I'm currently reading ‘Oral History of the Yavapai’. From the 40s to the 90s the they were involved in trying to get something called the Orme Dam project overturned. It's a dam just southeast of Phoenix Arizona that would have flooded three quarters of their property. Carson, who is director of the Emilio Ambasz Institute at New York’s MoMa, visited the Netherlands as part of his research into circular design. What a delight to talk to such a bright mind. We had a very inspiring conversation about the raw material transition, the environmental impact of construction sites, the need to ‘retrofit first’ and the impact of media in the circularity transition. Besides all this Carson is a friend whom I’ve known since my days at Studio Miessen in Berlin back in 2008, so it was great to reunite. The remnants of Yugoslavian culture – the monuments, protagonists and ideals forgotten since the country’s collapse – are often reanimated in Aleksandra Domanović’s practice.
