Let’s talk about crying.. Sleep training is not the same as ‘cry it out’ The Cry it Out method (also know as the Extinction method) involves putting your baby in their cot at bedtime and then leaving your baby to cry themselves to sleep and not returning until the morning - this is NOT sleep training. This is ignoring your baby’s need for you to respond.. There are SO many gentle ways to teach your child to sleep independently that involve no crying at all but please know that crying is your baby’s way of communicating their frustration and a natural reaction to our attempt to help them learn how to sleep better Babies cry in the day time when they’re tired too however the term ‘Cry it Out’ has caused a huge stigma that is attached to babies crying at night time.. Sleeping well is a learned skill and coaches like myself have trained on how to teach children to do this for themselves in the most gentle ways possible to allow the whole family to get a better nights sleep, which is a basic need for everyone! 🌵East Austin Hotel 🌵 @eastaustinhotel A few highlights from our short stay in this hotel before moving onto Wimberley and the Texas countryside. I loved the aesthetic and laid back nature of the hotel. The breakfast was excellent, the location was excellent & anywhere with pink accents gets my vote! When I saw the party in full swing on our floor and the number of bars outside my window, I was a bit worried we would sleep well but the sound proofing seemed really good. I'm a physiotherapist with 20 years experience in helping people with their problems. Why did I decide to change things up and train as a sleep consultant? Because I became a mum. A mum who was breastfeeding and co-sleeping safely (see @lullabytrust for safe sleep guidelines) with my little one which was working so so well... until it didn't. My little one and I stumbled through sleepless nights. Safe co-sleeping worked so well for us when she was little, but as time went on, it stopped working for us. My little girl stopped sleeping well next to me and I didn’t know what to do. The constant wake-ups left me drained and frazzled. I was back at work and struggling to concentrate. I was grumpy and felt really depressed and overwhelmed. I knew something had to change, but I was scared of the idea of sleep training. The thought of hearing my baby cry made my heart ache. 🎥 Parent and Baby cinemas, London 🎥 I had an epic time at our lovely local @riocinema in Dalston for their weekly Parent and Baby cinema screening of the new Amy Winehouse movie (absolutely amazing btw!) First of all, such a lovely cinema, such lovely staff, such a great inclusive thing to be able to access films with other parents. Highly recommend! Secondly, just ecstatic to be able to do this with LM2! I couldn't believe my luck. Almost 4 week old LM2 at this point basically slept the entire thing- it was like sorcery and I was chuffed to bits! 🤗 Where else can you access similar screenings?
