I am very pleased to announce that yesterday I gave in my two weeks notice to Chemist Warehouse and will be starting my new full time job as a PA for an Accounting firm in the city. I cannot believe that after working 10 years in retail I have finally made it out of that industry. No more working weekends, no more working late nights, no more working public holidays, no more exhaustion, just no more bullshit. This has been a long time in the making since he stepped down from his management career with them and took a position with Northwestern Mutusl. We took a pretty significant household income hit so he still worked part-time to help with extra money for our family. I spent years in retail… the last bit of it was some of my worst days. (I even got a tattoo that says that because I hated my job so much) . I’m definitely not perfect. But towards the end I was having panic attacks… working anywhere from 40-60hrs a week. Being on call (I was hourly not salary). And being bullied. . I loved retail. The company I worked for. But really who you work for is BIG! Going into a job that is draining but also feeling hated/disliked by your peers makes it even worse! . With everything I also got physically sick. I gained almost 60 pounds. And when I got diagnosed with IBS I was told it could have started because of the stress of my job!!! . Now I work for myself 🖤!! @risen.retro has changed my life! When I was 17 , my dream was to be a freelance makeup artist. I quickly realized it wouldn’t pay my bills and went to cosmetics retail and owning retail businesses. Owning businesses and serving others in retail comes with a lot of sacrifices. Missing out on family time and holidays , long days and working weekends , and there are no days off for business owners. It also comes with a lot of risk. 37 years later , I am finally able to be free. Free to make my own schedule and do what I love. Free to continue freelancing, sewing, spending time with my family and friends. Getting here surely wasn’t easy, but I don’t think I would appreciate it as much as I do right now. Last day at work 🌹 I got such thoughtful gifts from my co-workers 🥺 It’s been 9 months since I started at this place and wow. I’m not going to work in retail anymore 😳 I’ve worked in retail in 7 years and it’s over now. Mostly the years been good and fun! I’ve really enjoyed a lot working in a toy store but I have to admit 1-2 years back I totally lost it. Especially these 9 months been most challenging ever. I have never worked with such environment before and this was the worst. I’m thankful for my co-workers been there and made work a better place! I have never called the security and spoke to the police as much as I did the pst year. I have witnessed thieving from all ages, all colors all genders and it’s been bad. Small kids, pregnant woman..elderly yeah you name it. All kinds. And this really take the energy of you. I’m not there to educate and acting police my job is selling products and to make the shop nice 😣 And I can’t believe I actually witnessed in the court because of this! 🤯👆🏻 So yeah I’m soo tired of this. These shops, markets and galleries were where I cut my jewellery love teeth !....From them, in the 1980s, I learnt about Contemporary and vintage jewellery, about style, aesthetic , and so much more.
