It’s Over. But We are just Beginning. 🐴🤠🐴 As 2023 comes to a close I wanted to reflect on how Allie and Edge have shown up for me. 🐴🤠🐴 I struggled at the beginning of the year with my happiness and what I truly wanted to pursue horse goal wise. In my ❤️ I had always wanted to try barrel racing. So I told Edge let’s give it a go. He went along with it so it was easy. I just had a small goal to complete the summer Jackpot series at K/C Ranch. Edge and I completed the mission and I became hooked. Our biggest highlight was carrying the 🇺🇸 at the Jessamine County Fair Chasin Cash Barrel Race and then competing under the lights. Then I slowly introduced Allie late summer to the barrels. She is a completely different runner compared to Edge. I just need to manage her catty fire. I plan to sharpen my barrel skills and even add pole bending in 2024. I will always have my passion for roping and cattle work. Palomino Princess. 🐴🤠🐴 As I was selecting a song for my photo I came across this one by Austin City’s own, Tyler Booth. I had wanted a cowgirl song and Palomino Princess is just another name for cowgirl so listened to it and it was a perfect fit. 🐴🤠🐴 10.14.2023 was the first time I ran both Allie and Edge at the same Barrel race. It was the UK Rodeo Team Benefit Barrel Bash. 🐴🤠🐴 It was quite the feat to go from warm ups with Allie then tack off and switch to Edge. I truly felt like She-Ra!!! 💪🏼 🐴🤠🐴 I spent most of my time in the saddle after warm ups with Allie as I’d never warmed her up in the outdoor pen at night and never ran barrels on her at night. 🐴🤠🐴 It had been 4 weeks since Allie’s 1st ever barrel race so I was excited to see how much she had improved. 🐴🤠🐴 I was pleased with her warm up run and even more impressed with her Open run. Allie laid down a 18.954 for her 1st time running at K/C Ranch and her 2nd ever barrel race! 🐴🤠🐴 The funny part was on the homestretch I watched a button sky rocket 🚀 off the front of my Jean jacket. 🐴🤠🐴 I moved Edge way down to run because after Allie ran I had to switch out tack and then prep Edge for his run. 🐴🤠🐴 Edge and I had a few mishaps this outing first starting in the warmups. We almost went down at the 3rd barrel turn but luckily I gave him his head and off he went. Me no reins at first but soon after I gained them lol. Thank goodness he knows what to do! 🐴🤠🐴 What I liked about our Open run was how Edge came in and took the 1st barrel. But then he got too wide costing us time to the 2nd barrel. He ended up 19.067. American Dreams. 🇺🇸 First I want to say Thank You Edge. 🇺🇸 I mean He really did try and at times I feel He really does like this barrel racing. 🇺🇸 I am very proud we competed in our very first K/C Jackpot Buckle Series and done 4 of the 5 necessary to be considered for a buckle. 🇺🇸 This was the last one and boy was it a hot 🥵 one. As you can see my hair is in braids this round. 🇺🇸 Edge ran one of his best warmups and I was excited for his Open run. 🇺🇸 My new strategy was to talk to myself on my maneuvers. I mean everything goes so fast; it’s split seconds so a plan I thought. 🇺🇸 One thing that has really improved in just 4 competitions is Edge’s entry speed. The first barrel went well but I did not create enough of a pocket for the second barrel leading to a slowdown. This cost us but we kept going and Edge turned it up at the third barrel. He loves this part and actually it’s my favorite part too as he’s super charged🚀 🇺🇸 Not the time I was hoping for but we got a 18.853. This is where I remind myself we are just beginning and not everything will go smoothly. 🇺🇸 A guy I used to date told me 2 things and I never forgot them. 1.) Nothing in this world is for free 2.) Nothing good happens after midnight. Now let’s go back to #1. 🇺🇸 You must work to have things just like you must work to get better at things. Everything comes with it’s price. Happy. 🤠 This was Edge’s First Fair. 🤠 And his First Time shown off the trailer. 🤠 Edge had never carried a flag 🇺🇸 until tonight. 🤠 And I had never run Edge at night under the lights. 🤠 A lot of Firsts tonight but Edge handled everything like a pro. 🤠 They said the rides would crank up at 6pm and I thought well this will go good or bad. 🤠 Edge loved everything about it and I was all smiles. 🤠 The most exciting moment to me was carrying the flag 🇺🇸 I was extremely honored to be given this role by Kelly Curry. First of all I want to say Thank you Edge. He has been the universal solider throughout my mission. I ❤️ this horse for trying and helping me with my goals. Edge did not like the blue bobblepoles in warm ups so I ran him through twice. He had never seen them and when the real run came I felt he looked for them taking the first barrel. Our first turn slowed us up costing us so we must work on this. This past weekend (April 29 - May 1) we attended the Inaugural RHAKY show at Lakeside Arena in Frankfort … It was Allie’s first ever show and the start of Edge’s show season …I honestly did not take many photos but I wanted this one to remind me how far we have come … . Edge a 360 but still needs tuning and sharpening … It will come because I’ll work for it … Allie well we are just taking off … Good horses aren’t fast made but slow roasted … I’m willing to be patient with this process … I see something in her … . All in all my first experience with both horses was nothing shy of hard work … If I had it to do over I’d arrive on Thursday as Friday arrival rushed me … and I’d stay there versus traveling back and forth … Falling asleep at the wheel was always my biggest fear … My energy lacked a bit but I persevered … . Edge placed and showed improvement in NA Ranch Trail … honestly I was just thankful he loaded on the trailer as in the past he tanked the class with refusing to load … and I was happy with his NA Ranchmanship class … Edge also placed in Amateur Conformation and Amateur Showmanship … the cow classes waned and teamwork lacked on the other classes … but I now know what we must hammer on … . My goal with Allie was exposure … I wanted her to see it and absorb it … I only showed her in two classes All Age Conformation and NA Showmanship … although the judges chose not to tie her in halter she got ring time … As for showmanship she placed without a blow up so that was all I could ask for … . 13 weeks and 5 days later #TeamDoubleE 🐴⭐️ is back to horse showing ... Long days/nights but I enjoyed it and showed Edge in everything I set out to do ... We earned 8th out of 22 in NA Ranchmanship performing a New pattern ... 5th/9th in NA Horsemanship ... 10th of 18 in NA Ranch Reining ... This was my debut performance ... I calmed down on the end but I must work on my nerves as Edge picks up on this ... and a 2nd/6th out of 7 in NA Showmanship ... Right leads, nerves, being too collected, sticky cows and coming in hot cost me on a few classes ... I’ll continue to work on my issues and better my game ... Side note: I loved Roping and I will continue to do this ... “Roping for Roger” was on my rope hand and I will continue to have it on my hand for that class ...
