Edge and I earned our “1st barrel check” last night at Hodge Arena at the University of Kentucky Rodeo Team’s Flingin’ Cash Spring Jackpot Barrel Race. 🤠 We were 3rd in the 4D - Masters with a 20.919. It was nice to hear our names called. A start I say. Edge gave me 2 smooth runs last night. 🤠 Allie had a great expo run. In Masters we knocked the 2nd barrel costing us. She gets so amped up to go in. A very different ride compared to Edge. Her Open run was better. It will come for us but good horses are not over night. 🤠 I’m proud of my two. It’s Over. But We are just Beginning. 🐴🤠🐴 As 2023 comes to a close I wanted to reflect on how Allie and Edge have shown up for me. 🐴🤠🐴 I struggled at the beginning of the year with my happiness and what I truly wanted to pursue horse goal wise. In my ❤️ I had always wanted to try barrel racing. So I told Edge let’s give it a go. He went along with it so it was easy. I just had a small goal to complete the summer Jackpot series at K/C Ranch. Edge and I completed the mission and I became hooked. Our biggest highlight was carrying the 🇺🇸 at the Jessamine County Fair Chasin Cash Barrel Race and then competing under the lights. Then I slowly introduced Allie late summer to the barrels. She is a completely different runner compared to Edge. I just need to manage her catty fire. I plan to sharpen my barrel skills and even add pole bending in 2024. I will always have my passion for roping and cattle work. American Dreams. 🇺🇸 First I want to say Thank You Edge. 🇺🇸 I mean He really did try and at times I feel He really does like this barrel racing. 🇺🇸 I am very proud we competed in our very first K/C Jackpot Buckle Series and done 4 of the 5 necessary to be considered for a buckle. 🇺🇸 This was the last one and boy was it a hot 🥵 one. As you can see my hair is in braids this round. 🇺🇸 Edge ran one of his best warmups and I was excited for his Open run. 🇺🇸 My new strategy was to talk to myself on my maneuvers. I mean everything goes so fast; it’s split seconds so a plan I thought. 🇺🇸 One thing that has really improved in just 4 competitions is Edge’s entry speed. The first barrel went well but I did not create enough of a pocket for the second barrel leading to a slowdown. This cost us but we kept going and Edge turned it up at the third barrel. He loves this part and actually it’s my favorite part too as he’s super charged🚀 🇺🇸 Not the time I was hoping for but we got a 18.853. This is where I remind myself we are just beginning and not everything will go smoothly. 🇺🇸 A guy I used to date told me 2 things and I never forgot them. 1.) Nothing in this world is for free 2.) Nothing good happens after midnight. Now let’s go back to #1. 🇺🇸 You must work to have things just like you must work to get better at things. Everything comes with it’s price. First of all I want to say Thank you Edge. He has been the universal solider throughout my mission. I ❤️ this horse for trying and helping me with my goals. This past weekend (April 29 - May 1) we attended the Inaugural RHAKY show at Lakeside Arena in Frankfort … It was Allie’s first ever show and the start of Edge’s show season …I honestly did not take many photos but I wanted this one to remind me how far we have come … . Edge a 360 but still needs tuning and sharpening … It will come because I’ll work for it … Allie well we are just taking off … Good horses aren’t fast made but slow roasted … I’m willing to be patient with this process … I see something in her … . All in all my first experience with both horses was nothing shy of hard work … If I had it to do over I’d arrive on Thursday as Friday arrival rushed me … and I’d stay there versus traveling back and forth … Falling asleep at the wheel was always my biggest fear … My energy lacked a bit but I persevered … . Edge placed and showed improvement in NA Ranch Trail … honestly I was just thankful he loaded on the trailer as in the past he tanked the class with refusing to load … and I was happy with his NA Ranchmanship class … Edge also placed in Amateur Conformation and Amateur Showmanship … the cow classes waned and teamwork lacked on the other classes … but I now know what we must hammer on … . My goal with Allie was exposure … I wanted her to see it and absorb it … I only showed her in two classes All Age Conformation and NA Showmanship … although the judges chose not to tie her in halter she got ring time … As for showmanship she placed without a blow up so that was all I could ask for … . A few things to add … Edge had not been around a cow since the ORHA show last October … I was concerned on how it would go with Ranch Boxing 🐂 and Ranch Cutting 🐂 but Edge amazed me and wanted to work the cow … I took him in Amateur Ranch Boxing 🐂 as a test and got a real mover but it helped us be more primed and ready for the Novice class … Thank you Jamie Feuquay for your words of advice before I went in … I must say my smile returned as 50 seconds on the cow as #TeamDoubleE was magical✨P.S. The first ride of May and it’s Derby Day 🌹🐎🎉 ... 5-1-2021 ... . . . It had been a small goal of mine to get Edge away from his normal routine and do something different ... too much of the same lately ... and I wanted to show Edge another side to being in the saddle ... Trail riding ... . . . Vanessa Torian and her horse, Vegas, joined us on our first ever attempt at trail riding ... I could tell Edge was eager to do something new instead of the norm but it took awhile for him to get mellow and enjoy the fact I was not asking too much of him ... just to go forward and behave, lol ... I was thankful Vanessa and Vegas were there as they were seasoned trail riders and Edge needed that ... it was great to visit parts of the farm that normally I don’t have the extra time during the week to see ... . . . The first photo is from NA Ranchmanship performing Pattern #1 ⭐️ This pattern was the first pattern I ever performed on Edge when we first started our show journey ⭐️ We have come along way since then ⭐️ I was proud of our 10th under both judges in a field of 24 ⭐️ Missing the right lead but correcting cost us but all in all one of our better performances to date ⭐️ Mom (far left) even made this pic ⭐️ The 2nd photo is from NA Ranch Reining ⭐️ This was only our 2nd time ever doing this class ⭐️ I still need to work on my nerves as it’s a very eyes on you performance ⭐️ It was not our best spin demonstration as we get them at practice sessions way better as well as a few lead issues ⭐️ Again Edge reads my nerves but we stayed on course and managed 10th under both judges out of 17 ⭐️ A class I definitely want to get better in so we will keep at it ⭐️ and the 3rd pic is from NA Ranch Boxing ⭐️ I love this class but lately it has not went as planned ⭐️ We practice well beforehand but lately we don’t get the job done during the class under pressure ⭐️ My cow started off dull then livened up ⭐️ No placing but a learning ⭐️Edge and I are back to the drawing board to get back to where we need to be ⭐️ . . . . . ⭐️ Thank you to my Mom, Jed and Sarah Lawrence for your support and continued guidance ⭐️ . . . . . 13 weeks and 5 days later #TeamDoubleE 🐴⭐️ is back to horse showing ... Long days/nights but I enjoyed it and showed Edge in everything I set out to do ... We earned 8th out of 22 in NA Ranchmanship performing a New pattern ... 5th/9th in NA Horsemanship ... 10th of 18 in NA Ranch Reining ... This was my debut performance ... I calmed down on the end but I must work on my nerves as Edge picks up on this ... and a 2nd/6th out of 7 in NA Showmanship ... Right leads, nerves, being too collected, sticky cows and coming in hot cost me on a few classes ... I’ll continue to work on my issues and better my game ... Side note: I loved Roping and I will continue to do this ... “Roping for Roger” was on my rope hand and I will continue to have it on my hand for that class ... First 🐴 Show of 2020 ... A much smaller ARHA show than normal but sometimes it is good just to see where you are at ... but Memphis will always be Special to #TeamDoubleE 🐴⭐️... It’s where Edge and I earned our very First 1st place🥇 and our very First ARHA Novice Amateur High Point🏆 ... plus with a combined effort of Jed Lawrence and myself with Edge, the Reserve ARHA High Point in the Open🏆 ... Jed put it best when he said it was a definite confidence booster ... to me it showed me where my strengths and weaknesses were starting the 2020 show year ... however, I must add that my most exciting moment was NA Boxing when we held the cow🐂 back winning the class ...
