Gray Tree Frog, either Common or Cope’s. We have both and they look identical but sound different. I noticed this little guy poking his head out of a vacant birdhouse. . Bonus question: what color shirt was I wearing when I took this photo? . . . . . . . . #nisiopticsusa #macro #nature #amphibian #amphibiansofinstagram #backyardwildlife  #frog #treefrog #graytreefrog #commongraytreefrog #copesgraytreefrog

The Common Gray Tree Frog is a rough skinned frog native to the eastern United States. These frogs live in forested areas near permanent water sources, and eat insects. These frogs are mainly nocturnal, so it was awesome seeing one during the day! 🐸 #frog #frogs #frogsofinstagram #amphibiansofinstagram #amphibians #amphibian #graytreefrog #wildlife #wildlifephotography #commongraytreefrog

This sweet little Cope's or Common Gray Treefrog was hiding amongst the branches that have been collected on the deck. He blended right in with the lichens. #copesgraytreefrog #commongraytreefrog #northcarolinawildlife

These are a pair of the #commongraytreefrog that are #native to this area. The large one is about an inch long, smaller one about 3/4"! Found them both separately, but they get along great! #hylaversicolor #treefrog #frog #amphibians #vivarium #frogsofinstagram #nofilter #nativefauna #graytreefrog #happy #herpetoculture

I have posted a lot of cool pictures of Costa Rican frogs, but we have some pretty awesome ones 'round here, too! Here's a make Gray Tree Frog (Hyla versicolor) caught in mid-call that I photographed while teaching a biology course at Kellogg Biological Station (Michigan; Michigan State University) in summer 2015. As indicated by its species name, this arboreal frog can vary its coloration from green to gray depending on the surface upon which it is perched. Also evident in this picture is the bumpy skin texture that makes it look toad-like. Gray tree frogs can be found throughout much of the eastern United States, with western boundaries being central Texas and Oklahoma. They range as far north as the Canadian Provinces of Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba. Interestingly, the species is also known as the Tetraploid Gray Treefrog because it is 4n, having 4 copies of each of 12 chromosomes vs. the 2n Cope's Gray Treefrog (H. chrysoscelis) which is nearly morphologically identical to H. versicolor and has a more southerly distribution. #hylaversicolor #graytreefrog #tetraploidgraytreefrog #easterngraytreefrog #commongraytreefrog
