More from @younetflix season 4, for hair/makeup designer Jane Walker. The character of Aidan is killed & has an ear removed, which is then seen several times during the series. As a precaution, I made left & right ears, along with doubles...to cover for any last minute changes. The prosthetic was also made with adaptability in mind, so it could be altered for left or right, depending on camera/location changes on the day, and needed to be de-rigged quickly. After thinking it was to be a severed ear only, the prosthetic itself was another quick turnaround, built in 2 overlapping "c" shaped pieces along with a very thin cap plastic piece to cover the ear with as little build up as possible. The actor's ear was taped down with opsite & everything placed around. Edges were blended into the taped down hair, coloured & with no time to organise a hairpiece, yak hair laid over edges and into the actors hair. GearJunkie caught up with pro skier Rachael Burks (@rachaelburks) to talk about her career, women in skiing, her gear, and an upcoming project in Ecuador with the Range of Motion Project. ⛷️ Last year, the 42-year-old pro skier signed on with the Range of Motion Project (ROMP) and led 14 limb-loss and different-limbed athletes on an attempted ascent of Cayambe — one of the three tallest mountains in Ecuador at 18,996 feet. @rompglobal is a nonprofit organization that provides prosthetic care for underserved people. What lower limb offloading device should I get? I receive this question multiple times per week, especially this week. I only recommend the Exosym. Note, I am sharing only my experiences. I believe this hybrid prosthetic-orthotic is the best solution for those with limb salvage injuries, ankle fusions, partial-foot amputations, fractures, tarsal coalitions, and other lower extremity dysfunctions such as clubfoot. Why? I want to keep this simple so I will share only two reasons today. 1. Personal results - In the Exosym I train all day and navigate daily life without notable issues. In other devices my limbs hurt, lots of swelling, and the devices never felt comfortable. The Exosym stability, offloading, and mitigating of impacts is unmatched. 2. Success stories - The Exosym is loaded with success stories, whereas other builds are not. Why? Besides the Exosym being a completely unique device, I believe we are also navigating a lack of training and experience with CPOs, fabricators, and developers of components of other devices.
