⭐️HAPPY SPECIALLY ABLED PETS DAY!!⭐️ Today is Specially Abled Pets Day. A day to celebrate our special needs pets and how truly amazing they are. My Little Girl with her 3 legs and bunny hop hobble. She might be missing a leg but she runs like the wind and there aren't many places she can't get to. She is limited in how high she can vertical jump but as long as she can jump onto the kitchen counters to steal food she's happy. And Mighty Mouse... His tiny dwarfed stature, wonky hind end, somewhat slow wit and autoimmune issues don't overshadow his large personality one bit. Special needs pets aren't a burden once you figure out what they need to be happy and healthy. They have the same capacity to love and enrich our lives as any other pet. I'd even say life is better having my two handicats in it. Sadly, many of these special souls are overlooked by potential adopters or are given to shelters or abandoned by people who cast them out for not being 'perfect'. Some shelters euthanize them because they don't have the resources or people wiling to adopt them. Different is beautiful. ⭐️WHISKER WEDNESDAY with MIGHTY MOUSE⭐️ Me: "Hey Mousies, let's play a game." Mouse: "Okays, mommy." Me: "I spy with my little eye something that is mighty." Mouse: "Ummmm.... Me! Iz da Mighty Mouse!" Me: "Yes you are sweetheart." Mouse's reign of terror continues.... When I was doing my head count before leaving for work I found Mouse on the first level of the catio and 3 cats cowering on the shelves above him, one cat crouched in the kitchen sink, one on top of the fridge and another on top of the cupboards. 😂 The ruckus started at around noon when everyone was settling down for a pre-lunch nap. Everyone but Mouse, who proceeded to jump on everyone biting ears and toes and tails trying to get a rise out of them. At one point he pounced on an unsuspecting Little Girl and she let out one of her signature blood curdling overly dramatic screams. ⭐️MIGHTY MOUSE MONDAY⭐️ Mouse had a lovely afternoon playing in the sunshine. The other cats were busy working on their tans so Mouse had to occupy himself. He found the tracker ball toy that his grandma got the gang for Christmas and was playing with it so hard the ball popped out and went flying across the dining room, but that didn't stop him from continuing to wrestle with the toy. After playtime and a visit from grandma he had a big lunch and went straight to bed. ⭐️WORST CAT MOM EVER AWARD GOES TO.....⭐️ Again, its me. 🤦♀️ Last night before leaving for work I didn't do my usual head count and didn't realize that Mouse was still in his cage....Again. 🤦♀️ Poor kid spent 8 hours in his tiny feeding cage all by himself. When I peeked in with the camera from work I didn't see him in any of his usual spots. I thought maybe he was in the catio with Leo or Sugar where the camera doesn't reach. When I got home and the gang met me at the door I still didn't realize Mouse was missing until I heard his gravely little wails. Thankfully, unlike last time, he managed to hold his bodily functions and made a beeline to the litter box as soon as I opened the cage. I felt absolutely horrible. But at bedtime Mouse came flying up onto the bed and literally threw himself at me for some pets and playtime. All was forgiven and he slept snuggled next to me all night. ⭐️HOORAY! ITS WHISKER WEDNESDAY with MIGHTY MOUSE!⭐️ Mouse has always had an incredible set of whiskers. He did lose the wild ear whiskers he had as a baby but he's still sporting some good sized ear tufts. I have been enjoying the new more engaged and animated Mouse but something is starting to seem 'off' about it. When he gets wound up he takes things too far with the other cats. What starts out as an innocent game of chase or fun with a toy turns into 6 cats, most 3 times his size, cowering on the part of the kitchen counter that Mouse can't reach. Its like once he gets going he transforms into the Tazamanian Devil and won't stop. Last night, while I was giving Finnegan scratches on the counter, Mouse came along and out of nowhere started trying to bite Finnegan's feet. I put him on the floor and he went after Sugar. Once Sugar was out of reach he went after Leo, then Little Girl, then Gemma. Finally I put him in his cage, much to is dismay, while I did some chores. I fed everyone and Mouse was fine after. He went to bed and slept through the night without incident. But this was the fourth time I witnessed him getting carried away like that. It's just odd. The rest of the time it's business as usual. ⭐️SUNDAY FUNDAY with MIGHTY MOUSE⭐️ I noticed that Mouse has been playing on his own lately. This is a huge step for him. Until now, he never really played with toys. Even if I'd try to entice him by rolling a toy on the floor or waving a wand toy, he'd just stay in his own world. Occasionally, if one of the other cats had a toy, he'd perk up and watch, but never really participated. Over the past few days I've seen him having a ball all on his own with a toy or just zooming around. He's also been quite vocal. It is with great sadness that I share that little Bubbles crossed the rainbow bridge earlier this week. Her liver issue prevented her from growing, but her attitude made up for it. She was happiest snuggling her humans and eating copious amounts of baby food. Kitties with her health issue usually only live about a year, so I'm so grateful we got to spend nearly 2 with her. Who knew such a tiny cat could leave such big holes in our hearts. He's been extra needy and cuddly the last couple of days, which is unusual for him. He's also been quite vocal which is not normal for him either, he's usually quiet as a... well... a mouse. 🐁 Poor kid has been going through lots of changes lately. His friends are gone, a lot of the kitten stuff is packed up including toys, beds, activities and puzzles, a few things have been rearranged and we're doing a diet change. Mouse has suddenly decided that the special food from the vet that he's been doing so well on is no longer to his liking. After some trial and error, he has landed on @tikipets Tiki Cat After Dark chicken and duck (the most expensive one, of course). Not the chicken and beef. Not the chicken and quail. It has to be the chicken and duck. 🤦♀️ I bought all the cans we had at work and I only have enough to make it to Wednesday night. Hopefully the case I ordered will arrive on Thursday. Of course, by then, he could change his mind. 🙄 He has also decided that t @openfarmpet turkey broth and the @primalpetfoods toppers are no longer on the menu either. ⭐️THROWBACK THURSDAY with MIGHTY MOUSE⭐️ They grow up so fast, don't they? At 3 months, Mouse couldn't even get to the first step on the scratch tower or onto the couch. He had such short little legs and an odd way of walking. He was so very tiny, still under pound. We were still trying to figure him out with his issues and growth Fast forward a little over a year.... He's still a pint sized mighty little man, but his legs did grow in proportion to his body. He can get all the way up the scratch tower and onto the couch. He can't jump onto the kitchen counters or dining room table without steps, or onto the bed either. We seem to have his skin and tummy issues under control. The rest, it's a mystery that will unfold as he gets older I suppose. He's such a little bundle of joy. ⭐️HAPPY CATURDAY with MIGHTY MOUSE⭐️ Mouse is full of beans today. Zoomies and toys are on his agenda. I have several tracker ball toys in the kitchen and he has gone crazy with every single one. It's so rare that his focus is on play like this, especially all by himself. The other cats are all snoozing hard while Mouse is tearing around, climbing, playing and chirping away to himself. I've been just watching him and trying not to do anything to distract him from his fun. This kind of activity might be normal for most, but it's not often that Mouse engages in this kind of behavior, and certainly not on his own without another cat egging him on. Usually he just kinda sits there and is own little world only becoming engaged if the other cats are riled up over something. ⭐️MONDAY FACE by MIGHTY MOUSE⭐️ Me: "Lookin' good kiddo! Who's the most handsome house Mouse?" Mouse: "Me! I'm da Mouse ob da house!" Mouse is looking so good these days. I've been following the advice from the specialist and I've made some adjustments to his diet since we ruled out the likelihood that his issues are food related. I still have to do his daily face washes and apply the TobraDex every few days but his coat has improved so much. His skin is not as flakey as it was a couple of months ago. His coat is softer, shinier and less matted. He's come long way from the hot mess he was a few months ago. I've also noticed a difference in him mentally. He seems a lot more engaged in his surroundings, he's participating in playtime with the other cats more often and he's a lot more affectionate. As far as I know, he hasn't had another seizure since November 11th. (As far as I know ... I don't know what goes on when I'm not home) I don't know how long this will last. ⭐️ONE WEEK IN with MIGHTY MOUSE⭐️ Its been one week since we saw the specialist and started the Doxycycline and special eye wipes. So far not a huge improvement, but maybe a wee bit. He sure hates the medicine though. It's quite a wrestling match just getting those 2ml into him. He weighs maybe 5 pounds but man, can he fight me. I'm just glad its medication by syringe and I don't have to stick my fingers in his mouth to give pills as I'm sure I'd lose a finger or two. After the biting incident over that piece of chicken a while back, I'm very leary of those tiny teeth. ⭐️SPECIALIST DAY for MIGHTY MOUSE⭐️ Today was the day we've been waiting for. We had our appointment with Dr.Gortel at @WestbankAnimalCareHospital. We didn't get any definitive answers but we might be on to something. The doctor agrees with Dr.Ellen that Mouse's rash is likely not food related. She doesn't think its environmental or allergies either. With his history, she's betting on something with his immune system. So, we're back to the possibility that its autoimmune or it could be an issue with his eyes (maybe tear ducts) So we're doing a round of Doxycycline for 2 weeks followed by treatment with TorbaDex, which I've been doing and had success with. I'll update them in 2 weeks then we'll have a follow up visit in a month. She also took some cultures to rule out a couple of other possibilities. If there is improvement with his teeth on the Doxycycline that's a bonus. Busy day after that, including trying to get my phone fixed. To all those who laughed at me for paying for the monthly protection plan, I might be able to get a full replacement at zero to little cost. 😝 In the meantime, @docphonefix got my old phone running again and didn't charge me a dime. On top of a few other appointments and errands, I also turned on the furnace finally. It was 9°C in the house this morning so it was time. We had quite a day yesterday which is why there was no TGIF post by Little Girl. The day was going pretty good and I was looking forward to a rare Friday night on the couch with my Misfit Crew. Sadly, my plan was foiled. After work and running errands I decided to take Mouse to @okanaganlakebosleys to say hi to everyone and try on a Halloween costume. Mouse chilled out on the counter by the till while I shopped, visited and signed him up for his Halloween photo shoot on Oct 28th. Then we went home to settle in for the evening and I realized I couldn't find my phone. I looked everywhere, called the store and did the Find My Phone which pinpointed it in an odd place so I thought, "This stupid thing doesn't work." Long story short, Google was correct in pinpointing my phone. I found it. Case is melted, camera lenses melted and I suspect my SIM card is hooped. 🤦♀️ However, I paid extra for the premium screen protector and there isn't a scratch on it. I can still get online but not receive or make and calls or texts. 🤦♀️ But Mouse looks fantastic in his costume. ⭐️LIFE WITH MIGHTY MOUSE.... ITS ALWAYS SOMETHING...⭐️ I was looking everywhere for Mouse to wash his face before work. I checked all his usual spots and then I saw a little lump in the bed on the second shelf in the catio. I didn't even know he could get up there! When the catio is not in use for fosters or Little Girl on a chewing rampage, I make it into a bunk bed for the kitties. The top shelf has a basket which is usually occupied by Her Royal Highness. The second shelf has a bed that is usually empty but occasionally Forrest Gump will nap there. The bottom shelf is empty, and then in the bottom on the floor I have the wicker pedestal bed, a few toys and a cardboard scratcher. I am proud of my mighty little man for his accomplishment, but I am terrified too. If he falls from the top or second shelf, he could get hurt. The odds of that happening are pretty high, and he never lands on his feet. Even when he hops off the bed, he lands with a wobble. Sometimes he stays uprights, often he doesn't. ⭐️MONDAY FACE by MIGHTY MOUSE⭐️ Mouse: "But mommmmmmy....." Me: "No little man, no treats for you. You worried me to death most of the weekend. I want to be sure you're okay before you get any treats." Well, we did not enjoy the last weekend of the summer. Mighty Little Man had me so worried. The vet was out of his special food so after a chat with Dr.Ellen I was able to find something appropriate for him at work on Thursday. I also thought I'd try some insect based dry (only a tablespoon at a time) He absolutely loved it! He devoured it for the first couple of meals. Then, he started eating less and leaving lots on his plate, which isn't unusual for him but he was leaving more and more each time. By Saturday afternoon he wasn't eating at all. Sunday morning made 3 plates of different foods and he didn't touch any if it. In case I had to end up force feeding him or giving him medications, I took him to @okanaganlakebosleys to get his nails trimmed by the amazing Shelby. I didn't want to have to fight with pointy claws. Needless to say, I didn't sleep much last night and held my Mousies all night, not letting him out of my sight. He slept like a rock and I had to rouse him a couple of times to assure myself he was still with me. This morning, I just had to try so I fixed him a plate with a dollop of the 3 different foods I had open for him topped with a sprinkle of Acana kitten dry food. He devoured it all! After work, I did the same with his lunch and he ate it all but one dollop, I should have made note of which food it was before Little Girl inhaled it. So hopefully he's okay and it was just a blip due to the food change. We'll see how the next couple of meals go. I worry about my Mouse so much.
