As a remote IT leader, do you observe that your team members hesitate to express their concerns openly? Is it affecting the remote collaboration and innovation in your projects? Here’s how - Great leaders recognize that their effectiveness is directly tied to their willingness to grow personally and build trust. A leader’s main priority should be to build a team that can collectively address the challenges and opportunities that come their way. By focusing on the development of individuals and teams, leaders alleviate pressure on themselves and also empower the team, leading to better results and a more positive workplace. Developing this mindset can be a pivotal shift for leaders. It requires a conscious effort to shift from a “doer” to an “enabler.” It involves understanding that a leader’s success is measured not by how much they accomplish personally but by how effectively their team operates and achieves goals under their guidance. Along with the mindset shift, leaders need to understand and adopt supportive behaviours- especially trusting behaviours- and this requires developing their own skills and abilities Great leaders trust their teams and practice delegation actively. This means not just assigning tasks, but also entrusting team members with the decision-making power and the authority they need to execute those tasks effectively. If you remember, Patrick Lencioni’s team development model shows us that absence of trust (the bottom layer) is the foundational dysfunction that all other dysfunctions are built on. Trust is a little word with a large meaning. When I am training and coaching, I explain the essence of trust building through breaking it down into behaviours linked to transparency, reliability and authenticity. (See visual below). While yous observation can be absolutely on point , your team might be facing challenges which you might be unaware of. So your first priority as a remote IT leader is to uncover & understand “their truth”. Here’s how - You can ask them these questions in your 1 on 1 interactions. ( By the way you should have 1 on 1 at least on a bi-weekly basis with your remote team members.) As a remote leadership expert, here are the top three coaching questions for understanding the reasons behind insincerity of team members: 1. What Challenges Are You Facing in the Remote Work Environment? 2. How Do You Feel About the Current Communication Dynamics Within the Team? 3. Can You Share Any Instances Where You Felt Unsupported or Misunderstood in Remote Interactions? Asking these questions might open you up to new realities that you might be unaware of and work towards the solution by partnering with your team. In general, I have found below tips to be helpful for my mentees who are managing remote team : 1. Nutzt Dein Team Miro - wirklich professionell und effektiv? Gestern stand der zweite Teil meines Miro Trainings 👨🏻‍🏫 für die Schweizerischen Bundesbahnen @sbbcffffs auf dem Programm. Nachdem der erste Teil vor allem für Einsteiger*innen ausgelegt war, ging es in Teil 2 in die Tiefe: - Wie baue ich Boards logisch und visuell konsistent auf? - Wie werden Workshops in Miro für alle Beteiligten zum Erfolg? - Wie kannst Du Meetings in verteilten Teams mit Miro effektiver gestalten? - Wie werden Präsentationen in Miro erstellt und interaktiv präsentiert? Das waren die Kernthemen - garniert mit einer Reihe von Tipps aus meiner täglichen Arbeit mit diesem Mega-Tool für die digitalisierte Arbeitswelt.
