My last Utila feature is the amazing Mango Tango, one of the best places to eat on the island. They have a great setting on the waterfront, serve yummy cocktails and are always busy. I highly recommend the Sunday brunch (Eggs Benedict and Bloody Marys... yummy!) and Tapas Tuesday is always popular but to be honest any night is good there as the main menu is excellent as well. Honduras isn’t renowned for its cuisine but the humble baleada is one exception. It’s basically a large tortilla that’s spread with refried beans and can then be filled with all sorts of things.... eggs, avocado, chicken, meat. The best spot for them on Utila is Seven Seas, a tiny little restaurant on the main street that doesn’t look like much but the super pollo (chicken) baleada is delicious... crunchy fried chicken with lots of other yummy fillings for the bargain price of 60lps (approx $2). Another fun way to spend an afternoon on Utila is at Neptunes, the beach bar/restaurant at Coral Beach Village. Take a tuk-tuk to the Neptunes dock and catch the free boat that leaves on the hour every hour. After a short boat ride through the mangroves you’ll arrive at the resort and find yourself on a beautiful white sandy beach with a jetty that gives you access to some great snorkelling (right at the end of the jetty are two buoys that the local dive shops use for beginners diving) and eagle rays are frequently spotted around here. A great day trip from Utila is a boat ride to Water Cay... one of a group of tiny islands, some have private houses but this one has no inhabitants. You can hang a hammock, snorkel to your hearts content (we spotted multiple eagle rays), take your own beers/food and spend a day chilling out in paradise! One of the best dinner spots in Utila is RJs Bar & Grill... open on Wednesday, Friday & Sunday nights from 5.30pm they serve yummy BBQ food and on Sunday’s they also do a roast pork option.
