It's a wrap in Phalombe! Our project "Adolescent Mothers Living with HIV for Improved Health," implemented for 3 years from 2021-2024, and funded by ViivHealth has come to a close. Through this initiative, we empowered adolescent mothers living with HIV to get the help and support they need, enhanced access to quality HIV and SRHR services, created safe spaces for the youth with the establishment of HIV Support Groups and Hubs linked with HealthCare workers that assisted in the increased uptake of family planning methods, economically empowered young people to stand on their own by creating their own small-scale businesses, and distributed 24 pigs to be reared in groups of 5 for their benefit. Together with local leaders, we tackled harmful norms and practices, improving the physical and mental well-being of young people. Despite challenges like stockouts in the health facilities and poor roads due to the Cyclone Freddy floods, we linked over 150 youth to HIV testing services. It is also comforting to know that the local leaders, families and the youth impacted will remain committed to continue the hard work of fostering change and raising awareness on the prevalent issues happening in our local communities. ROTER FADEN: Welch wunderbaren Worte - so erinnern sie mich an eine Situation in meinem Leben, die ich einst beim Arbeitsamt erleben durfte. Die zuständige Sachbearbeiterin beklagte meinen Lebenslauf, welcher keinen roten gradlinigen Faden aufwies, anstatt die unterschiedlichst gesammelten Erfahrungen als Ressourcen wahrzunehmen. Entgegen ihrer Befürchtungen nahm ich das mit der Vermittlung schlussendlich selbst in die Hand. Ich bezweifle, dass sich seit 2017 etwas geändert hat bei der Bewertung des Amtes in punkto roten und buntem Faden des Lebens. Was die Dame wohl sagen würde, wenn sie wüsste, dass ich mit „einfach!ch schwul.bipolar.positiv.“ ein Buch über meinen bunten Faden des Lebens geschrieben habe. I don’t often just walk through Golden Gate Park. But Sunday I hiked to the beach from the panhandle with some @glamcocks, and the amazing @therealpupio took this photo of me in The AIDS Memorial Grove. I’m so grateful for the place I live and the community I have around me. Moments like this of being a colorful, flaming freak give me such great joy. We are so lucky to have queer leaders come before us to blaze trails so that we may be ourselves in public. I honor the people who foraged ahead through unbearable oppression so that I could prance through the city in tie-dyed tights that I made. And though I know my minor efforts to support AIDS/HIV education/testing/research are just a drop compared to the sea of struggle that came before me, it’s how I try to give back to the community that I hold so dear. I wish more of those heroic individuals of the previous generation were around for me to meet. The reason I post these thirst traps is to get attention. POST IN DIE SCHWEIZ: Und da stand ich nun mit meinem Brief in der Filiale der Post und hatte mal wieder etwas dazu gelernt. Erstens: Mein Buch ist dicker als 2cm und kann somit nicht als Brief verschickt werden. Zweitens: Mein Buch wiegt 790 Gramm und damit mehr als 500 Gramm - welches die Höchstgrenze für Briefe ist. Was folgte: Getreu dem Motto „Wo ein Wille, da ist auch ein Weg.“ ging ich nach Hause und packte um. Mit meinen Päckchen ging es erneut an den Posttresen. Drittens: Zollschein - ja die Schweiz gehört nicht zur EU und es muss ein Zollschein ausgefüllt werden. Viertens: Das Porto unterscheidet sich dann doch erheblich von nationalen Sendungen - 16.99€ - typisch Schweiz 🇨🇭. Nun hoffe ich, dass alles gut beim lieben Autorenkollegen @simonfroehling ankommt. It's important to find a healthcare provider you feel comfortable with and is knowledgeable about your individual needs. Don't be afraid to ask a potential provider if s/he has experience working with patients living with HIV and how many of those patients s/he works with currently. If your primary care provider doesn't specialize in HIV care, ask if s/he will work closely with your HIV care provider to provide you with a healthcare plan that works for you. Find out what type of rapport you have with your provider. Do you feel comfortable talking to him/her? Does s/he listen to your concerns? Does s/he answer your questions? All of these things are important to providing you with proper healthcare. Last week, I attended NYNETHA’s 5day strategic planning development meeting, theme; Aligning Youth efforts on SRHR and HIV Response. One of the objectives of Strategic Planning is to drive an effective response to help with the survival of humanity and to teach PLWH to avoid living their lives for the virus. Through this process we discussed various approach to combat HIV/AIDs and other intersectional public health issues while prioritizing Adolescents and Young People in all diversity. HIV Prevention is a longitudinal cohort (life cycle) issue, but often addressed as as a cross-sectional issue and this leads to a quick-wins mentality approach and a fast response to the normalcy or expectedness of the society. WELTTAG DES BUCHES: Schon Erich Kästner wusste: „Wer Bücher schenkt, schenkt Wertpapiere.“ Besonders wertvoll sind Bücher, die Menschen helfen, aus ihrer Lebenskrise einen Weg zurück in eine neue Normalität zu finden. Weil mir dieses Thema ganz besonders am Herzen liegt möchte ich an diesem Tag das Augenmerk auf Bücher legen, die sich mit der Bipolaren Störung beschäftigen. First of all ist da „Lieber Matz, dein Papa hat ‘ne Meise“ von @sebastian.schloesser zu nennen, welches damals auf der „Geschlossenen“ zu meinem „Gamechanger“ wurde. „Die Welt im Rücken“ von Thomas Melle gehört zu den gefeierten Büchern der Bipolaren Welt und wurde bereits als Theaterstück inszeniert. Ich muss es endlich mal weiter lesen. Ganz neu auf dem Markt ist das Buch „Bipolar-Man“ von @bipolar.man_autor auch hier gestehe ich - das lesen liegt noch vor mir. Welches Buch ich die letzten Wochen sehr intensiv gelesen habe ist „Wenn Licht die Dunkelheit besiegt“ von @norahille_autorin. Bei der Lektüre ist mir deutlich geworden, dass bipolare Lebenswege sich total von einander unterscheiden - während ich als Single genügend Zeit für #metime und mentale Stabilität habe, muss bei Nora die Familie unter einen Hut mit der #metime gebracht werden. Ich durfte sie letztes Jahr auf der Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Bipolare Störung kennenlernen - eine starke Persönlichkeit. Was mir an ihrem Buch besonders gefällt, sind die Kästen mit dem Arztblickwinkel. Last but not least gibt es da dann noch mein Buch: „einfach!ch schwul.bipolar.positiv.“ - es soll Mut machen, Zuversicht spenden und Stigmata abbauen. Seien sie sich selbst ein Leben ohne Stigmata wert. Ich wünsche es ihnen. When taken correctly, it reduces the risk of getting HIV to almost zero! There are now three ways of taking PrEP. LEBENSGEHEIMNISSE: Schon Voltaire sagte: „Da es förderlich für die Gesundheit ist, habe ich beschlossen, glücklich zu sein.“ Doch beschließen allein reicht manchmal nicht - wer LEBENSGEHEIMNISSE mit sich herumträgt birgt eine enorme Gefahr, Schaden an seiner Seele zu nehmen. Eine große Umfrage aus dem Jahr 2022 offenbart, dass 75 PROZENT! ihren positiven HIV Status geheim halten. In dieser Zahl erkennt man die gesellschaftliche Stigmatisierung, die auf diesem Thema lastet. Selbst das „Schwule Leben“ jenseits von Berlin, Hamburg und Köln ist bei weitem nicht so easygoing, wie man es sich 2024 wünschen würde. In meinem Buch lade ich ein, mit mir auf eine Reise der Entstigmatisierung zu gehen. Meet Max! 👋 Α 31-year old Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Oxford Brookes University who has published research on the decriminalisation and destigmatisation of HIV in the context of U=U. Strengthening HIV/AIDS Services in Mara Region: A Joint Visit and Collaboration ----------------- 📸 @amreftanzania hosted Dr. Lucy Fidelis, Regional Lead for Mara at @cdctanzania, and was joined by the Mara Council Health Management Teams (CHMTs) from Musoma MC, Serengeti DC, and Bunda TC, along with @amreftanzania #AfyaThabiti project team, for a joint visit to Kwanga Health Centre, Natta Health Centre, Manyamama Hospital, and Bunda Designated District Hospital in the Mara region.
