Our Chipmunks play off journey ends in the semifinals against the eventual tournament winners, Lincoln City FC. The tournament began with the Chipmunks falling behind early against a motivated Indy FC. A late equalizer forced a penalty shootout, in which Chipmunks goal keeper Kylyn Schnelle successfully protected the goal twice to deny Indy FC a revenge win. The second game was against Back in Black, during which a hard charging Chipmunks squad cruised early to a 3-0 advantage behind a brace by Colin Burke. Eventually the ‘Munks held on to win 4-1. In the end, the rematch against Lincoln City was too much for the Chipmunks, who bled early and often. Two lightning quick goals to start the match gave Lincoln the advantage. Then, an all-or-nothing mindset from the Chipmunks allowed Lincoln to break across often and hard, easily putting away the Chipmunks in purple to the tune of 0-6. Lincoln City went on to win the tournament with a 2-1 win over 1-seed Booz TZ. It’s CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK ✊✊✊ Fire Chipmunks FC have earned a 6-seed for this week’s session-end tourney and will kick off at 7 pm versus Indy FC. Should the Chipmunks march all the way to the championship game, this side of the playoff bracket sees three likely rematches from the in-season run of games. The first matchup at 7 pm pits the Chipmunks versus Indy FC, a rematch of the Week 2 game which the Chipmunks won comprehensively. Indy FC features a core group of players with dynamic playmaking skills, but the Chipmunks were able to ask enough questions of the rest of the Indy squad to walk away victorious in the early stages of the campaign. Should the Chipmunks find their way past Indy FC, the first bye team awaits. A rematch of Week 3, the tournament’s 3-seed Back in Black and the ‘Munks will finally settle the score after a mid-season 3-3 draw. The intricate attacking style of the Blacks was a difficult challenge for the Chipmunks, so this game promises highly tactical football. All the way into the semi-finals of the tournament, a likely opponent could be the 2-seed Lincoln City Exports squad. Lincoln escaped victorious against the Chipmunks in week 5 with a 5-7 score line. Lincoln’s athletic talent pool tested the Chipmunks the most during that goal-happy affair but as is often the case, the scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story. The Chipmunks will be without regular starter Nick Reed, while Matt Brewer and Rachel Masterson make their squad returns after a week away. Taylor Houfek is expected to be included in the matchday squad despite sustaining an ankle injury last week. So there's this pile of hollow metal poles left over from a long ago fencing project at Grammy and Grampy's house where the chipmunks like to hide.
