Throwing it back to some snake relocations at my old job. People would often mistake these bullsnakes for rattlesnakes and I loved taking the time to explain the differences and how to properly (and safely) identify them. I would also teach them a little about snakes in general, let them examine the snake or even touch it to help break down those barriers of fear. People fear the unknown so, education is the first step in conservation! As we begin to enter the warmer months, you may start to see more wildlife out and about. Please be kind to our snake friends and respect their role in the ecosystems they are found in. Enjoy them and take a picture at a safe distance but do not bother them, especially if you cannot properly identify the species. If you find yourself (or the snake) in a dangerous situation, call someone to properly handle and relocate it or for you. (Yes, I know I’m wearing the mask outside.
