🐦‍⬛AVES DE VALENCIA🦤 Vencejo común (Apus apus) Orden: Caprimulgiformes Familia: Apodidae Longitud: 17 cm Envergadura: 45 cm Alimentación: Es especialista en capturar pequeños insectos al vuelo, lo que se denomina “aeroplancton”. En España se ha comprobado que consume sobre todo himenópteros, chinches, moscas, mosquitos y neurópteros. . Es un ave diseñada para el vuelo, de hecho sus patas están atrofiadas porque no se posa más que para incubar y atender el nido. Anida casi exclusivamente en construcciones humanas, abandonando el nido a finales de julio. Si hace mal tiempo, los adultos pueden abandonar el nido, sobreviviendo los pollos sin comer hasta una semana gracias a la ralentización del metabolismo. Captura los insectos al vuelo manteniendo la boca abierta. Här jobbar jag! Välkomna till Kumla kommun där jag har ett stökigt kontor fyllt med precis lagom många växter. Tidigare i veckan gjorde vi dock något extra roligt här som jag tror ni alla kommer uppskatta! Kan du se vad? För er som inte la märke till det, kolla högst upp på huset vid den röda delen av väggen. Där och på en till plats har vi satt upp ett tjugotal fågelholkar! De är dock inte för vilken fågel som helst utan för den hotade Tornseglaren (Apus apus, EN) som redan bor i huset samt brukar hänga omkring ovanför under sommaren. Då de är renliga av sig så är de utmärkta gäster hos oss (och kanske även hemma hos dig?) Men vad gör dem unika? Svaret kan snabbt summeras med: allt. De flyger i månader i sträck utan att landa så länge inte en storm kommer eller att de ska ha barn. Så att äta, dricka, gå på toan och till och med att para sig sker på flygande vinge! Även ungarna är anpassade för detta och kan vänta i flera dagar samtidigt som de vuxna pendlar flera mil för att jaga luftplankton till dem. De överlever bland annat genom att sänka sin egen kroppstemperatur. Tyvärr är inte allt frid och fröjd, deras populationer har minskat kraftigt på grund av matbrist och stuprännor. Förr bodde de under våra takpannor men moderna tak har färre lämpliga hål och stuprör täcker för många av de lämpliga hålen som finns. PS. Deras latinska namn Apus apus betyder korta ben, deras ben är så små att de måste hoppa AB något för att lyfta. Att fastna på marken är en dödsdom för dem så ifall du hittar en på backen så är det bra om du sätter upp den någonstans eller bara kastar den rätt upp!

Eigentlich würde aktuell so langsam die Rückkehr der Mauersegler aus Afrika einsetzen und die ersten Brutpaare in ihre angestammten Brutplätze einfliegen. Bei winterlich nassem Wetter, inkl. örtlichem Schneefall, wird sich diese Rückkehr aber mit Sicherheit noch verzögern. Aber auch dieses Jahr werden viele Brutpaare wieder vor verschlossenener Tür stehen, weil ihre Brutplätze in ihrer Abwesenheit durch Bautätigkeit verschlossenen wurden. Remember that WIP from a while ago? 😅 Well it's almost time for the swifts to return! I really pushed the colours on this friend, I didn't want to paint a mostly black bird just in black paint, because they're so much more exciting than that when you see them! We get some swifts nesting really close by, so I can't wait to see them come back. Wish we could put in a swift box (or several) but alas, renting 😮‍💨 What we can do is plant as many native flowers/plants as possible (mostly window boxes and plant pots on the doorstep!) for the insects, which swifts eat in flight. An diesem Geschäftsgebäude brüten sein mehreren Jahren Mauersegler in den Rolladenkästen. Im Rahmen einesFenstertausches, werden diese Brutmöglichkeiten leider wegfallen. Es wurden daher 10 Ersatznistplätze im Bereich des Dachüberstands geschaffen. Möglich war dies durch eine Dokumentation der Nistplätze und entsprechende Meldung an den LBV. Dies ist in Bayern für alle Gebäudebrüter auf folgender Website möglich: https://botschafter-spatz.de/gebaeudebrueter-melden/ Da sich diese etwas entfernt von den ursprünglichen Nistplätzen befinden bleibt abzuwarten, wie erfolgreich die direkte Umsiedlung der ansässigen Brutpaare sein wird. Oft versuchen diese hartnäckig in ihre bekannten Nisthöhlen einzufliegen und lassen sich nur schwer auf andere Stellen am Gebäude ein. Der Mauerseglerbestand ist in dieser Gegend allerdings groß, weshalb die Hoffnung besteht, dass auch bisher nicht brütende Vögel auf die neuen Nistplätze aufmerksam werden. Auf jeden Fall wurden hier Brutmöglichkeiten erhalten, was nochmals deutlich macht, wie wichtig die Dokumentation bestehender Nistplätze ist. Wer also keine Möglichkeit hat, selbst Nistkästen anzubringen kann mindestens genauso wichtige Arbeit leisten, indem er bestehende Nistplätze dokumentiert, am besten mit Fotos oder sogar Videos. Im Fall von Baumaßnahmen können diese dann erhalten werden. Zuständig dafür ist in Deutschland die Untere Naturschutzbehörde (in der Regel angesiedelt bei Landkreis). Oft können Euch auch ansässige Naturschutzorganisationen wie NABU, LBV oder BUND helfen, wenn der Verlust von Nistplätzen droht. Birds are known to fly long distances. Some, like the drifting albatross, can cover miles on miles without beating their wings even once, achieving great distances through soaring. Others, like the hummingbird, can fly an astonishing 29 million times their body length with no breaks. But the common swift is different. A brilliant study has crowned the tiny twittering bird as one of the kings of aviation. It now holds the record for the longest continuous flight time among the avian species. Using a sophisticated new data logger identifying both the movement and the light exposure of the birds, scientists found that many of them don’t land even once during an exhausting 10-month migration. After this marathon of near-constant flapping, they settle only for a two-month breeding period. What causes the common swift to stand out from the crowd is its unusual and exhausting flight method. It engages in near-constant wing-beating instead of soaring. This raises a multitude of questions. When does the swift rest? How does it gather enough food to maintain such constant activity? Even experts don't have concrete answers to these exciting questions but some interesting observations provide a sliver of insight. For instance, it was found that the birds which did not land once in the 10-month period underwent molting - they had shed their old flight feathers and grown new ones. Whether this molting process is linked to their extended flight time is still unexplained but the team pursues a possible connection. Whatever the explanation may be and whether we discover it, one thing is enormously clear…that’s one hell of a bird.
