The front garden is a bit neglected, waiting for the builders to finish some lime rendering. We had this path laid back in February, made from left over and reclaimed bricks and tiles , it looked a bit desolate like piles in a builders yard so we planted grass seed around it a few days ago . Our first weekend at the house ✔️ the rip out has started and skip has been half filled 🚮 living room has been stripped of old cupboards and stone tiles removed off the chimney breast. All carpets/flooring removed from every room, and between this there’s me enjoying a nice glass of fizz 🍾😀 old kitchen cupboards have been ripped out and we’ve also taken the door off from the hallway to the kitchen which we are keeping as an open doorway. And final job of the weekend was removing doors off the under stairs storage area and getting the hall stairs and landing carpet up. This space is my favourite so far it looks so much better already! A couple of very different job updates today! The log burner has been moved backwards to make it less imposing! Looks tons better in it's new position (and for having a good clean!). We now have a pipe in place ready to get water over to an outbuilding later this year - just the small matter of a 75cm deep trench to dig across the garden first!! So if you have an empty vase at home just grab some shears and chop some leafy stems from your garden or some brambles from the side of the road (We have an abundance of brambles in our garden! 🤣). Temporary fix on top of a temporary fix 🫠 When we moved in, we replaced the rotten piece of wood at the end of the bath with a random piece of wood found in the loft. we stud! 🔩🎚️ last weekend me old favva and I got to putting up the stud wall, which of course will be used to separate the bathroom and entrance hall / boot room. Although far from finished, we made good progress! Step one was adding in some extra 4x2 to the roof so we had something to join the uprights too, we also screwed into the floor nice. Next weekend if we are lucky (it's a long weekend!) we'll finish this part, which means some more mitre cuts top on bathroom side, straight cuts on both sides, and bits and bobs like that. For any of the 🦅 eyed, there is a lot more wood to go in this...so don't worry! The new bathroom is approximately 8ft square, or 2.4m x 2.4m if you prefer the metric system. When my lovely wife said maybe this seemed a bit small I reminded her our old 'family bathroom' in our old 'new build' was only about 6ft square she changed her mind! Also, our old kitchen was in this space, so size can really be quite misleading. I think the vaulted ceilings will make it seem real lovely when done. Just when I thought he would have a chill day because it was raining 🙈 Operation stair upgrade has begun! We hated the unfinished look at the bottom of the stairs so we’ve shaved some of it off. It’s opened it up so nicely 😍 A new handrail will be installed with spindles because only having that strip gives me palpitations when Fin gets too close to it upstairs! The bottom stair will be extended to curve up to the support post ready to be carpeted later this year/beginning of next. We’re also going to make more of a feature of the support posts (there’s one upstairs too) to make them look more sightly. It’s hard to explain but it will make sense eventually!

My least favourite part of living in a doer-upper is that jobs are not “done”. I love this fireplace, but the paint mysteriously peels. It’s not damp, the fire isn’t burning it, I treated it for white mold. 🤷♀️ I do not know what causes it or how to fix it. Every so often I have to strip it back, clean it down and repaint it.
