I look up to so many inspiring strong women and one woman in particular is @emmycarrerom who was awarded the Power of Beauty title during the 2022 Miss Intercontinental final in Egypt. Emmy is actually the reason why I entered @missintercontinentalgb after watching her be celebrated by the Miss Intercontinental organisation with such a prestigious award I knew this was the system for me. Like Emmy I write children’s stories, I have my own business and created my own non-profit organisation called the Time for Talk Initiative. Miss Intercontinental Great Britain 7 Day Countdown 🇬🇧 Day 7 - Favourite Appearance With my finalist sash I have travelled across Great Britain and beyond with an international trip to America making appearances. My favourite appearance has to be my meeting with Kate Davis Head of Fundraising at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital and Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust. During this meeting I had the opportunity to talk to Kate about my Time for Talk Initiative work and I was able to learn about the work that the genetics department does for children like my sister who have rare genetic conditions. This meeting was incredibly educational for myself to learn more about genetic testing and how screenings work in hospitals. Today is Undiagnosed Children’s Day 👶🏼🧬 Undiagnosed Children’s Day is a nationwide event to raise awareness of children with undiagnosed genetic conditions, also known as syndromes without a name. Approximately 6,000 children are born in the UK each year with a syndrome without a name – a genetic condition so rare that it is often impossible to diagnose. For ten years my little sister Lexi was one of those children. Although she finally has her genetic diagnosis now for most of her life she has lived as a SWAN child (syndrome without a name) 🦢 Today we celebrate the amazing children who are living with undiagnosed genetic conditions. ✨My 17TH lap around the sun✨ It’s my birthday! Ten years ago I was a terrified autistic child who couldn’t see a way out. Even three years ago I was desperately unwell, and unsure if I’d be able to make it to my seventeenth year. And now I have done it. I’ve had one of the most life changing years of my life, from competing in two national pageants, reaching the end of my my college course, taking part in activism events, and raising money for charity. None of this would have been possible for the girl I was five years ago. In the last year, I’ve •achieved my major goal of placing in a pageant •spent a year being out-and-proud queer •educated many people on the reality of being autistic •made more friends through beauty events than I could have imagined And those are the big things. The little things, to me, are just as important. I can wear heels all day without worrying my mobility will suddenly disappear. I wear a bikini on the beach without worrying about my body. I write a post for social media, and share it with my 700 followers. I’m starting to be the girl I wanted to be, and the girl I want others to be able to look up to. Happy International Pageant Day 👑 I am truly so grateful to have discovered the extra sparkly and wonderful world that is pageantry. The friendships, memories and confidence I have gained in this eight year journey is something I hold close to my heart. I traveled 3 and a half hours to Trowbridge to attend the International Junior Miss UK finals to support my pageant best friends who were competing 👑💙 I always have the most incredible time attending the IJM UK finals as an audience member and wow how amazing were all the girls on stage last night! I donated a pack of hair scrunchies to Mrs Galaxy 2024 to be used in contestant gift bags for her pageant Mr and Miss Wonderfully Made. Every contestant receives a goody bag full of wonderful gifts. This pageant is for members of the special needs community, those with intellectual and physical disabilities. And this is open to all ages. This pageant allows the contestants to be empowered and to feel like the king/queen that they are. Every contestant gets crowned and they all receive a sash which I think is so lovely. The contestants compete in introduction, personality wear and formal wear. The pageant is being held on April 21st and I am so excited to see how it goes! Last Thursday on World Book Day I donated a copy of my children’s book Little Miss Speechless to Crosby High School. Crosby High is a wonderful specialist secondary school that helps students learn and grow. The Time for Talk Initiative advocates for the inclusion of children with hidden disabilities within society and focuses on making education accessible to those children with learning difficulties. Self-publishing my own children’s book inspired by my little sister’s story of positivity through the challenges she has faced in her life because of her speech delay and rare genetic disorder has created change within people’s mindsets that we should not judge a book by it’s cover. Little Miss Speechless has allowed me to share my sister’s story to so many people to demonstrate her strength and her positive outlook on life. Books are a powerful educational tool that every child should have access to and I was honoured to be able to donate my book on World Book Day to such a fantastic school that really cares for children with disabilities.
