Road Trips During COVID . 🚨What have I decided after extensive research? . . We really wanted to take a short 2 day road trip to Arkansas. . I found that even with taking all the precautions, between my husband working at Parkland, with us having an infant, and having high risk family members, the risks outweighed the benefits. The thought of traveling actually ended up causing me more anxiety than pleasure at this time. So, The Traveling Hijabista will not be traveling, but I’ll still be sharing my daily adventures so y’all can still travel locally through my experiences ☺️and will share other lady’s experiences with y’all to give y’all insight on what to expect if you decide to travel. . 👣If y’all do decide to take a road trip, please check my previous posts by @heart.beat.doctor on how to take precautions once you arrive at your hotel and for things to pack. . ❤️Hand Hygiene- wash hands frequently, and if soap isn’t available sanitize. . ❤️Wear a mask . ❤️social distance- 6 feet apart . ❤️pack your own toilet seat covers, and toilet paper, in case you have to use the bathroom at a gas station or restaurant. . ❤️Pack your Lysol wipes . . ❤️Avoid large crowds: if you can travel to a city on weekday, restaurants and hotspots will be less crowded than on weekends. . ❤️Use drive thru or curbside pick up instead of dine-in . You would think that the answer would be “No,” but there are so many personal factors to consider. For some people travel helps with mental health, which is huge. Resident life. Resident Wife. . After 8 years, This is how a COVID Residency graduation looks like. . . 👣Residency can definitely be straining on a marriage, but This whole process has helped us both have faith, make the most of what we have, celebrate the small things, and to frequently express gratitude to each other, to our family and friends. . Are we done yet? . I wish... . So what’s next? . More training. Becoming a Doctor is one of the most selfless jobs. Seeing my husband manage sleepless nights and 7 day weeks was draining, and I wasn’t even the person going through the actual shifts. Medically Managing stressful situations, like being on the frontline during COVID and more helped prepare us for what’s to come, a humbling and rewarding journey of improving people’s quality of life. And now for residency part 2, aka Fellowship. . . Stress➡️Anxiety➡️Depression . . Dealing with this time can be difficult. As a new mom, full time working mom and wife, I feel like I have so many shoes to fill without any help! So here’s what has helped. . 🗣First, set boundaries. Don’t let anyone tell you that your being negative or a Debby downer. It’s okay to feel down. In fact it’s important to identify how your feeling and be in acceptance with your feelings. This just means your going through the stages of grief. . 🗣Sleep 😴 Get 4-6 hours of consecutive sleep. This one’s a tough one for all my ladies in their last trimester or postpartum ladies. Sleeping when your baby sleeps helps. . 🗣Let go of perfectionism. For me, it meant coming to peace with feeding my little one formula vs. 💯 breastmilk. Be graceful with yourself. . 🗣Develop a routine. Stick to it. . 🗣Develop a workspace that’s only for work. . . 🗣Embed transition time in your schedule- this means, after completing your task, change environments, this could mean walking downstairs, leaving your apartment, going for a car ride ( I gained this coping strategy from one of patients). . . I’ve really tried to invite mental health professionals for our VIrtual @chaitalkpro meetups for last month and this month because I feel like we are all navigating uncharted waters and it’s important to have the right tools from the pros to stay afloat and make it ashore. JANUARY 2019 CHAI TALK❤️Starting the year strong with the help from Allah! Yesterday we had our first Chai Talk. The topic was: Wearing hijab as a young professional. Starting your career journey can be hard for everyone, and wearing the hijab can impact the interview process. Last night we had a group of powerful ladies talk about their experiences and tips to developing the confidence you need for your dream job. Some of tips were: . 💡Don't be shy about showing your expertise and keep in mind "stay humble." In Islam staying humble is key. One of the biggest things I had to work on was talking about what I knew in interviews because I felt like the resume was enough 💡practice interview questions while looking at yourself in a mirror. It helps you modify your nonverbal communication.💡practice answering: "why do you wear the hijab?"💡have a go to response that educates people when someone makes an inappropriate comment. Alot of times we are dismissive to what people say because we don't want to be disrespectful. But there is a way to respond without being disrespectful.💡share negative experiences with HR, if your company is good they will take action.💡a smile a day keeps the grumpy away .💡have confidence in yourself, and remind yourself "I GOT THIS." . . .
