a stunning piece of jewelry. The instructor will bring examples of pendants and earrings for inspiration. Each participant will have 10 grams of silver metal clay (a fee of $25.00 will be collected separately by the instructor). The City of Asheville and Public Art and Culture Commission seek artists or designers to submit their qualifications for a piece of public artwork that reimagines and replaces Station #7, the Art Deco Masterpiece, part of Asheville’s Urban Trail. A draw for locals and an estimated 12.5 million visitors a year, the RAD counts almost 300 artists across 23 buildings and 2 square miles. Amidst the unprecedented growth and popularity of the area, the RAD’s creative class, which helped define it, faces displacement due to rising rents and decreasing inventory for residential, studio, and work space. You may have seen Tyger Tyger Gallery’s first open call a few months ago. If you missed it, we put out a call for works on paper and we were overwhelmed by the response we received and the quality of work that was submitted. Out of hundreds of entries, we selected 27 artists who will be showing in “I will tell you mine.” Working across an impressive range of applications, methods, and materials, the selected artists engage paper’s malleability and structure with natural and synthetic paper substrates that are variously painted, drawn, and printed upon with wet and dry media. It promises to be an exciting exhibition that celebrates paper’s versatility. The opening reception is on Friday, April 19 from 6 - 8pm.
